Avatar m tn I was diagnosed in 1996 with an over active thyroid, I weighed 111 lbs. I'm 5'5" tall. After treatment for a few years the thyroid went to underactive. I've been on 88mg of Levothyroxine for many many many years. Recently I noticed a weight gain without trying. My PCP appt in October 2017 I was 142, my most recent visit along with thyroid testing I was 146. I have not changed my eating habits at all.
Avatar n tn I am a 30 year old female and Ive just recently been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I am a personal trainer and majorly active. I had such bad fatigue with this thyroid thing I have barley done anything. My doctor put me on eltroxin 0.05 about a month ago and I am still just as tired as ever. I am going for blood work next week to see how its going. I have also gained 8 lbs :s will the weight come off once the dosage is correct?
Avatar f tn I have a low thyroid and I am extremely thin. The thyroid weight gain is usually under 10 pounds and is mainly water. Still, I would have a full thyroid panel with thyroid antibody test to rule out thyroid disease as it could be making you not feel like exercising--leading to the weight gain. Also, children do put on weight after age 5 so the tonsil surgery could be a coincidence rather than a true correlation.
Avatar f tn Of course weight problems can be caused by a number of things, but before resorting to anything else, you owe it to yourself to get a thorough evaluation for the possibility of thyroid problems. Please post any thyroid related test results you have, along with reference ranges shown on the lab report. That way we can help assess your status. Also, do you have any other symptoms besides the weight issue?
Avatar f tn Since undiagnosed thyroid problems can dramatically increase your risk of obesity, heart disease, depression, anxiety, hair loss, sexual dysfunction, infertility and a host of other symptoms and health problems Aches and pains in your muscles and joints, weakness in the arms and a tendency to develop carpal tunnel in the arms/hands, tarsal tunnel in the legs, and plantars fasciitis in the feet can all be symptoms of undiagnosed thyroid problems.

Avatar f tn Hi has anyone out there got any tips for weight loss with an underactive thyroid. I am currantly on 150mg daily which my gp says is a little too high but I am still gaining weight. Avatar f tn I have been debating the possibility of underactive thyroid for a little while now. My mom has Grave's disease and a VERY overactive thyroid, so I guess it could run in the genes... Within the past year or so I feel like I can suddenly eat a ton of food and not gain weight. It's really weird. I'm by no means underweight (5'3" and 112 lbs.) BUT I have seriously felt like a bottomless pit this past month! I can't get rid of this crazy hunger!
488881 tn?1209227543 2 the second time if this makes any sense, please can you help me understand what this all means and whether i do have a underactive thyroid and will i always be on treatment for this???
1260907 tn?1269748318 Have you researched all hypothyroid symptoms (long list)? No energy and difficulty sleeping, body pain, are common with low thyroid levels. BP is affected too. Get freeT3 and freeT4 thyroid hormone levels checked - that is what ALL cells need. Do not settle for just TSH which is a 'messenger ' hormone from the pituitary to the thyroid. quote "I am 6'1" tall, weigh in at about 235.
394995 tn?1276085035 Yes, absolutely you WILL have problems conceiving, as I am in the same boat as you except I have Graves' Disease. I have done YEARS of research on conceiving and thyroid problems and everything, including pregnancy books, say your chances of becoming pregnant are slim to none. Also, it would be very bad to conceive while hypo due to abnormalities and retardation in babies of mothers with hypo. Death to the child is also a possibility.
Avatar f tn Without this medication, you would continue to suffer from symptoms of an underactive thyroid. At the beginning of thyroid disease, the blood tests can jump about a bit, showing normal sometimes and then out of whack again, until the thyroid finally gives up trying and stays underactive all the time. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn 37 y.o. weight loss, could a lot of causes. Check thyroid, check for cancers: blood work, breast, colon- unusual but sometimes happens. Anxiety, stress, GI problems-diarrhea. You should probably talk to a doctor and to be asked many of these questions.
Avatar f tn Why not start by posting your thyroid related blood work, so we can see where you're at, right now... there may be a reason for you to be going up and down. You should be getting tested for Free T3, Free T4 and the inevitable TSH. Don't forget to include reference ranges, as those vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report. Do you know if you have Hashimoto's?
Avatar f tn Hi, my first post in this forum and my second on the site.. I hope someone can give me an oppinion. I've had Hypothyroidism for the last 12 years or so I'm told. I take 100mcg of Thyroxine a day. When I was diagnosed I was a little on the heavy side.. but not much. I have never weighed any heavier than 144lbs and I am 5ft 5 ins tall which put me at the top end of my weight according to my height.
2117757 tn?1335965278 I have an underactive thyroid and have to be on medication permanently. I have 2 healthy children though.
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed wth an underactive hyroid. This came after many of the usual symptoms, but mostly because in a three month period, I gained 30 pounds!!! I'm taking Levoxyl AND following all the doctors orders, AND exercising more than ever AND eating better. I've lost about 5 pounds, but the rest is just sitting arond my mid-section. I've never had weight problems before, it's just the thyroid thing. I'm at the end of my rope now and out of ideas.
Avatar f tn I have the same problem. it caused me to be exhausted, irritable and have dizzy spells, as well as losing hair on my head and growing it everywhere else. I found out before I got pregnant this time and they put me on meds that are safe to take while pregnant and breastfeeding. Once I got my meds all of the problems went away. I wouldn't worry as long as you're getting treatment.
1289966 tn?1326101570 just received a letter from the hospital saying that i possibly might have a underactive thyroid ,so i have got straight onto my doc to get a blood test on tuesday ,can i take interferon and riba whilst on thyroxine tablets,im not on tx yet ,plus ive got evidence of liver scarring,if its found that i do have an underactive thyroid ,then for the rest of my life i will be on tablets, will this affect my treatment, thank you john byrnes
Avatar n tn Hi Is there really any help out there with this. I'm a 54 year old femail with the menopause, if thats not bad enough, I now have an under active thyroid. I am virtually straving myself exercising, and taking libo bind slimming tablets yet getting fatter everyday, needless to say my clothes are tighter and uncomfortable, and yet my GP seems to think it's ok that I have put on weight because my BMI is ok. Other than that she just ignores me.
7831604 tn?1399711007 Any of you ladies dealing with thyroid problems? I have had overactive thyroid for years but it seems this pregnancy they are watching it more closely than my last 3years ago. I was just wondering would this lead to being indimuced early or anything?
Avatar f tn If it is something caused by an underactive thyroid I thought I would have to be more than my ideal weight? Well, that's what I've read up about when googling "underactive thyroid". Any help is greatly welcomed. Thanks!!
Avatar n tn Hi I had some blood test s done early because of my iron deficiency and my doc done glucose and thyroid s blood came back my iron is low thyroid is low glucose is fine... and as you do I looked up underactive thyroid and it can have all sorts of birth defects.... I'm so sad... im scared as hell... my doc didn't give me any meds maybe because I got my first scan and full blood tests done next week but every one is on about medication! Any ones else out there that got it ?
Avatar f tn however, you should get both thyroid and B12 levels tested. Many people who have thyroid problems are deficient in B12.
Avatar f tn A few months later i was started on levothyroxine and this worked well for years. I gained a bit of weight but remained at this stable weight for a few more years even after the birth of another 2 children!! Around 18 months ago i started to GAIN weight excessively! (around 3 pounds per week). By the time i had gained approx 19 pounds i returned to my GP who thought i needed more thyroxine.
Avatar m tn I also have been Diagnosed with Hashimotos Thyroiditis, Underactive Thyroid. My left Thyroid was removed 4 years ago due to constant Infection and the right Thyroid have to be removed in the upcoming weeks due to the same problem. my TSH levels were 25.5 on the 10/04/2015 and on 14/10/2015 with another test my Level spiked to 35.5 i am on Eltroxin at 250 mg, My weight is at 50 kg and i measure 1.95 m tall. I also don't understand whey i am skinny.
Avatar n tn The eltoxin is a thyroid replacement for an underactive thyroid -- the best way to test for this is to look at the TSH level -- this would be high in the case of hypothyroidism. It may help with the weight, but 18kg is more than we usually see in hypothyroidism, so diet and exercise is important as well.
1327431 tn?1327072104 Does anyone get really bad spasms - neck/shoulders/upper back , its always my left hand side never the right hmmmmm dont know if its my thyroid or just the way i sleep i suppose sitting in a office all doesnt help but been off work for 3 weeks resting....any answers on how to help it its really uncomfortable :( or just go to a physio ?
1617467 tn?1298680277 If so it is best to post your test results and the ranges provided with them, this way the more experienced members can see where you are at regarding your thyroid, weight gain and depression are symptoms of an underactive thyroid, are you sure it was your T4 that is high? I would think for underactive your T4 would be low and your TSH would be high. Anyway post your labs from the test if not, you can request them from your MD.
5939183 tn?1377163795 Both myself, my dad and his mother have rheumatoid arthritis. My mom and her sister are both on thyroid meds for underproductive thyroid. Should I get tested again and push for meds. My kids are growing like weeds and they are thin but should I get them tested anyway? I am obsese and have been so since my mom put me on a 3 month birth control injection which stopped my periods.
