Avatar f tn This is more of a comment than a question. I just want people to know that a blood test does exist to help in the diagnosis of autism. It is brand new and being developed. I don't know much about it other than what my doctor has told me in reference to my autistic seven-year-old son. After many blood tests, his geneticist discovered he is missing part of his 2 chromosome which, in studies, has been linked to autism. Any thoughts?????
470168 tn?1237471245 On the news recently (in the UK) it has said that they are closer to having a pre-natal test to diagnose autism, and that they are also close to achieving hormone treatment for the foetus prior to birth so that the brain is less masculine. I think it is widely agreed that high levels of the male hormone during pregnancy can give a greater inclination towards autism.

Avatar f tn You could also have a look on the Health Page, which you can access through the Health Page icon. I have posted the DSM IV diagnostic criteria for autism and some parents have posted examples of their childrens' behaviour to give examples of behaviours that meet the criteria. Have you asked for your son to be evaluated? Or are you thinking that altering the diet might improve some of the 'autistic' behaviours?

Avatar m tn I was a little shocked to have all these doctors present for a straight forward hearing test and the test did not happen like i would have expected. Avatar m tn If one looks at the history of treatment of young children with autism, one finds a long list of treatments that have been espoused to be the next cure for autism. Many of these treatments have been embraced with no scientific evidence to back them up.

Avatar f tn There is no genetic test for autism. Only time will tell if your son is autistic. With 2 uncles on the spectrum, your son's chances for autism are probably slightly higher than someone with no autism in their family but I don't think the odds are anything too monumental. You should just relax and enjoy your son. Autistic or not, he's only little once. If he is autistic, you will see the signs by 18 months or so and you can worry about giving him siblings after that.
Avatar m tn I was wondering if there were any promising Stem Cell Therapies for Autism. I have the stem cells stored for both of my autistic children ages 3 and 6.

Avatar f tn My doctor has an assistant, not a nurse, who assists her with checking patient vitals, etc. the assistant makes frequent demands for a urine test...4 in the last 8 months which seem excessive to me. She gets quite testy if I am unable to comply and has left an unpleasant message on my phone once. Today she brought me a full paper cup of water and insisted I drink it. Am I legally required to submit to these tests? Is there a certain number of urine tests required per year?
Avatar f tn Do you know if your brother in law has autism caused by Fragile X (easy to test via a simple bloss test) ? If so, that type of autism (which is a minority of the cases) is passed to the child by the mother. If he has autism caused by fragile X but you yourself do not carry the fragile X chromosome, you probably will not have a child with autism. You need to see a genetic specialist. Do your research and go ask the questions.
Avatar f tn hi his wetting is all day i took him to gp to test his urine and all is clear and we were told its the side affect from his new medication risperidol so talked with his specialist and he has taken him off of it and is going to put him back on methylphenidate
Avatar f tn Have you thought about getting a referral from her pediatrician to get her tested for autism? If she does have autism, the diagnosis open's new doors. ABA seems to be the route that most parents of children with autism go. I have heard alot of great things about ABA but haven't tried it yet because of costs. There is also floor time and some others I can't think of at the moment.

6583170 tn?1385317938 There is no real link between MMR vaccine and autism. The only thing that was a cause for concern with childhood vaccinations was a mercury based preservative called Thimerosal. Studies Even showed that that didn't even have a direct link with an increased chance of autism developing in children but just to be safe the FDA banned it from being used in childhood vaccinations. I believe by 2001, if not earlier, all childhood vaccinations no longer contained that ingredient.
