Avatar m tn Possibly an overactive one.. a high TSH level indicates underactive thyroid, while low TSH levels indicate an overactive one. These are questions you should discuss with your doctor. The symptoms you are experiencing must be accounted for as well.
Avatar f tn Fatigue and general feeling of illness are common symptoms of low thyroid activity. Usually with low thyroid, the body temp is low, whereas with a fever, it would be high. I know that fatigue and general feeling of illness are also common symptoms of both "overactive" thyroid, but not sure about the fever.
Avatar n tn rapid weight gain, extreme fatigue, dry skin. i have been taking 75 mcg levothyroxine for the past 6 month . when my doctor told me that the bloodtest now showed an OVERACTIVE thryroid, i was in complete shock. does anyone here have any experience with this? how can it happen that my levels state an overactive thryoid, when everything i experience tells me the contrary? my doctor looked at me like she didn't believe me. i am really desperate and would be happy about any help.
Avatar n tn You said you were diagnosed with overactive thyroid, then normal, then underactive... were you diagnosed with Hashimoto's and are you on replacement thyroid hormones? What are your current Free T4 and Free T3 levels, with reference ranges? Even though I suffered from terrible exhaustion, I didn't sleep for more than a couple hours/night when I was hypo either. Once my levels got where I needed them to be, I could sleep normally.
Avatar f tn I have an underactive thyroid but my brain thinks I have an overactive thyroid. Anyone else had this problem because the Endocrinologist says I will have to live with feeling tired all the time, sweating and short of breath.
Avatar n tn You say you are underactive but the twitching, shaking palpatations sound like you are experiencing both Hyper and Hypo symptoms, thyroid disease would also cause digestive issues. Are you on ant medication for thyroid? If so, what is the name of the medication and dosage amount. Without the above info, it is difficult to advise.
2010625 tn?1329372056 Thequietgirl makes a very good point, thyroid problems can be mistaken as mood swings, someone with an overactive thyroid could certainly give one of my hyper manic episodes a run for it's money, a friend had it and she struggled with the shakes and could run around non stop before they got the situation under control. If you are not sent for a blood test to check your thyroid levels and you have any symptoms please make sure you request one. take care of yourself.
Avatar m tn Ask your family if it runs in your family. There are two types of disorders-overactive and underactive. Yours might be an overactive! Good luck!!
Avatar f tn I'd say it's pretty normal to feel awful with a tsh of 100. That is completely hypothyroid and can make you feel beyond ill. You should start to feel better in a few weeks when that number starts coming down. Are you going to get your blood checked again? When my tsh was that high it took a long time for it to come down and for me to start feeling well again. It just takes time but make sure you are getting your levels checked every 4-6 weeks to make sure you are making progress.
Avatar f tn s, a disease of the thyroid where it switches between hyperthyroid (overactive thyroid) and hypothyroid (underactive thyroid). With the proper meds and exclusion of inflamatory foods from her diet (dairy, gluten product's, and processed sugars) her hair stopped falling out, scalp no longer is dry and flaky, and all around feels better. I have also learned that just hypothyroid can cause those symptoms as well.
Avatar f tn These are my second blood tests and the results are about the same. How overactive is it? Does anyone else have the symptoms of underactive with overactive results? My test results are: The only one which is abnormal is below: Serum free t4 level is 27.100 pmol/l It says the normal range is 8.0 to 18.

Avatar f tn I have been debating the possibility of underactive thyroid for a little while now. My mom has Grave's disease and a VERY overactive thyroid, so I guess it could run in the genes... Within the past year or so I feel like I can suddenly eat a ton of food and not gain weight. It's really weird. I'm by no means underweight (5'3" and 112 lbs.) BUT I have seriously felt like a bottomless pit this past month! I can't get rid of this crazy hunger!
Avatar n tn You need to get examined to rule out a few things such as low blood pressure, postural hypotension, cervical spinal nerve compression, hypoglycemia, severe anemia, an underactive thyroid (called hypothyroidism), overactive thyroid (called hyperthyroidism), adrenal insufficiency (called Addison's disease), GERD, and internal ear infections. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have in the past 9 months been also diagnosed with Diabetes type 2 but again, not through weight or symptoms but just through urine and blood tests. My weight has plumetted since I found out and stopped eating all the 'nice' stuff..lol. So I now weigh around 123lbs. and I'm still losing weight but trying very hard to stablise it. When I found out I had Diabetes type 2, my doctor reduced my thyroxine from 150 mcg to 100 mcg and this had no ill effects.
Avatar n tn You need to get examined to rule out a few things such as low blood pressure, postural hypotension (fall in blood pressure, cervical spinal nerve compression, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), severe anemia, an underactive thyroid (called hypothyroidism), overactive thyroid (called hyperthyroidism), adrenal insufficiency (called Addison's disease), GERD or gastric reflux, and internal ear infections. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
199177 tn?1490498534 I am opposite because of a TT (total Thyroidectomy) done in dec. My thyroid is underactive and causing alot of symptoms for me. I have a girlfriend who has a overactive thyroid, that had many of the symptoms i have and she has actually snowballed from being hyper to hypo but has not chosen to take action besides medication. Everyone's situation is different and depending on the circumstance, treatment will vary. What if any, symptoms are your husband having????
Avatar f tn I hardly eat anything and besides running around after five kids i play football 3 times a week along with the training that goes with it. How can I keep any fitter or watch what i'm eating unless they want me to starve myself??????
Avatar f tn Different labs use different ranges. It is hard to say if your Free T4 is high or low without knowing what the lab range is.
Avatar m tn Graves disease in particular starts off overactive, and symptoms are usually ignored or not noticed...for me it was impossible to gain weight, I had way too much energy and difficulty sleeping. When the thyroid gets overworked though the opposite happens and you become underactive, very quick weight gain and extreme tiredness.
Avatar f tn First - thyroid supplementation is for an underactive thyroid, bot an overactive thyroid. Both Armour Thyroid and levothyroxine are thyroid supplements - levothyroxine is T4, which is the form of hormone produced by the thyroid gland, and which is converted to the active T3 form. Armour Thyroid contains both T4 and T3. Some patients don't seem to convert T4 to T3 quite the way they should and this may explain why some feel better on Armour Thyroid.
Avatar n tn Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment. If still the symptoms persist, then you may need an antibiotic for the gut and would need to see a doctor.

Avatar f tn Hi, Thyroid disease. Both an overactive and underactive thyroid can cause hair loss. The hair loss associated with thyroid disease can be reversed with proper treatment. It would be advisable to consult a skin specialist for your symptoms and a proper clinical examination. Let us know if you need any other information and post us on how you are doing. Regards.
Avatar f tn Excess thyroid hormone -- resulting either from an overactive thyroid gland or from taking too much thyroid hormone -- can also cause problems. Thyroid hormone can block the effect of estrogen at various points in the body. That means the estrogen will not be as effective at getting its job done. This can make the endometrium (uterine lining) unstable and cause abnormal uterine bleeding.
744962 tn?1270942038 I read your other post and also commented on this there. Yes, That Smilerdeb is a keeper here at MedHelp. I don't know what I'd do without her either.
