Avatar n tn The test strips that I use are 10LG Parameter Urine Reagent Strips which can be bought on line at a reasonable price. These strips detect Leukocytes, Nitrite, Urobilinogen, Protein, pH, Blood, Specific Gravity, Ketone, Bilirubin, Glucose. You can get strips that detect less. The one that would be of interest if someone is suffering from dehydration is the Specific Gravity reading.
Avatar m tn You can buy on line Urine Reagent Strips quite cheaply. There are some that test the urine just for glucose, but they do not give an accurate recording of how much sugar there is in the blood stream. These sticks are a good indicator, but they will only detect glucose in the urine if there is above a certain level (fairly high) of glucose in the urine. An HbA1c blood test shows average blood glucose levels over a sustained period (about a 3 month period).
Avatar m tn a liver disease that disturbs the normal passage of urobilinogen through the liver and gallbladder (viral hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, obstruction of the gallbladder by gallstones, etc. Or your doctor may look into a urobilinogen overload caused by the release of larger quantities of hemoglobin (destruction of a abnormally high number of red blood cells as in hemolytic anemia, pernicious anemia, etc.). When do you see your doctor or have you for follow up?
Avatar m tn Bilirubin, LDH, Direct Coombs Test, Indirect Coombs Test, Anti RBC Antibodies, Anti RBC antibodies titrenvd, CBC, Bilirubin in Urine, ESR, Creatinine, Urobilinogen, Hemaglobin, Hematocrit all seem to be fine, but Haptoglobin is <0.01 - completely depleted in three tests done in a week. No history or symptoms of anemia or haemolysis. 9 days ago Nitrofurantoin (200g a day for 5 days) was taken and daily birth control (Qlaira).
Avatar n tn But if you really did have something wrong like a gallstone or other bile blockage, then the urine test will remain constant in showing the problem on repeated tests. If you didn't have the strip stored properly, the testing chemicals on the strip will become compromised/contaminated and will give you the crazy results. Be sure your test strips are stored in a small, airtight container. And that you use a clean urine collection cup as well.
Avatar f tn I have been scared of ngu or some other form of infection. I have used multiply uti test strips which test white blood cell count in urine. None have been positive, one or two showed trace amount of wbc (I've taken about 18 tests). Would these show an infection (ngu) if one existed???
Avatar m tn I have had a couple of regular protected sexual encounters (just penetrative vaginal sex with condoms, no kissing or oral) with prostitutes over the past months my last encounter being exactly 3weeks ago, coincidentally i had a shot of hepatitis b vaccine from a local health center precisely 2weeks ago, afterwards, I started feeling joint aches (most severe in the groin of the lap where i got the shot), followed by mild fever and fatigue, I wanted to dismiss the symptoms as reaction from the v

Avatar f tn Uric acid is there and doc prescribed medicine. Everything else in urine test shows normal ( glucose, pH, bile, acetone, nitrates, urobilinogen, albumin etc) Swab test of discharge shows (gram stain ): Few pus cells, many epithelial cells, scanty Gram positive cocci and no structures Morphologicaly resembling neissera gonorrhoeae. Gonorrhea/chamyldia bac is gram negative. I didn't understand the above result. Is there any problem with my kidney or it is due to infection?
Avatar f tn Yes, a urine quick test can tell you if you have WBC, but not if you have gonorrhea, chlamydia, NGU or another infection that could be causing that. You need specific tests for that. If you have concerns about those, you need to let the doctor know so they can do specific tests.
Avatar n tn I again bought urine strips that detect blood only, and the strips shows non-hemolyzed trace only after drinking beer or coffee. If I drink a glass of water with a tsp of baking soda, the test strips come out negative. I guess my question is "is it harmful to drink a glass of baking soda water daily?", or should I return to the doctor and go thru kidney x-rays, cystoscopy, etc again? I really hate to give up my coffe ...
