Im in the UK and it seems the first step is the urine test according to my NHS walk in centre but you can ask for the blood test straight away if your really worried....but I think that depends on any symptoms. Ive heard different opinions on the urine test though, I have been told that its no good by one or two people but then afew others have said its fine for an intial check. Ive had a urine test and it was ok so Im just curious, as it was clear is that it? am I clear for diabetes? thanks.

in blood glucose readings, does that mean my 79 random blood glucose test is A LOT higher than that? And if I WAS fasting for that exam (it was a few months ago, believe it might have been a morning appointment), what does that mean in terms of the false decrease? Does anyone have any realistic/substanial evidence/knowledge on this?

P.S. Thank you for the test levels. I thought that booklet was wrong that I got. It was a free thing, and who knows when it was published. So, under 140. I am getting under 130 actually so I guess I'm doing pretty well. I also know that can get worse as I get older, so I have to keep watching those carbs!!

I am a type 2 diabetic and recently lost my job and my health insurance, I have not been able to afford to get my medicines and my blood glucose levels have been horrible, I ran out of glucose strips about a month and a half ago and they were running in the high 300's and even into the 400's. One portiion of the physical is they take a urine sample to check for sugar. My test did not reveal sugar/glucose in the urine. The test strips that I use are 10LG Parameter Urine Reagent Strips which can be bought on line at a reasonable price. These strips detect Leukocytes, Nitrite, Urobilinogen, Protein, pH, Blood, Specific Gravity, Ketone, Bilirubin, Glucose. You can get strips that detect less. The one that would be of interest if someone is suffering from dehydration is the Specific Gravity reading.

I'm familiar with Bayer Ascensia Contour meters as they need no coding, the strips are good for 6 months [180 days]. Ensure your fingertip is clean b4 testing. Micro contamination can skewer your results. Here are the proper test times and glucose levels assuming you're in the US. I have included A1c test levels too. As you will see your last fasting test time was a bit premature.

I did something really dumb today and now I'm scared. I was unclogging a toilet when some of the water splashed my hands. I have open wounds on my hands. When I looked down into the toilet I saw some used blood glucose test strips. I didn't see any blood. I immediately washed my hands with plenty of soap. About 1-3 minutes later I washed my hands again 3 times. About 10 minutes after that I washed my hands twice more and disinfected them with alcohol.

is this necessary? do i need the glucose test if my blood sugar test came back just fine??? thanks for the help !

ok i have recently taken a urine test because i had some kind of uti they said there was a very high abnormal range of glucose in my urine but when i came back the next day they gave me a blood suger test which was normal does anyone know what may have caused the high glucose in my urine?

Most women are seen between 8-12 weeks for their first OB appointment. You should get a blood test then for the STDs and viruses. The glucose test, in the USA, is done in the 2nd trimester though (I think week 26 or so).

They did not send the urine to a lab. I do not have an infection as the urine strips test for leukocytes (which are fighting infection cells)..

ya i ate the usual heavy lunch really rich in carb(wheat flour bread.,fried potatoes refined oil to name a few )....and the testing was not done at home but went to a lab where my blood and urine checked for sugar.....blood 104 and urine -NIL result.
