Type 2 diabetes diet requirements

Common Questions and Answers about Type 2 diabetes diet requirements

diabetes

Avatar m tn Fasting hyperglycemia can happen with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is caused by lack of insulin and the treatment is injected insulin, exercise and careful management of diet. Type 2 is initially caused by insulin resistance and there will initially be high levels of insulin that cannot be properly used by the body. Treatment can be diet, exercise, weight loss, and medications.
Avatar f tn Hello! Welcome to medhelp. Sorry you haven't gotten an answer to your question. Sounds like you are a very thoughtful person about your health which is great and cograts on losing some weight. I'm working on that myself! I have gotten into the DASH diet. It's recommended by the American Heart Association and is great for your health. However, it's really for prevention of hypertension, it's also good overall.
Avatar n tn Given your weight, diet and history you may be adult onset type 1 (research LADA) rather than type 2. Treatment for this is insulin rather than oral meds, usually. Your fasting no. are reasonable now, but your after eating is still too high. Yes, exercise and low carb eating are very helpful in controlling blood sugars and minimising med requirements. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Hi, For type one diabetes, insulin dosing can accelerate weight gain. On the other hand insulin is essential for your health and well being. Thus you want to use the minimum effective dose of insulin so that your blood sugars are kept normal for health, and your insulin levels are not excessive. I am type 1, I find that eating a low carb diet (I follow Dr.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am a type 2 diabetic as well. When I do have soda it is always diet. I never noticed any increased levels in my blood glucose levels tho. Try one for a day or two, monitor your levels and see if they affect anything. Something that I do is look at the lables when I am not sure if something is ok for me. When you do this compare the lables from a diet soda to a regular soda and see what they look like, this will pretty much give you a answer as well.
Avatar f tn I have had type 1 diabetes for around 8 years now. Me and my husband are trying to get pregnant. I've had 2 miscarriages. I'm just wondering what are some tips or advice that you guys have? What foods should I eat? Anyone had this problem? Just looking for advice in what to do. I do shots right now but am looking into insulin pump.
Avatar f tn I had type 2 diabetes before I got pregnant. I'm 8 weeks and I inject insulin twice a day. They said if I don't control my levels my baby will be too overweight . any suggestions besides eating right and exercising? Is anyone else experiencing this?
Avatar f tn I have type 2 diabetes and I had it even before pregnancy.Till my 3rd trimester I was on medicine-metformin and diet. From third trimester it is just going up.So along with metformin I am on two types of insulin every day.But as of now my baby is doing fine.I am 34 W 6 days.
1436324 tn?1283698760 The ways to control type 2 diabetes is with change of diet (reduction of carbs), weight loss if necessary, exercise, and, if necessary, medication. Medication is not the enemy, and if it is needed can help control your blood sugar. However, I agree with the previous poster that it shouldn't be the first choice; diet, exercise and weight loss should. I am going to send you a PM with a website with a lot more diabetics of both types. There you will get the support and knowledge you need.
Avatar n tn Low carb diet is absolutely the best way to manage diabetes. American Diabetes Association is now also recognizing this. By low carb we mean about 20 - 30 g of carbs per day. Protein should be adequate (can be up to 1.5g/ kg body weight), and healthy unprocessed fats (avoid vegetable oils) for energy balance. HEalthy fats include the fats that come with meats and full fat dairy, nuts, avocado etc.
Avatar m tn i was diagnosed Diabetes type 2 in december 2010..I want to know that if someone is diabetic, how much he will live ???
Avatar f tn Low carb diet will help her lose weight. It will also reduce her insulin requirements (so she needs to monitor carefully). There are many online links (you will need to search as I'm not allowed to post links here) if you google low carb and diabetes management. For an excellent book look for "diabetes solutions" by Dr. Richard Bernstein. I found that book revolutionised how I think about diabetes and how I manage it for myself (all for the better).
Avatar n tn Although there's no cure for type 2 diabetes, studies show it's possible for some people to reverse it. Through diet changes and weight loss, you may be able to reach and hold normal blood sugar levels without medication. This doesn't mean you're completely cured. Type 2 diabetes is an ongoing disease.
Avatar n tn I was detected to be a type 1 diabetic around 2 years back. I have been taking short term insulin since then. Recently i have found a drastic increase in my body weight and increased insulin requirements. I have been changing my insulin dose myself. I take erratic dosages everyday n decide using trial n error. My dose decided was 10 12 10 units everyday by the doctor 6-7 months ago. I have increased it to 18 18 20 on my own. I am worried that my requiremnts are going on increasing.
Avatar m tn I've recently been diagnosed with type II diabetes and still adjusting my medication and when I had a sugar crash yesterday at lunch I over did my sugar in take and had a sugar spike. It exhausted me, gave me first sweats then chills, nausea all afternoon. I've tried all night eating small portions and hope this morning I would feel better. But now that I'm up I'm still shaking and my blood sugar is 135. How long will I get like this and should I go back to my old dosage.
Avatar n tn I am kind of in the same boat. Somewhere between type 1 and type 2, but no antibodies. Low insulin requirements. Low c-peptide. Probably I am what they call LADA, which is slow adult age onset type 1. Anyway, I think the most important thing is not the type of diabetes we have, but how well we manage it. I also eat very low carb, and this results in great management and good numbers, with relatively little insulin.
Avatar f tn Many of us with hepatitis C, even those of us who are cured, are dealing with type 2 diabetes. Losing weight and eating low carb is very helpful. My doctor put me on metformin which dropped my fasting blood sugar closer to normal range. But the thing that helped the most was cutting way down on carbs and losing 10 pounds. My A1C went from 6.0 to 5.6.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is different from type 1 diabetes, which isn't reversible. Type 2 can generally be reversed by changing your diet and getting plenty of exercise. The reason is that type 2 is caused by the body not being able to absorb or use the insulin it creates.
