Avatar f tn I have type 2 diabetes and am trying to loose the 40+ pounds I've put on since being diagnosed two years ago. I am eating very little but still gaining weight. I was exercising a lot but had to stop because of fatigue. Sometimes I sleep 12-14 hours and wake up feeling as if I hadn't slept at all. I feel cold all the time no matter the weather, my hair is thinning, my nails are breaking, and my voice has become deep and husky. Anyone know what's wrong with me?
649848 tn?1534637300 There's a lot of diabetes in my family, including my son, who was diagnosed @ 10 yrs old with type 1; also have a nephew w/type 1 and 3 siblings w/ type 2 so have figured for years that it was just a matter of time. My fasting blood sugars are always in the normal range, but have been as high as 99; last one was 88.
Avatar n tn When I was working in the hospital in diabetes education in my town we did have a boy who was over-weight and was diagnosed with childhood onset type 2 diabetes and he had gained some weight because his body was producing so much insulin to compensate for his bigger body size that it caused him to gain weight. I would talk to my doctor as soon as possible. It is better to be safe than sorry in your situation.
Avatar n tn As for diabetes Zyprexa is the most likely to cause it but if a person isn't gaining weight on it then they are okay but if they are then its a good idea to ask their psychiatrist to change them to Abilify which is the least likely to cause it although it still happens.
Avatar f tn So eat more often, eating less. Going without meals with make the diabetes worse. Central weight gain is often cortisol - any testing on that?
Avatar n tn could it be his glucose level was already low secondary to a developing diabetes type I or can that medicine act that quickly. I think we may have stumbled on to something accidently. I checked his nonfasting glucose level just now and it was 121. Any ideas?

158939 tn?1274918797 this year), no excessive urination, and is gaining weight (8lbs in 2 months). He doesn't really fit the text-book profile of Type II (his age and he's so young and slender) or Type I (gaining 8lbs in 2 months). How do doctors determine if a teenager has Type I or Type II diabetes? As a side note, his blood sugar (checked on two different meters to ensure the readings weren't off) has bounced between 68 and 266 over the past few days.
Avatar n tn What are the symptoms of type 2 diabetes? I barely eat and I am gaining weight stedily every day. I even have a roll of fat that hangs below my bellybotton. The little I do eat Is very healthy .Is this a symptom, rapid weight gain?
361026 tn?1197563128 For a solid year and a half before the doctors finally diagnosed me they couldn't figure out why I was gaining weight. It would be a couple pounds here and there but it has added up over time to almost a total of 100 pounds of weight gain. They couldn't figure it out because I rarely ate, so they thought it was some of the meds that I have to be on which one of their side effects was weight gain, but not at the drastic extent as mine has ended up being over the past 2 to 3 years.
Avatar m tn I see that you posted this in 2008, but I also am struggling with the exact same problem. I am 5'6 and weigh 115 pounds with type 2 diabetes. I have discovered a way to have completely normal bs #'s with diet and exercise, but I lost 12 pounds in 1 month! I want to get off my insulin so I can be healthy but I don't want to be stick thin in return. Have you discovered anything on this and if there are fatty foods that you can eat with out jumping your numbers up?
Avatar n tn It also contains lactose incase you have problem being lactose intolerance. Check with your doctor. If thyroid meds. caused weight gain, we'd all be gaining weight. Other than that I don't have a clue. Sorry!
906129 tn?1242402230 I started out on levothyroxine 50 mcg, went up to 75 mcg and then went to Synthroid 75mcg. I am still gaining weight and even though I am not as active as I should be.... I am not a total couch potato. LOL. I am now at 168 lbs! I feel so unlike myself. So unattractive. So depressed. Have you had other hormones checked? Diabetes or insulin tests done? Just thinking out loud, but maybe it's not just your thyroid.
Tbd Years ago, we found a lot of encouragement in a book called "Reversing Diabetes" by Dr. Julian Whitaker. More recently, the video "Forks Over Knives" has been challenging and helpful.
Avatar f tn For over five years I have had difficulty fully expanding my left (I think) lung. I just cannot get a deep satisfying breath. It started around the time I started taking Fosamax. I stopped taking it for over a year but the breathing did not improve. I quit smoking. The pulmonary doctor has run all kinds of tests and everything comes back, repeatedly, normal. It sounds like the classic definition of emphysema but he says there is no evidence of that.
215905 tn?1214505001 I just posted something so similar, I have the same problems just had a baby 4 months ago got blood work retest and TSH is still low. I am always tired, no sex drive, irritable and weight gain. No doctor has yet to tell me how to fix the thyroid problem or what to do. It figures I have a thyroid problem where I should be skinny and keep weight off of me but no I have to be one of the those people who gain not lose.
Avatar n tn I also take the medication for type 2 diabetes. I also take glyburide for my diabetes. I would say that it is a 50/50 chance whether you would lose weight in the long run as the product wasn't designed as a weight loss product. (but I'm not a doctor so your dr. might be able to tell you what to expect).
393685 tn?1425816122 I got so depressed and ill - I lost my job and became a vegetable at home. STILL GAINING WEIGHT. Then I crashed into a close call with a thryroid coma - I wasn't getting the proper meds after RAI to keep me alive. Finally I realized - I was sick - I overlooked the new fat me and wanted help to get better to LIVE. I found a much better doctor now and finally medically I feel better even though I could be looking at cancer right now and need to have my neck cut open. and have a scar.
1317224 tn?1378708734 Thanks, Mary, for your note of encouragement. I've lost 50 pounds 4-5 times in my life and 75-100 pounds twice...but always regained the lost weight and more. At the time of my most recent loss...2005-2007, I'd thought I'd found the secret to keeping the weight off. I was using "food as fuel" instead of "food as friend" and was exercising 2 hours a day (an hour of cardio and an hour of weight training), five days a week.
1257808 tn?1322765815 I found that I had 2 main weight loss. during these weight loss or after it, my symptoms are more frequent, new symptoms appear, old symptoms become more severe and develpoed & re-gain weight too much after loss weight period.
Avatar n tn My periods have stopped (which I do like) but out of the blue I'm gaining weight right in my mid section. I exercise nearly everyday, I do crunches, run, try to eat right and nothing happens. I have even taken natural water pills to see if that would help but so far no. I havent seen my doctor yet but plan on making an appt. The other symptoms I have are hot flashes, getting irritable easier and just plan mad due to my weight. I think you were right.... starvation is next!
Avatar n tn after my hysterectomy at 45yrs old I am gaining weight fast...never had mood swings or sweats...taking no harmones..does anything help?Trying all over the counter pills and etc. nothing working...HELP!!
Avatar n tn I have a Hyper/Graves' (which I am), friend who gained lots and lost of weight, where as I lost. A lot of Hypers complain about gaining weight. I am one of the rare one who lost mega weight which was very pretty either and became a big problem. If symptoms persist they perhaps something else is going on. Some of the thyroid symptoms are the same as other health conditions. I know its hard!
Avatar n tn I'm on week 2. I was skinny my whole life. Gaining the weight felt good, normal. Losing weight brought a concern that I'd go back to a "skinny tall guy". Everyone around me things i look good, but inside i feel anxiety when someone says "hey, did you lose weight"? It has been hell going onto these other drugs. Everyday i wish i stayed on Effexor and maybe exercised more or found activities to help lower my stress. Why dont i get back on it?
Avatar m tn I understand that more regular exercise is crucial but she's so tired from working everyday- should she really be struggling with her weight and GAINING weight over the years if she eats incredibly healthy home cooked meals?
Avatar f tn I have bipolar type 2 so I have mood swings from high to low. Tramadol has almost completely eliminated my lows. I read that it has an affinity for serotonin receptors so that would explain the enhanced mood. It has allowed me to cut my bioplar medication in half. For me, Tramadol is a wonder drug. All benefit and zero negative side effects. I now have to convince my doctor to prescribe it for these off-label reasons. I am currently getting it from my dog's veterinarian.
Avatar n tn Hello all, I visited the Dr. again today and brought up the topic of weight loss. I have been eating better the last 2 years than I ever had in my life. I work out 3 times a week and have a crazy busy schedule. I am 38 and extremely healthy except for occasional headaches, but I am depressed daily about these extra pounds I just can't lose. I love my Dr. and trust her completely, but would love to hear your comments.
649848 tn?1534637300 I believe them to be somewhat weight related, so in order to treat them properly, and prevent further issues, I'm going to HAVE to lose the weight. If you find yourself with symptoms that you've never had before, such as fatigue, sudden weight gain/loss, bowel issues, skin/hair problems, aches/pains and others, don't just "assume" it's because you are getting older or that you are beginning menopause. Research your symptoms and go see your doctor.
291885 tn?1404896807 Unfortunately the docs I saw at the time all thought I was too young to have thyroid issues despite the obvious symptoms (rapid weight gain of 30 lbs in 3 months, IBS, depression, fatigue) and didn't diagnose me until 3 years later. When I finally got the dx I started on Armour and worked my way up to 1 grain over the next 9 months.
