Avatar n tn Some psychologists have expertise in working with physicians to assist in the treatment of sexual problems. That avenue may be worth exploring as well. Finally, cognitive behavioral therapy has been shown to help some adults with ADHD to learn skills to enhance personal organization and memory. The nice thing about cognitive behavioral treatments is that they come without side effects! Good luck to you Rebecca Disclaimer: This post was written for educational purposes only.
Avatar f tn I took ritalin in late teens for adhd and developed epilepsy in early thirties. No history of seizures in family but my brother who also took ritalin in late teens also eveloped seizures as I did.
Avatar n tn The Department of Geriatrics at Johns Hopkins University conducted a dedicated seminar at Mount Sinai Hospital geriatrics department three years ago warning against inappropriate use of risperdal in the elderly.
Avatar m tn Probably the only guarantee is that the meds have been used for a very long time. Ritalin has been used since at least the early '70's, and Adderall since 1996. Perhaps that is why Susan Ashley in her book ADD & ADHD AnswerBook on page 164 says that, "With the millions of children treated, there are no known permanently damaging effects. To date there have been no known studies suggesting the presence of negative long-term effects".
Avatar m tn All i want to know is will it show up at all and if it does will it show my high levels of ritalin being in my system so the doctors will know i was abusing it. If anyone knows what theyre talking about please answer this question so i know what i should expect at my next visit and perhaps give me a hint as to what i should say because if it does show up, perhaps just proving i have a prescription to ritalin will get me off the hook? any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn regarding the use of Ritalin for students. They talked about how beneficial it was for concentration and focus. It allowed many students to stay up longer to complete their studies. It went on to say that in controlled usage it was a great medication. They predicted that it will be more widely used for college students in particular. So yes, I would discuss the possibility that the drug may benefit you. It is certainly worth a try.
14631020 tn?1436545476 Shannon, I am prescribed the generic form of Adderall, continuous release, 40 mg. Mostly I don't take it, since it sometimes makes me feel a little nervous, and I don't like the idea of being on an amphetamine. But it works, sort of, in that I can get things done when I really have to. Unlike you, though, I am retired, so I don't absolutely have to get things done every day. (There's actually an upside to being old!
294425 tn?1288528395 I always get them with pseudoephedrine, the decongestant. But, that kind of sensation is also common in MS. If the sensation always occurs in the same place it's more likely the MS. But really could be either. Other things used in the fatigue if the Ritalin causes problems are amantadine, Provigil (which didn't help you) and alternative docs use Acetyl-l-carnitine (not just L-carnitine) sometimes in combo with alpha lipoic acid. I believe that combo is also being used in Europe.
1497278 tn?1289708073 I have seen numerous adult posters who use it on an as needed basis. One advantage of ritalin is that it is out of the system fairly quickly and is also fast acting so it can be used this way. The other thought is that there are some newer meds out now that are longer acting and I believe less mild. And of course, there are also the non- stimulant meds. As I think that you are finding out - you just have to experiment a bit to find out what works for you.
Avatar n tn So often in the morning he will seem unfocused so will not do well during early 8am test. His doctor and I discussed trying Ritalin first in the morning and then adding Vyvanse, which is the reverse of what many people do. Since Ritalin is faster acting I'm hoping that it will kick in first ( is it within 30 minutes?) and then after it kicks in to give Vyvanse.
Avatar f tn And sometimes starting new medication can cause a short term increase in anxiety. I had severe tingling in my arms from anxiety and had to get a CT scan to rule out a stroke. Amazingly, as soon as I found out my brain was okay, my tingling went away within a day or so. Continuing to worry about it can cause the symptoms to continue and even become worse. I recommend speaking to your doctor and trying to calm down and see if your symptoms go away.
2083581 tn?1332307861 I currently use Ritalin for ADD and it also helps depression. Does anyone have suggestions for supplementing this with another drug. I have heard wellbutrin works well with Ritalin but I would like to here from someone with experience. Ritalin is the only drug that has ever helped me but when it wears off I am depressed again. (and I have tried Concerta and did like it) Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I am 50 yrs old and have on opioids for 15 years due to back injuries. I agree totally with above responder. I was bedridden for a spell and use Ritalin in small doses to get motivated. I have just today switched from 15 mg oxycodone x4 day with 10 mg OxyContin at night. I am tired of popping pills. If it weren't for the stimulant (Ritalin) I would be like your husband. At his age a small dose would do it. I know this is an older post, I hope things are looking up by now.
Avatar m tn Ritalin for Adults With ADHD. Ritalin for ADHD treatment in adults has not been adequately studied, meaning that no large studies have been conducted on the benefits and risks of using it to treat adult ADHD. However, healthcare providers may prescribe Ritalin for adult ADHD in certain situations. This is considered an "off-label" of the drug.
Avatar m tn Im 17, 6'1" 140lb male years old and snort my own Ritalin and smoke pot, but as of now my biggest worry is that I am going down the road of an alcoholic. I have had to take my Ritalin late at night and in order to calm myself down so that I can fall asleep I've begun to drink 5-6 shots of 80 proof booze. That doesn't really worry me because I look at the internal chemistry and look at how the two offset and say that's fine.
Avatar m tn It has been extensively studied and I took part in a two-year, double-blind study to test the efficacy of the herb. Believe me, if your problem is memory, this works. You don't want to subject yourself to dangerous drugs without the absolute certainty that you require them.
Avatar f tn If she is taking that much of it there is 325 mg. of aspirin in each pill. That is alot of aspirin to consume even for a younger person. It could cause bleeding problems in the stomach and intestines as well as excessive bruising. I agree with Molly in regards to asking a doctor to change her medication to something long acting or even just Oxycodone with no other additives such as aspirin or acetomenophin. It is available in 5mg and 10mg doses. Good luck.
Avatar f tn WARNINGS - Ritalin should not be used in children under six years, since safety and efficacy in this age group have not been established. Sufficient data on safety and efficacy of long-term use of Ritalin in children are not yet available. Although a causal relationship has not been established, suppression of growth (ie, weight gain, and/or height) has been reported with the long-term use of stimulants in children. Therefore, patients requiring long-term therapy should be carefully monitored.
Avatar m tn I had to take 15 just to get out of bed in the morning. In early March I had decided that enough was enough. I had no money, bills piling up, and I had blown through all of my student loan money, and had borrowed hundreds of dollars from family and friends. I knew all about Suboxone, and how much it helped. I found a Doctor who prescribed it, and made an appointment. I started on a low dose of 4mg twice a day. It has been 2 months now, and I take 4mg 3 times a day.
Avatar f tn we buried him last summer of a pill overdose. so they are addicting, and if you are questioning your use of em u prolly have a problem. best of luk to ya, and remember that no grade or study is worth losing yourself for....
Avatar n tn It is an anxiety disorder, connected to OCD...you can read about it or ask your dr. I see you have ritalin and anti-depressants, common meds in treating anxiety disorders. My family has a history of this, my husband is 57 and has been taking ritalin since 50 years old, diagnosed with adult ADD...helps immensely, he has Tourette's as well. His son also has OCD, ADHD, Tourette's, and although not on meds, he should be...his anxiety disorders are quite severe.
Avatar m tn And the eye is a very complex part of the human body, which brings alot of new knowledge everyday. All this knowledge in accomplished by studying the effects of medicines etc on millions of patients. That is why I'm very happy to bring you the knowledge of the effects of several medicines on myself. Also I hope you can answer and investigate most of the questions I ask. Even tho my English isn't always perfect, we can still understand each other.
351317 tn?1204751871 Your problem probably originates from combination of Ritalin, which has "tics" (muscular spasms) among its side effects. Caffeine is just another stimulant. What do you think about dropping caffeine totally?
Avatar n tn But it makes no difference in size whether I am menstruating or not. In fact, 4 out of the 5 weeks of my menstrual cycle, my boobs are in a lot of pain. My nipples are so sensitive to the touch and I can not run without 3 sports bras on. It just doesn't make sense to me. I'm 22 so I am not going through puberty, I am not on the pill and I am not pregnant. And it is so noticeable that people at work are speculating that they are implants. They're not!
Avatar f tn This happened twice more, before my thyroid finally just stopped working completely when I was 57 yrs old and I put on 30 lbs in 3 months, in spite of a physically demanding job, calorie restriction, etc. I've since developed insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome and gained an additional 20 pounds, in spite of a strict diet, tracking calories, exercise, etc.
Avatar n tn The drug I’m referring to is specifically Ritalin not Ritalin SR (sustained release). Ritalin is made in 5, 10 or 20 mg tablets. This question involve the dosage Ritalin is prescribed. I’ve read that the average dosage for adults is 30 mg/day. I’m a 25 year old male. I weigh 220 lbs. and am 5’11”. The only other medication I’m on is 100 mg of Zoloft/day for the treatment of depression. I have no prior medical issues.
Avatar m tn A psychiatrist is a medical doctor and a specialist in medical management of psychiatric disorders. I would keep a journal of symptoms and unusual behaviors prior to the appointment, and if you can, try to video what your son is like during an outburst. Make the psychiatrist aware if you observe symptoms such as: disordered thinking, strange ideas or delusions, mood swings, periods of reduced need for sleep, extreme changes in energy level, hypersexuality and suicidal or homicidal ideas.
