905502 tn?1245176370 I am doing the 11PM - 8 AM dex suppression test, 24 hour urine, and midnight saliva test for Cushings. Seems they are all fairly unreliable. My dr. has ordered eacha few times. Maybe this time they will come back with something. Good luck Jab!
751340 tn?1233496117 If a dog has all the symptoms of cushing's yet the diagnostic tests (ACTH stimulation test and LDDS) are negative for cushing's, then it is a very good possibility that the dog has atypical cushing's. Typical or naturally occurring cushing's involves excess cortisol whereas atypical cushing's involves excess intermediate/sex hormones. Atypical cushing's can cause the same physical symptoms, same abnormalities on bloodwork and same organ abnormalities seen on imaging.
Avatar f tn MRIs of the pituitary have to be done correctly too - it is called dynamic. So if they took you out of the machine to give you the contrast, then the scan was not a proper pit scan. Here is a summary of a paper just published: "High Prevalence of Normal Tests Assessing Hypercortisolism in Subjects with Mild and Episodic Cushing's Syndrome Suggests that the Paradigm for Diagnosis and Exclusion of Cushing's Syndrome Requires Multiple Testing.
4332950 tn?1352950884 Hi! So, I went to my college health center about 2 months ago. I was dieting (1200 cal/day) and exercising regularly for 3 1/2 months, but I just keep gaining weight. I am always tired, I have really bad headaches OFTEN, and I get dizzy a lot.
Avatar f tn No problem. :) I've had the dexamethasone suppression test when Cushing's was suspected. My results were normal and my symptoms are actually due to severe insulin resistance. WebMD - Cortisol in Urine: "High values: * One cause of Cushing's syndrome is Cushing's disease, a condition caused by a noncancerous tumor of the pituitary gland (adenoma).
Avatar f tn My Boxer has been diagnosed with Cushing's disease and has been on Trilostane for about 3 weeks. The vet has done one urine cortisol test which showed increased levels of cortisol but there was a tiny increase in urine concentration though still dilute. There was a tooth root abscess that was also being treated at the time of the test so the vet wants to do the test in a couple more weeks since the infection could cause the increase in urine cortisol.
Avatar f tn The urine test is normal. However, one urine test is not diagnostic for most doctors - aka good doctors. The dex test shows suppression. For an expert, it can show either normal or that if you showed issues, it would be pituitary location. It is rather odd that you took 1.0 dex - most take the low dose dex test which is .5 to start. The lab reference does apply for this test since you took the dex. You are testing for Cushing's?
1632656 tn?1310693271 Ok,, I was wondering if any one else has had similar test results,, I went in to see my doctor and she told me she thought I had Cushing's,, due to my rapid weight gain, buffalo hump, and my bloodwork,, I guess my Cortisol was High at 26.5 ( A.M) and high Glucose 105, low calcium, low protein and low red blood cell count. All done at 8 AM after 12 hour fast. so,, I was wondering if any one else had similiar test results and or symptoms and was it indeed Cushing's.
Avatar f tn You need to get the doctor to test ACTH and cortisol - and probably saliva testing would work for your husband so he can test at different times to catch the highs. I would also check out renin and aldosterone - those play a part in blood pressure. I know I got really weird things with mine - including a bleeding disorder and my immune system just went away and I was sick all the time. Everyone is different - some people get soft bones, some sick, some crazy...
Avatar m tn I'm a 19 year old male, that feels like a 13 year-old boy sometimes... Blood work and Urine Tests are below...
Avatar f tn You *failed* the test for most - in that you suppressed. The range given is not for the test, it is for the normal test. The lab does not print the range for suppression. In the US the cut off is 1.8. I had the cyclical form of Cushing's myself and failed all the dex suppression tests. I still had Cushing's - pituitary source. Pituitary source is more common than adrenal.

Avatar f tn My blood cortisol level is high. My doctor ordered a 24 hour urine test. I am currently taking fluconazole tablets & miconozole cream for a yeast infection. Also, I used topical cortisone cream on my face yesterday. I plan to collect the urine tomorrow. Will any of this interfere with the results? Thank you!
Avatar m tn s and is sending me to an endo for more testing. I am also being sent to an neuromuscular specialist for more follow up test including another emg. Does anybody know if Cushing's Syndrome causes muscle twitching? I am hoping it is related to Cushing's rather than a more serious neurological or muscle disease!
Avatar f tn I am having severe symptoms. I have severe intolerance to stress and very low blood pressure along with hyper pigmentation and a lot of other symptoms. I have to get infusions three days a week for my low blood pressure and dehydration. I just got my results back from my test yesterday and am confused about them. My doctor called me yesterday and told me my cortisol is low. My cortisol blood test shows my level to be 3.4. I had a midnight saliva test that was high.
Avatar f tn This is likely PCOS, but Cushings needs to be tested -- usually a 24 hour urine collection for urine free cortisol will detect Cushings. Your primary could order this.
1110676 tn?1265812109 A general blood cortisol test is a average of the whole day and is not the most accurate. A urine adrenal test is more accurate. And the 24 hour, 4 point saliva test is good to get, as it shows different times of the day, very valuable. Should have higher readings in the morning then tapers off, but still in range. There is a separate adrenal forum on this med help site too. So are you hypothyroid? - did not say.
1555334 tn?1294412732 You have been so helpful, St Barts is a long way from us, but I have also checked out specialists here. The last one was a professor, who said he 'suspected' that I don't have Cushing's due to the 'normal tests', but he cannot account for all my symptoms. If I could send you a picture of me before I got ill, you wouldn't believe how much I have changed. Me and my mom have had to do all the work, chasing up tests, demanding more, it isn't fair.
Avatar n tn Look up Cushing's syndrome. I have some links in the health pages - some of the information may help you. Make sure to keep the jug cold the entire time. Capture everything. One test does not rule it in or out.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm new here and just have a question or two for anyone who might be able to give me any direction. Recently my Dr. ran blood work and informed me that my ACTH levels were high at 63 (9-52 range.) The draw was at 1:00 in the afternoon, rather than the typical 8am, so wouldn't that mean that my actual level would be higher? My cortisol was 8.9 at that time, is that high as well? I don't have a range for that.
Avatar f tn By way of background I have typical cushings symptoms but my early labs including 24 hour urine were normal. So of course doctors have been dismissive. I had a brain MRI for tinnitus and convinced the radiologist to include the pituitary and a microadenoma was found. Now doctors are taking me seriously thank goodness. I had a an ACTH stimulation test a couple of days ago and these are the results posted online: Base cortisol 42.0 30 min cortisol 26.0 60 min 49.
