Avatar f tn Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.
Avatar n tn If there are symptoms of an umbilical hernia even without complications, you should consult your doctor for advice. In adults, most umbilical hernias do not correct themselves unless diagnosed at a very early stage, and they must be treated with minor surgery. Do keep us posted on your progress and follow up.
2042217 tn?1336527852 You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged. Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. The recovery time varies person to person and depends on your general health condition and extent of hernia.

454221 tn?1259445739 Thanks so much for responding. I have 4 kids and I think I fear the most is dying after the surgery. I don't want take a risk that could possible leave my kids without a mother. Might be silly worrying about it. I'm suppose to see another plastic surgeon on May 4th and I will ask if they use the same procedures to prevent blood clots. Is it common for 34 y/o to have blood clots after this surgery?
Avatar n tn I had a seroma after surgery for a hernia in Sept of 2008. It is now Feb of 2010 and there is still some fluid. Dr.'s just say. OH well gotta live with it. Very disappointing.
Avatar m tn I am scheduled to get an open surgery for an umbilical hernia on the 25th. The surgeon specializes weight loss lap band surgeries. I found a highly regarded hernia specialist that I could use but may be a longer wait. Is it worth it?
Avatar n tn I still may need surgery for the umbilical hernia, but the diastasis/separation is no more.
Avatar n tn It could be an umbilical hernia. Those usually happen in infants but adults have this especially if they gain weight or are obese. They may be sore from time to time but usually don't have many symptoms. Tell your doctor about it at your last physical as they can have complications of strangulation. This would be happening if it all of a sudden became very painful.
433485 tn?1321813390 I have an umbilical hernia, it has not been repaired. I got it when my tummy had swollen up from some gastro problems, and when I got to coughing, my stomach muscles were stretched out and could not hold in the spasm, so that created the hernia. My belly button was painful for several days, and when I pushed on the swollen part, it hurt. Then general discomfort went on for, oh, two or three weeks.
Avatar m tn I'm not a doctor or in the medical field. I just had my umbilical hernia surgery 2.5 weeks ago with mesh. If you have the surgery without mesh you could have another hernia as your putting strain down below and it could come through another weak point. It also can get bigger and quite ugly. It is your intestines that you are pushing and squishing back into your body. It's amazing how much we use stomach. Anything you do while working out, you will use your stomach muscles.
Avatar f tn My husband just now poked me in my belly button .. He knows not to do that because I have an umbilical hernia .. It hurt so bad I punched him , it sends shocks through my body.. It's a terrible feeling ... I'm sorry you are going through the pain of a hernia.. Thankfully mine only hurts when I touch it ..not constantly... Was there anything you could take for the pain besides Tylenol?
Avatar f tn Hi. Iam 32 years old. Before 12 years i had a minor surgery fixing the umbilical hernia right above my navel. During last period of time i was living normal life doing all physical activities as others after fixing my hernia. But now its back again and i can see it while i am coughing or when i pull in my abdomon. I am being fat and overweight since last 6months(height:170cm, weight:90kg).
442658 tn?1563386491 Most hernias in puppies are umbilical hernias that appear as a little bubble where the umbililcal cord was attached, and they are caused at birth by the mother chewing the cord off too vigorously and too short. The chewing and pulling on the umbilical cord causes a tear in the wall and the hernia is formed. In most cases of umbilical hernias, unless they are so large that they are a threat to the dog's health in the way of the intestines slipping through them, they are left alone.
Avatar f tn Question is your umbilical hernia on your belly button?
Avatar n tn t know if all hernias are the same or not but my husband has an umbilical hernia and the surgery for that is a day surgery. Cysts done via horizontal cut are a 3 - 5 day hospital stay and much more involved.
Avatar f tn There are two minor problems that will require assessment or additional surgery if the pet is already spayed or neutered. These are umbilical hernia's and a recessed or immature vulva. If the pet has an umbilical hernia it can be repaired during the spay or neuter. If the pet is already spayed or neutered, repair of the hernia will require another surgery.

Avatar f tn I have an incisional hernia. Had a gall bladder surgery and this being my 3rd kids in 3 1/2 years it caused the scar tissue to rip open. I have to have surgery after the baby is born. I do believe m most umbilical hernias self correct though. Good luck.
Avatar f tn It is probably an Umbilical Hernia. You probably have had the weakening in that area since birth and the added pressure from being pregnant has caused it to bulge outward/herniate- is where the intestines push out through a small tear in the lining. Nothing will be done during pregnancy or possibly if ever as long as you don't start having problems, such as pain or strangulated intestines. with it.
459969 tn?1398170254 We are getting him every weekend, but he has an umbilical hernia. Do these hurt the baby? It is fairly big. My first thought is that it looked like another penis(enlarged) coming out of his belly button. I just want to make sure when he has tummy time, that this will not be painful for him. and if anyone has had a baby with this, do they go away, ,or will it require surgery. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I have a small umbilical hernia. There is no pain, but when run my hand across by stomach above my belly button, it sticks out. My doctor wants to "keep an eye on it" and check it again in 3 months. Can I continue with weight training, swimming, running, and bicycle riding? The doctor seemed extremely vague about what training I could continue. Is there anything I can do to keep from having surgery?
