valtrex

803834 tn?1286565337 Just wondering if anyone out there has taken Valtrex daily while pregnant??? My Dr. told me at my 1st visit that it was ok to take...also mentioned some women chose to just take during outbreaks instead of daily while pregnant, but it was up to me....just wondering!!!!!!?????
Avatar n tn would just put me on Valtrex. I read the Valtrex website and the drug has not had full testing on pregnant women. This does not make me feel comfortable. Should I ask the Dr. to retest? Should my husband get tested? If the 2nd test comes up high, should I request a C-section to prevent any transfer of the virus to the baby since I don't feel comfortable taking any type of non tested drug during my pregnancy?
Avatar f tn Yes, was tested for everything cultures and bloodwork at initial presentation and all negatives. An external culture a week after showed heavy enterococcus bacteria for which I was given levaquin but told it wasn't the cause of the issue. Another internal bacterial culture was done with a repeat pap at 6 weeks, negative. At 8 and 12 weeks blood tests for hep c hiv rpr and herpes all negatives. At 17 wks herpes igg only redone and negative.
233552 tn?1228319699 The ER doctor just looked at it and said it was shingles. He also had another doctor come in and she said the same thing. It's on my right arm and goes up my should to my back. It's kinda in a line. They said I could take Valtrex (my fav med) but since I'm now PREGNANT I have stopped taking all meds. There has been no studies with pregnant women so I don't want to take anything. It took us tooooo long to get pregnant for me to mess it up in anyway.
6005122 tn?1393527486 The dr informed me when you are pregnant you only take Valtrex from 36 weeks onward to prevent an OB at delivery. I have taken Valtrex a few times on different occasions in the past 16 weeks. Do you think I could have caused any harm to the baby? Also, what do I do if I happen to get an outbreak in the time leading up to 36 weeks?
Avatar f tn t usually get obs, maybe once or twice a year. Im currently 34 weeks pregnant and I am worried about passing this onto my baby during delivery. I know that since I've had it for serveral years that my chances of passing it are low since i pass antibodies to my baby, but I still want to take suppressive medicine.
6709254 tn?1389303349 Can I take my meds regularly if I have an outbreak. Before I found out I was pregnant I was taking a 500mg of valtrex and then 1000 for outbreaks and I've only had one outbreak in the since I found out 3 yrs ago. Should I continue taking it or no?
Avatar f tn I'm sorry to hear that. I'm guessing some of the women you've been with have been on the birth control pill. There is about the same chance that you'd get herpes from her as the chance that you'd get a woman pregnant if she's on the pill. If she takes it like most women do - not at the same time every day, etc., then you have a higher chance getting her pregnant on the pill than getting herpes.
Avatar f tn I was tested the year prior and came back negative for both. Additionally, I have not had any symptoms. I immediately began taking Valtrex to avoid infecting my fiance (but I had been with a number of women since my last negative test). Last week (14-Jun-11) I went to my new dr for annual testing and requested HSV retesting. My results came back negative for both (HSV1: 0.12; HSV2: 0.06). My question is: Do I have HSV1 or 2? What happened? What should I do?
Avatar f tn t want to give it to my husband if it could be helped I had redness then after starting the valtrex down there.... got pregnant in oct, stopped valtrex and restarted at 22 weeks on suppressive therapy at 500mg daily due to slight redness on and off. day after I started it symptoms worsened...never any open lesions all down there nothing like the old pubic bone spot, just redness and some mild discomfort.
Avatar f tn When you go to medical school you learn that and that you shouldnt treat pregnant women any difrent then non. Yea things are more dificult but we asked for it. We need to do things ourself we should be able to do anything we could before. Speacil treatment is unneeded. If you cant stand in line that is your problem and not everyone elses you need to figure out ways around it.
1472764 tn?1287588186 Also, I do not believe Valtrex is safe during pregnancy in case you take it. Lots of women with HSV2 go on to have healthy pregnancies but if you have any type of oubreak, precautions need to be taken during delivery.
Avatar n tn I have had HSV-2 for 30 years, and outbreaks have been limited to about every 16-18 months for the last 15 or so years I've been on daily Valtrex. However, I am now having what I think is the 3rd outbreak in 7 months. It is very severe, healing slowly and presenting in a different location that it has for years. It appears many women are reporting a similar increase in outbreaks--or even having back to back outbreaks-- as they near menopause or perimenopause.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am currently 22 weeks pregnant with my first child and I acquired genital HSV-1 from oral sex 8 years ago. I only had a primary outbreak 8 years ago, and never had another outbreak. I have had only 2 sex partners in my life. My boyfriend in college who had HSV-1 (cold sore on his mouth) and transmitted it to me, and my husband. I am healthy and have no health issues at all.
Avatar n tn I am in a relationship with a man who does not have it. I have been on valtrex since May. In Septembere I noticed more hair than usual in the tub. I didnt think anything of it. Now more and more hair is coming out and my hair is thinning, noticeably in the front. I talked to my gyno, who said valtrex is not the problem, she has patients on valtrex that do not have that symptom. She advised to see a dermatologist. She told me its the stress I have from everyday life.
Avatar n tn Today I was put on valtrex for my herpes outbreaks. I'm currently 24 weeks and 4 days and I know I have heard or even seen reviews that most women are put on it by 35 or 36 weeks. But I have been having outbreaks and just not taking anything for it was driving me crazy. As many ppl tell me its going to b ok I'm still furious and afraid out of my mind. please ladies I just need some reassurance,is there anyone who has taken this medication and am I taking too soon?
7996069 tn?1410153318 You absolutly need to have a blood test as does your mate. Pregnant women take antivirals to help prevent outbreaks during labor so talk to your doctor about your concerns about taking them now with out any test results and please dont forget the blood test both you and your mate.
Avatar n tn Estrogen levels are higher during ovulation, and there are studies showing that estrogen is linked to herpes. This is why women seem to have herpes more than men. It is just that women present more than men do because we have more estrogen. If I don't take the Valtrex, the outbreaks progress to oozing and crusting over. I really don't see what else this could be. My question was more about my immune system anyway. Thanks.
Avatar m tn I have read that if a couple where the male has HSV-2 and the female is both HSV-1 and HSV-2 negative does nothing more than avoid sexual contact during outbreaks, the female has an 8% chance of contracting HSV-2 genitally in any given year. However, if the male takes 500 mg of Valtrex daily, that percentage is reduced to about 4%.
Avatar f tn I am a heterosexual female. I have been taking 500mg of Valtrex everyday since and have only had one outbreak (the original one). What are the chances I transmit HSV2 to my male partner through oral and vaginal sex? I am also curious to know what is the risk of transmission from vaginal sex with and without condoms. I am really nervous to tell my new partner that I have herpes but having some stats about his risk of infection would be helpful. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Valtrex regularly for 2 months and I have been taking 1 gram of Valtrex steadily for 2 weeks, and it is not going away. Valtrex has always worked quickly when I have had outbreaks in the past. The symptoms of this lesion (itchiness or soreness) come and go. What could be causing this? Could it be something other than herpes? Could the Valtrex be harmful to my baby? I go to the doctor again, soon, but want to be armed with all the inform. I can.
233552 tn?1228319699 I'm almost 9 weeks pregnant, I just got home from the hospital and the doc told me I have shingles. There is nothing they can do or give me that I will take because there are no studies on meds with pregnant woman. I know the cause I just don't know what if anything will happen to my baby. I'm freaking out here. Most people with shingles are in there 60's. I'm not even 30.
Avatar n tn t sure) nothing serious just some itching and a little discharge I thought was related to a recent camping trip I had taken. She did some tests and told me that she thought it was herpes and perscribed Valtrex. While taking the medication I was not feeling very well but as soon as the meds were done I felt fine again. The clinic told me I had herpes about a week later. So okay that ***** but life goes on.
Avatar f tn How good does valtrex work in suppressing HSV 1 I started taking 1000 mg a day?
Avatar f tn So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?
