Avatar f tn JMHO. That being said chicken pox is dangerous in pregnancy and can cause complications in the mother (pneumonia for starters) as well as in the fetus. I absolutely would take what the dr prescribe me since it is treatment for chicken pox in pregnancy.
Avatar m tn My daughter has been HSV2 positive for appx three years but has not had any outbreaks since the first year. She is in her last five weeks of pregnancy and her doctor has prescribed acyclovir 400mg once a day. My understanding has been that acyclovir is a twice a day medication. Is the medication going to benefit her at this dosage or does it need to be changed? Thank you!
Avatar f tn The only times I stopped suppressive therapy once I started it were because of pregnancy and for 6 months I was off while I participated in a research study. I have no plans on stopping it again anytime soon.
Avatar f tn postmarketing experience with valacyclovir provides evidence of favorable safety and efficacy in herpes simplex virus (HSV) management. Valacyclovir enhances acyclovir bioavailability compared with orally administered acyclovir. Long-term use of acyclovir for up to 10 years for HSV suppression is effective and well tolerated.
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor about going on suppression (taking acyclovir daily) for the rest of your pregnancy if you want to help prevent outbreaks. You could also get a prescription for acyclovir to have it on hand to take when you start noticing symptoms of an outbreak. The sooner you take it, the better.
Avatar m tn I use acyclovir to and you must know that it doesnt take effect spontaneously especially the first time your using it. It helps relieve the pain though but might take some time to take effect. Just continue use it and youll see the sore will go away within 3-4 days instead of the usual 7-8 days they take to go away.
Avatar m tn Daily suppressive therapy and proper condom use in addition to that increases her odds of staying hsv2 negative to 97-98% likely NOT to contract hsv2 from you each year.
Avatar n tn There are no long term issues with using acyclovir. They have info on folks using it non-stop suppressively for over 20 years without any issues. 200mg 2x/day isn't going to do squat. You need to have it increased to the proper doses for it to do any good at all.
Avatar m tn t disappear but also without quantity increasing, worsening or brokening and I go back to the same clinic on 13 March and do all the STD test included HSV blood test and get a physical check up from doctor, the doctor say this one bubble(only one) seems like HSV2, but have to get the conformation from the result in next week. However, she give me 15 tablets of Acyclovir and told me to finish it in 5 days. I was very worried now.
Avatar f tn At that time, I was given Famvir. Then no more outbreaks. In August of 2011, I went to planned parenthood because I had a new boyfriend and wanted to try my best not to pass it to him. They gave me acyclovir 2 times a day. I took it for a month and ran out for a couple of days before I got a refill and I had a very itchy rash across the right side of my waist.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I would like to ask whether the use of Raglan in pregnancy due to the morning sickness can have negative effect for the baby? Because I am throwing out everything I can't eat, I even couldn't drink and was in hospital last week, and the doctor said I have to take Raglan. I take the medicine now and I feel better but I'm worried for the baby.
Avatar m tn She fell asleep and I found a medicine bottle of Acyclovir on her sink counter when I went to use the bathroom. I asked her about the medicine and she flipped out. She stated she only had one bump on her vagina and she thought it was an ingrown hair, that females can't transmit the virus to males, blah, blah, blah. I am worried sick, what is the likelihood of transmission from her?
Avatar m tn You're on acyclovir for chemo? I'm assuming that you are taking it to help prevent mouth sores associated with the chemo? This is a tricky question for you. Ordinarily, there is about a 2-3% chance of a male getting hsv2 from a female over the course of a year when the female is using daily suppression, like Valtrex (this assumes sex 2-3x a week). However, you are on chemo, and your immune system may be compromised because of it.
Avatar m tn The amount you were prescribed is for a first herpes ob ( the full 10 days ). It's not a recurrence dose. The easiest way to use acyclovir for oral herpes is 800mg 3x/day for 2 days. It's not FDA approved as a dose but the literature backs it and it's become generally accepted as a dose ( acyclovir has been a generic for a long time so it's doubtful anyone is going to pay for the studies to go for fda approval of this dose ).
Avatar m tn Acyclovir doses for the last month of pregnancy are 400mg 3x/day. You need the higher doses because of the natural immunosuppression of pregnancy.
Avatar n tn Also one other question, Since people estimate the rate of hsv-2 in gay men is very high, what if I tested positive for hsv-2 and I slept with my boyfriend more? since he is positive and symptomatic and Im hypothetically positive but asymptomatic, would I have greater chances of breaking out and getting symptoms?
Avatar f tn I stopped taking acyclovir in December 2011. I have had numerous outbreaks like once a month or every couple of months. I have had HSV2 four years and four months now. My last outbreak was maybe eight weeks ago. Shouldn't my outbreaks decrease since I have had the virus for some time.I would like to know is that too many outbreaks to be experiencing.
Avatar m tn Hi there. I just learned I may have been exposed to HIV through unprotected anal sex, and I need to know my risk factors. Three nights ago I had sex with a HIV+ partner who neglected to tell me his status. I was the insertive partner (i.e. the Top), and had no blood exchange or rough sex. I also withdrew before orgasming. I was exposed to his semen, though only on my skin and had no open cuts or sores.
Avatar m tn I was adivsed to continue 400gm of acyclovir 2 a day and run the test again afeter 3 months. I was simultaneous also chekcing for ha1bc. after 3 months that is now, h1abc is great at 5.4, SGOT normal, liver no issues, cholestrol good. Only that again the igg values increased to 7.2 from 6.3. I am advised now to increase acyclovir dosage to 3 times a day and have levamisole hydrochloride 75 gms twice a week for another 3 months and check for HSV1 igg again.
Avatar n tn you need the higher doses during pregnancy because of the natural immunosuppression of the body. you should take it up until you deliver the baby in order for it to have any value. stopping it even a day before delivery would make it useless to use it since shedding can kick in that quickly. do you have to take suppressive valtrex during pregnancy? no you do not. it's entirely your choice.
Avatar m tn Wanting to know which is better for the purpose of decreasing chance that partner will become infected, use to decrease amount of asymptomatic shedding. Keep hearing only Valtrex does this, but someone on site suggested Acyclovir. Thanks in advance!
Avatar m tn It also sounds like you and your partner are in a monogamous relationship in which neither of you has other sexual partners. If this is the case, you can both be tested for a variety of STDs and, if the tests are negative, you have no reason for concern as long as you do not have other partners. The tests I would recommend in general for both of you are tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia at all sites of exposure (penis, rectum and throat) and blood tests for syphilis and HIV.
Avatar n tn I've had four outbreaks in one month since contracting this virus. I don't understand why my symptoms are so bad. I got herpes a little over a month ago from my boyfriend who "didn't know" because he never had or has symptoms. When he tested positive he was almost in denial because he just doesn't feel the effects. He drinks more than me, smokes, not really concerned about eating healthy....
Avatar n tn Ok if i took Valtrex once a day how many millagrams? If I take a medication every day of my life would the virus just get use to it and the suppressive theropy not be as effective??
