1118724 tn?1357014191 I also eat food that is high in potassium and take a med that helps the potassium from being leached from my body from taking lasix, so I don't know why the "No Salt" is an issue. What I use that really adds a lot of flavor - and I used it for many years is a spice -called "Spike". It goes great on everything. You can get it with or without salt. My husband is eating his food the same way I season mine now and he really likes it. It's a great combination of spices.
Avatar m tn For example, potassium makes up only 16.7% of the weight of potassium gluconate, 38.3% of potassium citrate and 52% of potassium chloride. Potassium dose is sometimes calculated in milliequivalents (1 milliequivalent equals 39.09 milligrams of potassium). When sold as dietary supplements, potassium pills typically contain up to 99 mg of elemental potassium per pill.
Avatar m tn No -- below is a copy of the main question and an added clarification --- ""It also seems to make clear that the type of potassium salt you are taking (chloride, citrate, gluconate, acetate, bicarbonate, etc) does not matter. The only thing that counts is the amount of actual (elemental) potassium you are ingesting. For instance we take 595mg tablets of potassium gluconate containing 99mg of elemental potassium.
Avatar f tn Which, according to the conversion given with Klor-Con (both are Potassium Chloride, i.e. KCl), is 1500 mg of KCl/day. Now I also went to the government website for recommended daily intake for potassium, and that turned out to be a bit of a hot mess so bear with me here. They have the chart set up as a .pdf file download, but when I downloaded it to my computer, it turned out they have it improperly formatted (the have the wrong file extension in the filename for some reason).

Avatar f tn (DIN#00074225) and he gave me a sheet with a bunch of foods listed on it that are high in potassium. Most of them I can't eat right now, like the meats (beef, pork, chicken, veal, turkey) I find meats hard to eat. Most of the fruit I can eat, some of the juices I can. My problem is the vegetables. There is a list of veggies like cabbage, lima beans, tomato, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, and potato. All but the lima beans, tomato and potato says "cooked" in brackets.
Avatar m tn Diarrhea for that long can cause serious dehydration make him weak or dizzy or in need of an IV. Try making an ALL natural electrolyte drink at home (it's much safer than Pedialyte or sports drinks). You don't want to give him juice or milk.
Avatar f tn I have found that oddly enough, taking calcium and drinking 16 oz of water with 1000 mg of potassium chloride powder mixed in a few times a day seems to help. Yeah, weird, I know. Also, none of my docs can make any sense of it. I would be very interested if you make any progress or happen upon any new ideas that help.
687665 tn?1227106840 Science Diet is a good premium brand that has been in business for a long time. None of their dog foods were adversely affected by the pet food recall in March of 2007, only a few select canned cat foods and a dry veterinary only cat diet. I think the most important thing about a "good" dog food is whether or not the dog will eat the food!!

Avatar n tn I may also tell you that many ACE inhibitors and ARBS for blood pressure control warn you not to use salt substitutes and they are in many of the healthy prepared foods that we buy in the form of potassium chloride. Also aspartame in diet foods has been linked to these things by some. Maybe we can all help each other to eliminate possible causes. I think that stress still makes one more susceptible and adding the other causes does not help during those times.
Avatar m tn The Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score has been in use since February 2002. It is used to measure a patient's risk of dying from chronic liver failure over a 90 day period from the day it was measured. It is used to determine the order and urgency of patients waiting for a liver transplant. The "MELD score" is a number scale. The range is from 6 (less ill) to 40 (gravely ill).
Avatar n tn The spice section of your supermarket look for a salt substitute with potassium chloride. if you use them regularly, you can restore your potassium-to-sodium ratio in a matter of months. These salt substitutes deliver more than 500 mg of potassium in each serving. Don’t expect a salt substitute to taste like salt. You might need to try a few different brands before you find one that suits your taste.
Avatar n tn Not everyone is going to think the same way, I can appreciate a blunt answer as well as honey coated answers. Reality in this situation is, a decision needs to be made REGARDLESS of the amount of time remaining in this elderly woman's life. I would not put my mom or my MIL in a "home", no matter how nice, period. I cared for my senile granny (90 yrs) for three months a year for several years to give Mom a break.
Avatar m tn I would personally recommend as a preventive measure to add a couple tablespoons of coconut oil in her food. Coconut oil is antiviral ,antiparasitic, antifungal and antimicrobial. This is something we use (extra virgin & organic) in our family for years, as it is on of the top "functional" foods! If you need any details, please post again! Cheers!
Avatar n tn For a couple of weeks, I have a vibrating sensation in the penis area. I first thought my cell phone may have started it since I have had it attached to my belt, on the vibrate status. I stopped doing this and still feel it. It is either a vibration or a sensation of filling up with liquid. No other symptoms are there. No pain in urination, no pain in sex, have been married for many years with one partner, and no urge to go to the bathroom.
Avatar f tn Try getting some renal diet tins of dog food and try him on that - it is lower in some of the problems contained in food, and it will help give him some energy. Only you can decide when the right time to euthanize has arrived. Your dog will tell you if that time is today, tomorrow or some other time. Right now, the priority is to make him feel more comfortable, so concentrate on getting the anti-nausea medication and the KD diet.

1916673 tn?1420236870 Hi tonyb286 Sadly, Ruby Tuesday lost the battle and I had to help her out of this life on Friday. She refused all food and water for 5 days and in spite of a daily Ringers subcut bolus AND Ambrotose, she did not get any better. When she stopped wagging her tail and barely managed to walk over to me, I knew I had to say goodbye. My heart is broken.........
184674 tn?1360864093 Jade did have a bout with crystals - a condition much more prevalent in males so as Opus said, if you can get him on all wet food, will save you alot of money in the end...and pain for kitty. Good luck at the vet, AH. We look forward to your update.
1358341 tn?1282213443 4) There is no chlore in the Renalzin but there is in cat renal food and there is in tap water of course. Their chlore-potassium is interesting but chlore (Cl-) kills all bacterias good and bad. That's why renal food weaken cats digestive system (I suppose). 5) I'm just afraid the bacterias eat the Renalzin ? Anyway now that I've discovered that chlore in cat renal food kills intestinal and stomachal flora, me also recommend you any probiotics available for cats in your country.
Avatar n tn The only thing they give you is pain management, potassium chloride and an acid reducer in your IV. I went in on Friday morning by Monday I was feeling good enough to go on my Daughters field trip. Probably I should of stayed home, but kids just don't understand. I don't know if what happened during my treatment is norm, but I think the key to quick recovery is knowing what to look for. I'm also not one that can sit and feel bad forever. Trust me if you get pancreatitis you know it.
Avatar f tn The doctor who developed it emailed me back after requesting counsel and told me only 4% of magnesium oxide is absorbed into the body. Only 1% of the body's magnesium is shown in blood, so it could show normal range but be lower since the blood levels stays up by pulling it from bones and tissues. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and answer me. I really appreciate it.
Avatar f tn Hi Tony I am in Ireland and I have Lucy,s lab report in my hand her Alk phos was 62 her phosphate is 3.
Avatar f tn Benadryl is also something of an anti-emetic, and can be given at 1 mg per pound of the dog's weight, but I doubt it will be very effective in the face of this kind of vomiting. Worth a try though. Another thing that helps is calcium - lots of it. I was giving Chica 2 Tums a day during her last couple of months. The calcium binds to phosphorus which is deadly to those in renal failure.
244899 tn?1313628239 I kept a styrofoam cup at my desk at work and I filled it up as many times a day as it took to get my gallon in and I marked the side of the cup each time I filled it so that I didn't lose track. (I know, styrofoam cups aren't "green"...but it was necessary at the time). Do the best you can with the water helps.
Avatar n tn I am a man in my late 40's and having the same buzzing sensations. It drives me crazy. Kind of like Chinese water torture. Anyone find out what this is?
