( cant find any. My urine test was done at a labratory not in the doctors office.

The test strips that I use are 10LG Parameter Urine Reagent Strips which can be bought on line at a reasonable price. These strips detect Leukocytes, Nitrite, Urobilinogen, Protein, pH, Blood, Specific Gravity, Ketone, Bilirubin, Glucose. You can get strips that detect less. The one that would be of interest if someone is suffering from dehydration is the Specific Gravity reading.

I am unsure about what I have, but I can tell you that when I tested my blood sugar, after fasting (14 hours), it was about 124, but then I realized the test strips were expired. I went to the doctor and the found a high amount of protein in my urine, and also ketones, but no sugar in. (I was tested about two hours after a large meal too, so the ketones were not out of starvation, and I do not exercise.) They have always seen protein in my urine also.

You can buy on line Urine Reagent Strips quite cheaply. There are some that test the urine just for glucose, but they do not give an accurate recording of how much sugar there is in the blood stream. These sticks are a good indicator, but they will only detect glucose in the urine if there is above a certain level (fairly high) of glucose in the urine. An HbA1c blood test shows average blood glucose levels over a sustained period (about a 3 month period).

Im in the UK and it seems the first step is the urine test according to my NHS walk in centre but you can ask for the blood test straight away if your really worried....but I think that depends on any symptoms. He said I could have breakfast like two eggs and so i did maybe that made my test high.....Now I have to make an appt. for the 3hour glucose test.....I hope I don't have gestational diabetes that scares me....I have never had that with my other pregnancies....I'm scared! What happenes when you do have diabetes? Does it go away after birth? What should I do before taking this other test? Can someone advise? Thanks!

In googling "blood glucose test strips", I found several websites which offered test strips and glucometers at varying prices (ie.http://www.diabetesnet.com/test_strips.php). Since your cat is going to need lifelong care, it will pay for you to shop around.

Why not buy a pack of urine reagent test strips that you can use to test your urine for protein. A pack of 100 strips can be had for not too much money ($12.00 to around $50 depending on the brand). Find them through Google. Then if you see that you do have protein in your urine, you could use the strip as evidence to show your primary doctor that you need a referral to a nephrologist. I like the idea of using strips for testing at different times of day.

My friend had high levels of protein in her urine. She had to do a 24 pee test, the doctors told her she got the protein from eating to many bananas and the high levels of potassium are what did it for her. You may just have to much of that, but I would follow up with your doc!

Protein in urine discovered on a microalbumin test may often be the earliest sign of diabetic kidney damage. Have you seen a Nephralogist to rule kidney issues or renal pathway infection? I frequently use urine test strips to test my urine when I feel unwell that may be waterwork problem. Have had kidney stone surgically removed in the past. Nitrite on the stick will mean that it is a bladder problem - usually Cystitis. Positive leucocyte reading on the stick with or without signs of protein, usually means that there is a bacterial infection. If the doctor said you have a uti (urinary tract infection) this is anywhere from the kidneys down.

Testing the urine is one way to check for ketones. You can pick up urine test strips at your local drug store. Just follow the instruction to do the test. If I remember right if the test strip turnes pick you have ketones in your urine, plus the strip tells you if there is blood, glucose, and a couple other things. Hi, I am a 16 year old girl, whom is 5'3,and weigh about 96 pounds. I just went to see the doctor, and like always, they said I had a bit of ketones and about 300g of protein in my urine. They didn't test my blood sugar, but I know my fasting glucose level is around the 126 range. Though there was no sugar in my urine, I am still afraid I might be showing signs of diabetes, but no one believes me. I also have a high blood pressure. Any help would be great. Thanks!

I have been monitoring my urine with 10-Parameter test strips. The last few days I have had a lot of blood in my urine (looks like diluted Heinz ketchup). Whereas everything else (except for high specific gravity) was ok previously, the protein has showed from + to ++. If this due to there being more blood?
