6005122 tn?1393527486 I went to the OB/GYN today at 16 weeks pregnant and asked for a valtrex refill. The dr informed me when you are pregnant you only take Valtrex from 36 weeks onward to prevent an OB at delivery. I have taken Valtrex a few times on different occasions in the past 16 weeks. Do you think I could have caused any harm to the baby? Also, what do I do if I happen to get an outbreak in the time leading up to 36 weeks?
Avatar f tn t usually get obs, maybe once or twice a year. Im currently 34 weeks pregnant and I am worried about passing this onto my baby during delivery. I know that since I've had it for serveral years that my chances of passing it are low since i pass antibodies to my baby, but I still want to take suppressive medicine.
Avatar f tn t want to give it to my husband if it could be helped I had redness then after starting the valtrex down there.... got pregnant in oct, stopped valtrex and restarted at 22 weeks on suppressive therapy at 500mg daily due to slight redness on and off. day after I started it symptoms worsened...never any open lesions all down there nothing like the old pubic bone spot, just redness and some mild discomfort.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Valtrex regularly for 2 months and I have been taking 1 gram of Valtrex steadily for 2 weeks, and it is not going away. Valtrex has always worked quickly when I have had outbreaks in the past. The symptoms of this lesion (itchiness or soreness) come and go. What could be causing this? Could it be something other than herpes? Could the Valtrex be harmful to my baby? I go to the doctor again, soon, but want to be armed with all the inform. I can.
Avatar f tn Yes, was tested for everything cultures and bloodwork at initial presentation and all negatives. An external culture a week after showed heavy enterococcus bacteria for which I was given levaquin but told it wasn't the cause of the issue. Another internal bacterial culture was done with a repeat pap at 6 weeks, negative. At 8 and 12 weeks blood tests for hep c hiv rpr and herpes all negatives. At 17 wks herpes igg only redone and negative.
Avatar f tn OK. So its been nearly 2 months since I've been diagnosed with this inconvenience. Since I never had a "noticeable outbreak", every little itch or tingling that I get spooks me (The reason why I say that is because the time I had sex with my ex, I did have some tingling and 5 days later he had small blisters on his penis, so I know he contracted it from me).
1628163 tn?1299535389 She put me on valtrex it seems like the valtrex shortened the outbreaks but i have tingling every day and i dont know why. and I still have outbreaks, so why is this?
Avatar f tn I've been dealing with HSV 2 for a year and half now with outbreaks happening much less as time goes on , but still too often, averaging an outbreak every two months. Sometimes it is mild other times it is more severe. When I stay on Valtrex I don't get any outbreaks, but the downside is that Valtrex elevates my ALT readings for my liver. All of my other liver test readings are within range. My liver test that was done one year ago was perfect.
Avatar n tn I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
Avatar n tn What is the possibility of being immune to Valtrex? Is there a possibility that after taking Valtrex daily that in a couple years it may no longer be effective?
127596 tn?1210922622 Instead I found an empty bottle of Valtrex, prescribed to her. Needless to say, there was no way in hell I was going to use any toothbrush in there. Rather than blowing up about it, I came home and did some research. But I was sad to find that Valtrex is only prescribed for Simplex I, Simplex II and Zosters. So I asked her about it (via instant message - is that bad?). She said she gets cold sores sometimes, and the Valtrex gets rid of them quickly.

Avatar f tn Anyone have success with valtrex alleviating symptoms ?My Dr. prescribed it for 1 week. I also take desipramine (TCA) and have not had any relief from that yet either. It has been 2 weeks. How long can this crazy virus last? Does it subside or run it's course within 6 months? I thought I read this somewhere. Sorry for the multiple questions- this is just so frustrating... I want relief. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!!!
Avatar m tn I have been on valtrex for the past 4 months (1 a day) if the symptoms I am having have not gone away for a period of 2 years ( symptoms are there for a week then subside for 2 - 3 days then come back ) this has been like clockwork for the past 2 years.
Avatar f tn I have used the cream for 2 years off and on, until recently due to becoming pregnant. Is itching a side effect of the valtrex? Now I am pregnant and my OB thought I had yeast infection and prescribed metronidazole vaginal gel .75% for 5 days. (no testing to confirm what type of infection-just visual examination) I got better then got worse with itching, pain and she prescribed monostat....but then I examined myself closer and realized it was my first re-outbreak of the HSV2.
Avatar m tn Since you asked for comments, I think you need to relax. Since she takes valtrex, if you were with her in a long term, monogamous relationship, as long as you avoided sex during an outbreak, there'd be about a 2% chance you would get it over the course of a year. That's a 98% chance you wouldn't get it. You have about the same chance (or worse) of getting a female partner pregnant when she's on the pill.
Avatar f tn I know the best thing about having any std is information, i have had it for over 5 yrs now and was on repression valtrex ( i think is what its considered ) when I was first diagnosed and haven't have any serious outbreaks in over 3years. Now that i'm certain i'm pregnant I know there is a possibility and it is safer for the baby to be delivered c-section.
Avatar n tn When I was 4 weeks pregnant (In Fact, it was the day after I found out I was pregnant!), I suffered my first primary hsv 2 outbreak: fever, malaise, a couple blisters, etc. I was on valtrex for about a month after that. My doctor said the risk was low for my baby contracting herpes. I went off the valtrex after a month. Then I had another outbreak six weeks later on my hand (just an outbreak, no systemic symptoms as I had before).
Avatar f tn I had a cold sore pop up when I was around 8 or 9 weeks pregnant. I was hesitant to take my Valtrex pill bc was not sure if it was safe but later found out it would have been okay. I used abreava several times a day and it was gone in about 5 days. Cold sores are the worst!
Avatar m tn I now think I am pregnant again. I know Valtrex is a class B drug during pregnancy, BUT of course no drug is proven to be 100% safe. I will talk to my OB, but I was wanting the opinion of others on this board - if I stop taking the 1 gram daily dose, is it possible my body will have developed a dependence on the Valtrex and outbreaks will run amuck again?
233552 tn?1228319699 The ER doctor just looked at it and said it was shingles. He also had another doctor come in and she said the same thing. It's on my right arm and goes up my should to my back. It's kinda in a line. They said I could take Valtrex (my fav med) but since I'm now PREGNANT I have stopped taking all meds. There has been no studies with pregnant women so I don't want to take anything. It took us tooooo long to get pregnant for me to mess it up in anyway.
Avatar f tn Hi I was diagnosed with HSV2 in 2009. I took Valtrex 500 mg per day for about a year with no outbreaks. Then I started experiencing the tingling in my legs. It moved to my arms and scalp. My doctor told me if I wasn't having any outbreaks that I should stop taking it. So I stopped taking it in July. I had an outbreak two weeks later and decided not to use Valtrex. I used lysine and it went away in 7 days. Another two weeks and another outbreak.
Avatar f tn How good does valtrex work in suppressing HSV 1 I started taking 1000 mg a day?
Avatar f tn So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?
