Avatar m tn I fully understand that identifying either pathogen requires specific test, but can standard urine test at least signal any potential bacterial infection? Also, if my Doctor tells me I have a low grade UTI, would STD possibly fall into that category? Would an STI that is causing me this much discomfort not show up in urine test or only be considered a low grade UTI?
Avatar n tn I check my urine at home with Chem Strips to check for protein. About a month ago I noticed nitrates were testing positive on the strips (Only +first morning urine), I had no symptoms of a UTI and I did nothing. Then a few days ago my urine appeared green and was testing for blood, leukocytes, protein (I always have this), and still the nitrates(Now positive at any time of day tested). I then began having urgency issues as well as right side flank pain. I went to the Dr.
Avatar m tn I then decided to do a home uti I test and it shown that I had a WBC in urine and no nitrates. From research, Nitrates is a bacterial infection. I have tested negative for chlamydia and Gonnerrhea. Being that I have a WBC in urine meaning an infection in the body or urinary tract could this be a sign of Trich? I took AZO cranberry tablets and the symptoms are now gone so this morning I decided do another strip and it is faint purple . What could this be?
Avatar f tn I recently went for my annual exam and my urine test came back with trace blood. They sent it off to the lab and it came back negative for everything except for trace blood. I have no symptoms of a UTI or anything like that. I have been told by several people that this can be normal! But the dr wants me to go to a urologist anyway. I'm racking my brain trying to figure out why there is blood. I'm a healthy 32 yeast old female with bad anxiety over this.
Avatar f tn Took left over macrodantin that I had from my cystoscopy and have found little/no relief. but when i took another home uti test it was negative for nitrates but positive for wbc. I am hesitant to go to the doctor because every dr i go to tells me im fine and tries to send me to another doctor. could it be a uti or ic or something completley different please help!
Avatar f tn I haven’t had any symptoms for any STI/STD’s however due to majorly overthinking it and being overly aware of any slight ‘feeling’ down there I decided to buy an over the counter urinalysis dipstick test. The results showed that I had traces of Nitrites in my urine, which can be an indicator for infection from my understanding. No reading at all for Leukocyte Etrase (which would indicate an active infection) or Protein however. What does this mean?
Avatar n tn I went back today for a follow-up and submitted to a urinalysis and was told that the Nitrates in my urine which were negative 2 weeks ago are now positive. The MD seemed a little concerned and told me to continue on the Septra and that they would test the urine with a Chyl/Gonn culture again. I have not seen any other types of STD symptoms, (no discharge, sore throat or problems ejaculating) my left testicle was a little sensitive to touch but outright pain.
Avatar n tn And EVERY Time I take an at home UTI test the Leukocytes are as positive as can get with no nitrates....But Everyone says no uti....Feels like one though....Can the leuokocytes be high in your urine with no nitrates & still be infection? Im also running a low grade fever.. Thanks so much for your input!!!! Goodluck with your pain as well...I HATE to feel bad!! ugh!!!!
Avatar m tn Saw my doctor because terrible irritation in penis tip, sore testicles and having to urinate all night. No burning when I pee or discharge but significant pain at tip. Doctor did first catch urine test; neg for leuk & nitrates, said it could be prostatis so he gave me 7 days of Cipro. Had a minor surgery a few days later so did not take it. The next week it got even worse, so went to urologist. Same symptoms but worse. Dr. asked if it could be std, I told him I doubt it...
Avatar f tn However, all urine samples show no growth/or are clear with the exception of one that showed nitrates-yet the next day no nitrates showed and it was chalked up to being a false positive. I just don't know what to think. Could this be interstitial cystitis? What should I do? I can even see a urologist until next month.
Avatar f tn At day 3, I had a pee on two 10 parameter urine test dipsticks which the results were normal. One of the expert doctors on this website (expert doctor forum) said that the standard urine dipsticks can detect bacterial infections in 2 out of 3 men however can not diagnosis what the infections are. I was tested clean from STDs/HIV six months ago, I had no sex since then besides with that lady one time event. Questions- 1- whats my STD/HIV risk?
Avatar m tn Around 2 months ago I had unprotected sex with a girl, had no symptoms all this time, but just over a week after I had sex with her I was on a course of heavy antibiotics for h.ployri bacterial infection, so I was taking 2000mg of amoxicillin a day and 1500mg of clarithromycin (bactrim) for a course of 7 days. The girl I had sex with contacted me yesterday to tell me she has been diagnosed with chlamydia. If I did catch this first of all would this medication have cured me?
Avatar f tn asked if I had any symptoms of a UTI which I have not. He told me that there were nitrates showing up in my urine but no other sign of infection and sent me to the hospital to get another urinalysis. No one has called me with any results yet. What could be causing nitrates in my urine aside from a UTI???
Avatar m tn 12 days ago I had protected oral and vaginal intercourse with a csw. After vaginal intercourse I removed the condo em and masturbated myself, just wondering if I had some of her vaginal secretions on my hand am I at risk of any std's. 6 days after started having some symtoms some burning after urination not during.
Avatar f tn Uric acid is there and doc prescribed medicine. Everything else in urine test shows normal ( glucose, pH, bile, acetone, nitrates, urobilinogen, albumin etc) Swab test of discharge shows (gram stain ): Few pus cells, many epithelial cells, scanty Gram positive cocci and no structures Morphologicaly resembling neissera gonorrhoeae. Gonorrhea/chamyldia bac is gram negative. I didn't understand the above result. Is there any problem with my kidney or it is due to infection?
Avatar f tn i took a sample, which unfortuneately, was clear to the docs. She did a dipstick test and found extremely high levels of nitrates in it. she has given me some anti biotics and sent the rest of the sample for further testing. Some websites say that blood and no pain could mean cancer?? otehrs say kidney infections? its just soooo extreme and its bothering me. im 30 years old and just need to know what it could poss mean? is it anything to wory about? and can it get fixed?
Avatar f tn For the last 3 months I have had tissue in my urine. Lately the tissue had come out as long as an inch. I have taken a home UTI test. It comes up postive for WBC and negative for nitrates. I took a course of Bactrim DS and it didnt help. I am hoping its no reason to see the doctor since i dont have pain. Any suggestions? Thank you!
Avatar f tn I am a 33 years old, I have been consistently getting UTI's since my late twenties. My sister seems to easily and often get them too, her docter told her to stay away from caffeine. My UTI's often follow sex and sometimes follow episodes of constipation and stomache upset. This isn't my main issue though, I seem to constantly test positive for a high white blood cell count, even when I don't test positive for nitrates, this is even when I don't have symptoms of a UTI.
Avatar n tn No real syptoms only the thought of getting an std. Results came all negative but showed few bacteria in urine and in the reference value came nonesene. Shall I be woried? Lukocites came negative nitrates negative all negative except that. Please help!
Avatar n tn Urine is high in nitrates, compounds high in nitrogen and oxygen. Ammonia is made up of nitrogen and hydrogen. (NH3) What you are smelling is the high concentration of bonded nitrogen. Normally, diluted urine doesn't have much odor. If you're dehydrated and your urine becomes highly concentrated, it can have a strong ammonia smell.
Avatar f tn Her dr examined her and didnt think it was yeast infection. We did urine test and it showed enterococcus bacteria. We’ve since been on 1 round of nitrofurantoin and 2 rounds of cipro (first a 7 day and then a 10 day). She’s had no other symptoms but itching. We go back for urine test in am and I’m sure she still has the bacteria as she is itching. All the tests showed either a small amount or moderate amount of blood but all tests were negative for nitrates and leukocytes.
Avatar f tn I took her to the dr but with the urine test they found leukocytes but no nitrates. She looked kind of concerned. She said that my daughter had a yeast infection because of the bubble baths. Her concerned look is what is scaring me. What else could it be? Can a urine test show leukocytes when it is a yeast infection?
Avatar n tn i had blood and nitrates which showed up in urine when tested by dipstick went to gp she dipstick tested and the same showed up urine was sent to lab and the results came back negative why!
Avatar f tn On Tues I saw a urologist who did an internal and urine sample and culture. He said that everything seemed normal, no cysts, no blood, no nitrates, nothing. By Thurs my back pain had become ridiculous so I went to my regular doc who said I did have some traces but that I should be fine and thought my back pain was something unrelated and sent me for xrays (which I haven't gotten the results from yet).
Avatar n tn The urine routine also tested for nitrates and bilirubin and they are absent too. The urine specfic gravity and pH are normal too. This test however does not check Calcium levels. The 24 hour test says that over a 24 hour period my kidneys let out 25.5 mg of protein in 1.5 litres of urine. I was measured my fluid intake on the day of test to be 1.0 litre. Also since I am not presenting with any oedema and my BP is normal the doc thinks no further tests are needed.
Avatar m tn I have no abnormal discharge or blood in my urine. I used an Azo test strip and the result was mildly positive for leukocytes & negative for nitrates. I have not yet seen a doctor as these symptoms are still recent, but I'm concerned about chlamydia/gonorrhea. Could anyone help me get a better idea of which is more likely that I'm dealing with?
Avatar n tn When I see trace on the leukocytes, the first thing I usually think is that it was not a clean catch. Believe it or not, urine is actually a sterile body fluid. It is only as it leaves your body that it gets exposed to elements that can show up in a urinalysis. Leukocytes are another name for white blood cells. When these are present either with or without the nitrates, it can indicate an infection.
