Avatar m tn Oral hsv1 is linked to Bell's Palsy, not genital. Herpes infects nerve groups, so if you have genital herpes, it doesn't affect your face, and vice versa. There are other causes of Bell's Palsy, though, like Lyme Disease and Epstein-Barr, which causes mono. Yes, hsv1 is the cause for a large number of cases, but it's not the only one. The other thing to note is that the IgG test can miss 30% of hsv1 infections.
Avatar m tn I have read that there is an association with hsv-1 reactivation and Bell's Palsy. Do you ever see Bell's Palsy during the course of a primary hsv infection? My 26 y.o. son is awaiting test results after hsv genital type symptoms from a sexual encounter of about 20 days ago. He was negative for IgG hsv-1 and 2 but positive for hsv IgM (which I gather is nonspecifc for hsv 1 or 2) He has had some mild skin changes (about 2 cm.
Avatar m tn A year ago I went to the beach and sunbathed and the next morning woke up with paralysis on the left side of my face. Started with my tongue left side with a mild burning feeling and numbness then couldn't blink my left eye or smile from left side..etc went to Ear NOSE and Throat Dr and he said I had Bell's Palsy which is caused by Herpes. Gave me antifungal, prednisone and herpes medicine (forget the name)..There was nor have never been sores on my lips or mouth...
Avatar n tn I'm sorry, but I have forgotten to include that I developed Bell's Palsy about 2.5 weeks ago, and just finished a 7 day perscription of valtrex (3/day) and predisone about 4 days before that first friday in my post. Bell's Palsy is associated with the HSV1 and I have gotten cold sores since i was really young, so I wasn't completely surprised about that. The bell's palsy is actually much much better now, and should get fully better in about a week.
Avatar f tn I am 25 years old and have suffered from severe fatigue for the past few years. I have had multiple medical conditions to include severe cervical dysplasia, endometriosis, ovarian cysts and ovarian tumors, all benign. In December of 2007 I had a total hysterectomy to include a bilateral oopherectomy. I have been on hormone replacement therapy since and all hormone levels are normal. My health though has continued to deteriorate.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed Valtrex and it works sometimes. I also have had bells palsy, which I have read that it has been linked to herpes. It took a very long time for this to be diagnosed. I have had surgery on my hand, because one doctor thought it was a spider bite. (before I went on Valtrex and got diagnosed I would have red streaks following my veins, I went to the emergency many times for this). So my question is: Has anybody experienced this?
Avatar n tn I had terrible bell's palsy and blindness and loss of taste, I still can't taste food. I also had vertigo and dizziness lying down or standing up. Recently I've been having terrible problems speaking or even understanding speech and hearing loss in both years. Is this RH? I'm worried I won't be able to work or study Can Ramsey cause this and should I treat it with valtrex?
Avatar f tn Hi. I have had bell's palsy more then 10 times in the last 2 years. Had a mri done and two small spots showed up in the white matter of my brain. I had a lumbar puncture done, still waiting on the results. Could many bell's palsy attacks be a sign for ms? If not what could be causing so many attacks?
Avatar n tn Hi I was wondering if you ever received any answers and if you feel better now. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis in October 2019 and got Bell's Palsy end of February 2020. It's now July and I still have the Bell's Palsy. Just wondering if you have any answers you can share. Thank you.
410281 tn?1254229064 My understanding is that true Bell's Palsy is caused by a peripheral nerve problem. But the root of the cranial nerve (is it VII?) is in the brain, and therefore a lesion in this region (maybe the pons?) could cause a CNS version of Bell's Palsy. A close friend of mine has had Bell's Palsy 3 times in 10 years. The doctors can find no obvious cause for her repeated Bell's Palsy, but she has permanent nerv damage on her face.
Avatar f tn on tuesday i was admited in the hospital the said had a condition call bell's palsy when i return home look it up and i read one reason i could have gotten that is that if iam pregnant is that true i have not taken a test yet cause i scared i will be disappointed if it is negative but i keep looking for symtoms like the red line you get on your belly but have none.
Avatar m tn If my partner just got Bell's palsy should I go get my self checked out for herpes? This discussion is related to Chlamydia and hiv fine but what abt herpes and bells palsy.
Avatar f tn Hi there. That must be upsetting to have this recurring so often. We are not doctors here. We're just patients. There are several potential causes of Bell's Palsy, so I would suggest you bring this up to your doctor in precisely the same way you've mentioned it here. Try and provide them with the timeline of your experience with Bell's Palsy. I hope they are able to provide you with answers!
Avatar f tn Bell's palsy is a form of facial paralysis resulting from a dysfunction of the cranial nerve VII (the facial nerve) causing an inability to control facial muscles on the affected side. Several conditions can cause facial paralysis, e.g., brain tumor, stroke, myasthenia gravis, and Lyme disease. However, if no specific cause can be identified, the condition is known as Bell's palsy.
Avatar f tn Most studies indicate that Bell's Palsy is caused by the inflammation of the facial nerve and this can occur as a result of the herpes virus; even herpes simplex. I see no real connection to Breast Cancer Treatment. On occasion it may well happen to someone who is post-treatment for breast cancer but it is known to affect men and women equally / breast cancer, Chemotherapy or not.
Avatar f tn Few months back I performed oral sex for a minute on a massage lady. The next morning, my left side of my face was paralyzed and I was diagnosis with Bell's Palsy. Did not tell my doctor what I did and she said it was probably an viral infection. She prescribed steroid and it was healed in about 2 weeks. I searched the net and can't find any relationship between STI/HIV and Bell's Palsy but I am nervous that they are related. Anyone knows if any STI/HIV can cause Bell's Palsy?
