I'm actually using the 3 day monistat treatment right now lol. It's safe to use. If anything I think its safer than the one day pill antibiotic they prescribe for yeast infections called Diflucan.
We got back together and I experienced my first yeast infection. I used monistat and the symptoms went away, and waited a week to have sex. The sex was slightly painful and had a little amount of spotting afterwards. Well, the yeast infection came back right away... we went though this cycle of me taking monistat and getting the infection about 2 days after having sex so I went to the doctor.
A few days after finishing the antibiotics I began to have the same symptoms as the yeast infection and took diflucan and monistat again. A couple weeks after that irritation I experienced similar symptoms again. I took monistat for a day and I was fine. Now 3 weeks later I have the same faint burning and itching on the outside of my vaginal opening. I have searched my vagina and have no skin irritation or bumps just the itch and burn sensation.
I am 38 weeks pg., and have had a yeast inf. for about a week and a half...I have taken the Diflucan pill once, a cream (one time application) once, and now the Dr. gave me more Diflucan..... what else can I do???? Should I buy some over the counter monistat and use that too???? It is such a stubborn infection with all these hormones....what the heck do I do at this point??? I am so frustrated. Please help me.
She was having white discharge that was not in the cottage cheese texture, but it was accompanied with slight itching and it was very stretchy. Well she used monistat one and it seems that everything else has subsided, but now she has been having what seems to be blood or a gooey brown discharge. We do not know if her body has reacted to the monistat in a weird way or if that is a side effect of taking monistat. I hope someone can give me some answers so I can stop her from worrying so much.
The discomfort was still bad so they had me add Monistat and Vagisil on day 2 after my first pill. The Monistat made me sting so badly and itch even more, that I used Vagisil extra strength 20% benzocaine probably 7 times (small amounts less than 1 inch) today. (Is that dangerous?)
The itching has kept me awake all night. How long should this take to calm down? I haven't had a yeast infection since I was young. (Age 63 now).

I had my first ever yeast infection November 2017 right after my period. It was itchy as all hell and when I looked inside it was completely white like I've never seen before. I talked to a few friends and they all said take a Monistat and it'll be gone in a week. WRONG. The monistat (1-day) burned my vulva! I was on fire and swollen and when I saw everyone else had those side effects I went to urgent care and got a diflucan.
I used it lastnight and im getting a slight burning feeling down there. Before I was pregnant I would use the 3 day and never got that feeling. Have you used it?
My question is, I think I have a yeast infection after taking metronidazole to treat BV. Is it safe for me to take Monistat without a doctor's diagnosis of a yeast infection?
A bit more detail if needed - doctor told me I had BV and prescribed the Metronidazole gel for 5 days. I finished using the gel on Sunday Oct 2. My symptoms seemed to be going away. However, starting yesterday morning, I have been experiencing some itching as well as thick, cottage-cheese like discharge.
I went to the doctor and was tested for everything that could cause the itch and they said it was a yeast infection and gave me Diflucan. It helped for about a day and then stopped. I went back to the same clinic a week later and got another dose which helped for three days this time and then stopped. All my test for STI's came back negative.
A month and a half later, I moved and had to go to a new PP because I was still experiencing the itchiness.
Monistat 7 is the safest thing to use during pregnancy. I used it in early pregnancy with my 3 girls and there were healthy. if it was me don't use that prescription, just the Monistat. My doctor that I had, now I'm having my 5th baby and they say Monistat is the safest to use and you can even use the cheapest brand, it's all the same.
Saturday 3/27/10 I decided to shave my genitals. A few minutes later, I was itching a lot. The itching continued throughout the days and only got worse. The scratching didn't help since it produced blisters. I went to my gyn the following Thursday who prescribed three supositories for a yeast infection and sent some culture to the lab. That Friday he called saying I needed antibiotics and prescribed metronidazole two tables a day for 7 days.
This is easily treated by an over the counter antifungal from the pharmacy. You can get a single dose tablet (Diflucan) or creams and pessaries ie Canesten/monistat. The tablet takes 2 or 3 days to start working so using a cream in the meantime can really help. You can buy a prepackaged tablet and cream set.
I take difflucan as needed and so far with the pregnancy i have now i get them every month and spreads to underneath my breast and skin and stuff. So my ob gives me like 5 diflucan and to take them 1 a week as soon aa symptoms are recognized along with nystatin powder.
Depending symptoms and severity im sure your ob will choose whats safest and best for u. :)

I used monostat one day and it did work but takes about 2 days. Why won't your doctor prescribe diflucan? It's a tablet you take and works well. It's not an antibiotic as antibiotics actually cause yeast infections but an antifungal (which yeast is a fungal issue). I'd ask for diflucan if your doctor is open to you being able to do that.
I developed a yeast inefection after 2 rounds of antibiotics for a major ear inefection. I've had a few yeast infections before so I picked up some Monistat 1. I wish I hadn't because I had the worst, most painful burning I've ever felt. In fact, my actual yeast inefection was less irritating and painful than the Monistat 1. After the irritation went away in a few days I realized I still had a yeast infection so I went in to see the dr.
