Common Questions and Answers about Urine test strips infection

Avatar f tn I have been scared of ngu or some other form of infection. I have used multiply uti test strips which test white blood cell count in urine. None have been positive, one or two showed trace amount of wbc (I've taken about 18 tests). Would these show an infection (ngu) if one existed???
Avatar f tn Yes, a urine quick test can tell you if you have WBC, but not if you have gonorrhea, chlamydia, NGU or another infection that could be causing that. You need specific tests for that. If you have concerns about those, you need to let the doctor know so they can do specific tests.
Avatar n tn I frequently use urine test strips to test my urine when I feel unwell that may be waterwork problem. Have had kidney stone surgically removed in the past. Nitrite on the stick will mean that it is a bladder problem - usually Cystitis. Positive leucocyte reading on the stick with or without signs of protein, usually means that there is a bacterial infection. If the doctor said you have a uti (urinary tract infection) this is anywhere from the kidneys down.
Avatar n tn I check my urine at home with Chem Strips to check for protein. About a month ago I noticed nitrates were testing positive on the strips (Only +first morning urine), I had no symptoms of a UTI and I did nothing. Then a few days ago my urine appeared green and was testing for blood, leukocytes, protein (I always have this), and still the nitrates(Now positive at any time of day tested). I then began having urgency issues as well as right side flank pain. I went to the Dr.
Avatar f tn I did have a urine test at the hosp which came back with pus in my urine. I then had a culture done which came back multiply bacteria which they said was contaminated ??? So I went back to family dr yesterday who told me to stay on the pills and when I'm done to go get another urine test.
Avatar f tn I'm 25 weeks pregnant. At around 19 weeks, after having urethral pain for 2 weeks, I went to the ER as i was certain I did have a UTI, even though my doctor dismissed my symptoms and told me the leukocytes and bacteria found were from contamination. I was in considerably more pain that same night so headed to the ER where they confirmed I had a UTI and put me on cephalexin. I took it for 4 days until I started having diarrhea.
Avatar f tn Well not much more to tell you, not related to the oral sex since it was protected. Sounds more like simple irritation or anxiety. Doing these strips yourself is not going to tell you anything, see a Dr.
Avatar f tn You can always buy test strips at target or pharmacy. PH strips you can test the discharge and it will tell you if its just urine or amniotic fluid.
Avatar n tn Im in the UK and it seems the first step is the urine test according to my NHS walk in centre but you can ask for the blood test straight away if your really worried....but I think that depends on any symptoms. Ive heard different opinions on the urine test though, I have been told that its no good by one or two people but then afew others have said its fine for an intial check. Ive had a urine test and it was ok so Im just curious, as it was clear is that it? am I clear for diabetes? thanks.
Avatar n tn But if you really did have something wrong like a gallstone or other bile blockage, then the urine test will remain constant in showing the problem on repeated tests. If you didn't have the strip stored properly, the testing chemicals on the strip will become compromised/contaminated and will give you the crazy results. Be sure your test strips are stored in a small, airtight container. And that you use a clean urine collection cup as well.
Avatar f tn This gas has a smell of rotten eggs. You can test its presence by test strips available OTC. If this is positive and you have smell of rotten eggs in urine then you need to cut down food items that contain sulfites. Most of this gas comes from sulfites a person consumes, which is a part of all preservatives. Sulfites are present in all juices, molasses, yellow dye in ready made food stuffs, and red wine.
Avatar m tn Now what is with these test strips showing blood in my urine every time I get checked at the clinic ? Should I be concerned ?
Avatar n tn The test strips that I use are 10LG Parameter Urine Reagent Strips which can be bought on line at a reasonable price. These strips detect Leukocytes, Nitrite, Urobilinogen, Protein, pH, Blood, Specific Gravity, Ketone, Bilirubin, Glucose. You can get strips that detect less. The one that would be of interest if someone is suffering from dehydration is the Specific Gravity reading.
Avatar n tn This could also be a sign that you have a urinary tract infection. You can be tested for this at your doctors office or you can purchase test strips at your local drug store. They usually have them at the pharmacy and no prescrition is required. If you do have a urinary tract infection, your doctor will prescribe a 3 day course of antibiotics. I would try drinking more water and cranberry juice and see if this helps. If not, see your doctor.
Avatar f tn Honestly I keep a bottle of the UA test strips on hand and check my urine at home frequently. I also have no insurance, often have chronic uti's and so it just makes sense to do so. You can order a bottle of 100 strips through Pulmolab , the generic one run around $30 with shipping i believe. HOWEVER, right now it is very hard for an IC patient to tell the difference since a flare feels so much like a uti.
Avatar m tn You can buy on line Urine Reagent Strips quite cheaply. There are some that test the urine just for glucose, but they do not give an accurate recording of how much sugar there is in the blood stream. These sticks are a good indicator, but they will only detect glucose in the urine if there is above a certain level (fairly high) of glucose in the urine. An HbA1c blood test shows average blood glucose levels over a sustained period (about a 3 month period).
Avatar n tn I again bought urine strips that detect blood only, and the strips shows non-hemolyzed trace only after drinking beer or coffee. If I drink a glass of water with a tsp of baking soda, the test strips come out negative. I guess my question is "is it harmful to drink a glass of baking soda water daily?", or should I return to the doctor and go thru kidney x-rays, cystoscopy, etc again? I really hate to give up my coffe ...
Avatar f tn They did not send the urine to a lab. I do not have an infection as the urine strips test for leukocytes (which are fighting infection cells)..
Avatar n tn or, you could buy some AZO infection test strips at your local pharmacy. They test for nitrate and white blood cells in your urine and tell you if you have an infection or not. If no infection is present, I would suggest seeing a chiropractor. Hope I helped.
Avatar n tn here there are three rapid strips determine, stat pak and unigold rapid test strips so the determine test strip for 2 years has been reacting the rest of the strips which are taken to be confirmatory test strips never react. If you read the original post you will get the whole history. So someone told me its highly sensitive to any viral infection but then again I asked whats that infection. No answer was given. My CBC results are all in range showing no presence of a virus.
Avatar f tn Hi! I have used Clinical Guard ovulation strips, and they work. But I just discovered some called BFP, they make ovulation & pregnancy test strips, and they are super accurate and easy to read. They're my new "go-to" brand. I buy off of Amazon. Good luck! & lots of baby dust!
Avatar m tn Unprotected oral second void, maybe 1/2 ounce wasted then in the cup NAAT,, male is this an accurate test? Potential prostate swollen and frequent urination?

Avatar f tn He did a quick test of urine (I guess with the urine test strips) and said it was normal. Then he asked me if STD was a possibility and I said could be due to my brothel visit. He has put me on amoxicillin 1000mg twice a day for 5 days. He told me to visit a urologist if there is still no relief. With this information, could you kindly provide your advice on my questions below. 1.
Avatar f tn A doctor testing your urine by using urine reagent strips would also be able to see if you have an infection. And would prescribe you with an antibiotic. Laboratory tests are more specific which bacteria is causing the problem and which antibiotic is suitable.
Avatar f tn It honestly can come and go and you can actually test for BLD yourself with the diagnostic test strips "GP Mulistix" by either bayer or siemens (25 tests in one tube) along with nitrates and leucocytes, protein etc Theres no restrictions on the public buying these - though they are not super cheap (£10- £14 as a guide in the UK as a guide for 25) Mild Kidney infections can show a trace of blood - see if this is a "one off" then if it contines daily take action according to wh
