Here is some surprising info. The urine test the Veterans Admin uses to "test people for the Fentanyl Patch use, does not test for the drug. It is a dummy test. They expect you to pop negative results for Opiods. Since Fentanyl is a synthetic derivative it will not test sensitive to the test. They would have to run a more expensive Immuno Assay test (Spelling?). They do the test to make sure you are not taking another prescription drug not prescribed by their doctors.....

I have been going to a ct pain management for 5 years. I have never failed a urine test. I take 10mg oxycodone and in April my test came back as having fentanyl in it. The rpn said since I never failed a test she was going to have me do a saliva test. She also said that if fentanyl she’s up again she would not be able to give me my oxy. Ihave a appt with the dr next week. I am scared.

It depends on the test that is being used and that the assay cutoff is for that particular test. The test for Fentanyl is specific to look for that drug and a normalized value can be detected usually 3-4 days after. You were given such a small dose IV, it may have been a much shorter time span.

They said it is extremely difficult to detect fentanyl in saliva and that these tests are not normally used for fentanyl patch users. They said urine tests are much more reliable and that I should have been given a urine test in their opinion. I made a mistake with my calendar. I'm supposed to change patch every 3 days, but I forgot and didn't replace my patch until later on the 4th. I had a random drug screen that is a urine test that gets sent to a lab so its pretty thorough and I tested positive for fentanyl 3 months after i used last. Is there any explanation for this. Its been driving me crazy and its the first time i have beem clean in 2 years and of course no one at the clinic believes which I dont know if I would believe someone either so I understand the skepticism but I am very scared why this would happen. I have a script for 10 mg vicodin but ran out and friend let ke take a 5mg oxy for my pain till script coupd be refilled...i then took a urine test..both meds re a class 2 schedule so will the urine test know the difference?

Apparently, the Fentanyl was not showing up in the office quick test. The office quick narcotic tests do not test for Fentanyl...my pharmascist told . Thxs much for the info on the antibiotics. I to had all my teeth pulled and broke my ankle clear thru and the bones in the top of my foot. It has been a nightmare. Thought I would get it all done while layed up for 6-8 months. also had posts put in my mouth. Of course both foot Dr and dentist put me on antibiotics. No one at my pharmacy said a word about it either. So glad I didn't have to have any test while on them by my PMD. I am on 75 of the Fentanyl for about a year.

I have had the same doctor for 3 years, she put me on Fentanyl 25 every 72 hours and 4 norco 5/325 for break through pain. A month later, she upped the Fentanyl to 50 mcgs every 72 hours due to pain coming through even with the norcos. A month later, she upped it to the Fentanyl 75 mcg every 72 hours. A month later she upped it to Fentanyl 100 mcgs every 72 hours. That is where she stopped. I have been on that same dosage now for 2 years.

It seems that this happens a lot, people having false negatives with urine tests. Can you ask them for a blood test? I'm not sure what you should do but at the very least, you need to start calling other pain management doctors/clinics. I am going to get off the Fentanyl patches and put on Methadone using Suboxone as a bridge .I have never heard of this med called Suboxone.I am on 200mcg of Fentanyl how long will it take to get off the fentanyl?

My current PCM, who is begrudgingly providing me with Oral Morphine for Breakthru pain and Duragesic Brand Fentanyl Patches for ongoing pain control. i also told him this **** happens to me all the time when i relapse, so i spit in the urine. Yet the test never showed up for opiods. This happens every time i relapse and i am incorrectly given wrong tapering meds to deal with withdrawls. I am also an insulin dependant diabetic since the age of 3. someone told me that diabetics rapidly process chemicals in the body and this is the reason for it happening. im still baffled by this and why my tests always show up negative.
