Common Questions and Answers about Use of vicodin in pregnancy

vicodin

Avatar m tn Hey guys. I've got a problem slightly different from the ones I've been sorting through looking for an answer, so I decided to post here. I have chronic migraines, and my doctors think it's related to stress and anxiety. They put me on Vicodin for the pain while waiting for a drug called "Topamax" to kick in, which takes a few months, and when it did it only dulled them and lowered the frequency.
Avatar f tn I took lortab up until I found out I was expecting, then I weaned myself off. I am now 30 weeks and have had severe kidney problems with this pregnancy. The baby is in a position that's putting a block on my urinary tract and my bladder, so my kidneys aren't functioning properly and it's causing repetitive infections. Also I have kidney stones and am in the process of passing one as we speak.
606482 tn?1220540197 I do not have anymore vicodin left, I have two more months of pregnancy left, just wondering if I do not take another pill during my pregnancy, would the drug be out of my system,by the time the baby is born?
Avatar f tn Why are you taking the vicodin? What kind of pain was it prescribed for? Vicodin can cause breathing problems if that is what you are referring to when you mean your "chest seems heavy". The back and neck could be your anxiety or your brain coming up with pain to get more pills. If you are worried about addiction and you don't have a medical reason to take the pills I would stop taking them now before you become addicted or dependent on them.
Avatar f tn Always best to be safe rather then sorry. Honestly, your use has been quite minimal, but why chance it? I work in the field of social services, and although there are many factors looked at, if this is the only issue, it's pretty unlikely there would be any repercussions. However, it is extremely important you discuss this directly with your OB. Congrats on your baby and I wish you all the best.
Avatar m tn The only thing to pay attention to is that you do not take a ton of tylenol too, as tylenol in high doses can affect the liver
Avatar f tn I have been taking 1 vicodin daily at night to relive pain in my ribs due to the pregnancy. I took codeine with my first and he was 100% perfect with no problems or complications and took that from 14weeks through the end of my pregnancy. I did tons of research and i trust my clinic so if its what your dr. Has given you than only use it when its necessary and try relax about it.
Avatar f tn i only used vicodin throughout most of the pregnancy... my last visit at 35 weeks she said i could use the valium if i need to so i could get some sleep they are 2mg tabs. i only used it maybe 5 times throughout the rest of the pregnancy because i was reading online that it shouldnt be taken during pregnancy.. i guess now since the baby is completely formed it cant really do harm. the vicodin i take are 5/500...
Avatar f tn Xray of ankle is fine and most pain killers are safe in pregnancy including Tylenol 3 (codeine) and vicodien, percocet too. I have a fractured spine and pelvis and I am 29 weeks pregnant and take vicodein every day for pain. My dr is aware and both dr and OB are completely fine with it. They said it's better to control the pain that not bc your bodys reaction to pain can stress the baby.
Avatar f tn I am, or should I say was, a recreational drug user. In the last two months I smoked pot regularly and took approx. 3 vicodin 10mg and 1 percocet 10mg to help with back pain from a car accident. I don't regularly use pain meds and am far from addicted, I am just so worried that those couple pills hurt my little one. :( help!
Avatar f tn Welcome, lilmomma :-) Glad you are here....you have found an incredible support system, and a tremendously caring bunch of people. I dont know much about what youre dealing with, but keep posting, and please please see a doc asap.
Avatar n tn Did your doctor prescribe it to you for this? If not, STOP right now...'experimenting' with prescription medications, which are extremely addictive can NEVER have good outcomes.
Avatar f tn For some, tramadol is a god-send. For others, like me, it's just as bad as vicodin in terms of addiction. Is your doc aware of tramadol's potential pitfalls? Too many physicians regard tram as relatively harmless.
Avatar m tn She will be able to help you with the latest information in terms of safety and contraindications of Vicodin in the first trimester of pregnancy. In some cases, it may be that the benefit of taking Vicodin in the first trimester does outweigh the risks involved with taking Vicodin in the first trimester.
Avatar f tn But we havent really talked about it since the beginning of my pregnancy. I must admit that in addition to helping with my back pain the medicine helps with anxiety and my stress levels, so i do take them for emotional reasons, my life is very stressful. My question is, since I have been taking it so moderately and I am not addicted to the pills should I have any worry of the baby having any problems when he is born?
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I would like to ask whether the use of Raglan in pregnancy due to the morning sickness can have negative effect for the baby? Because I am throwing out everything I can't eat, I even couldn't drink and was in hospital last week, and the doctor said I have to take Raglan. I take the medicine now and I feel better but I'm worried for the baby.
Avatar n tn Those are all symptoms of opiate use you cant really pin point it down to one perticular opiate
7369582 tn?1395996075 There is risk of your baby being addicted when theyre born. I got 2 teeth pulled for the same reasons and got vicodine but only took it when i needed it. Addiction is only a possibility if you take them often and for a long period of time.
Avatar n tn Hi--seems like an easy ?--my boyfriend of 4 years has a vicodin rx for back surgery 15 years ago!! He tries to quit, or gets taken off of it, then gets moody, cold and dumps me or others in a very "bipolar" (the "now" phrase) way. Makes unsensible decisions, hurtful remarks, etc. and is plain grouchy without it. Could be that he's just plain bipolar, however, I can't help but say that the vicodin is of zero help, I know he can live without it.
Avatar n tn Such a low dose for only a week, followed by CT, won't cause any withdrawals. Generally takes several weeks of steady use to create dependence, and therefore the potential for physical withdrawal symptoms. If you do experience anything, it should be very very minor.
427258 tn?1266445242 They CAN take the tooth out, but the novacaine they use will have to be the kind without Epinepherine(Sp?) And My. OBGYN dr. gave me Vicodin to take for migraines so I know it's safe to take.
12103503 tn?1423448886 Vicodin and Tylenol 3 are both Category C drugs for pregnant women.  According to the FDA, this means "Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks."  In other words, it hasn't been proven harmful, but it hasn't been proven safe, either.
Avatar f tn Hydrocodone 10/325 I found myself talking 120 pills in 2 weeks. I am into day 3 of having no medicine. Can someone tell how soon is the worst over.
Avatar f tn Oycodone is in a different class of drugs than Vicodin. Vicodin is a Schedule III drug and Oxycodone is a Schedule II drug. It is stronger than Vicodin and probably the reason your doctor prescribed it rather than the hydrocodone (vicodin) is because oxycodone is available in a pure form without acetominophen in it. Hydrocodone is not.
1658597 tn?1306262892 By far, your dependance on vicodin is one of the lowest, least destructive I have ever heard of. But if you are thinking about in the terms you are, then you may need to talk to someone. Nothing wrong with that, I think I'm going to be making an appointment to do the same.
Avatar m tn I dont believe in long term use of narcotics for pain, but if u r one of the ones who does not build a tolerence then I would take them if it helps the pain...15 mg a day is not very much...I was very slow to build a tolerence but I did eventually...you are well aware after being on this forum of how careful u need to be and the second u abused them I would quit...I guess for some reason I thought you had a larger habit than that...
