Avatar n tn I wonder how many of you who were diagnosed before the age of 1 have been checked for Neonatal Diabetes? My son was diagnosed at the age of 4 months with Type 1 diabetes but we later found out he had Neonatal Diabetes caused by a genetic mutation of the KCNJ11 gene.
Avatar m tn Management of diet (lower carb) and medications (insulin) will be used, as necessary to keep sugars as close to normal as possible. Having gestational diabetes can make women more likely to have either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Thus, it will be very important that your daughter has her sugar levels monitored soon after she delivers her baby and then every 3 - 6 months thereafter to be sure that levels are all staying normal.
Avatar n tn But one thing is that it will take a few years of testing and money which both JDRF and ADA spend bunches on. i have had type 1 diabetes for over thirty years now and i would welcome a cure. Too bad that we can't get the conservative politicians, like Bush, to approve more stem cell research, which is one of the studied methods for creating a cure that seems very promising.
Avatar n tn It's gonna be like that untill someone extraordinary finds a way to completely fix type 2. Type 1 will never be fixed, but one day we may understand why it happens and will be preventable. For now it's either drastically lowering the consumption of carbs, or the drugs. There's no inbetween.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am so sorry I missed your question, it did not come up in que when you write the most recent question. Type 2 diabetes can develop into a type of Type 1 later on IF the pancreas is not able to keep producing enough insulin. This is not definite and only happens to certain individuals. Complications related to diabetes are mainly from high glucoses and not the medications taken. All medications can have side effects ofcourse, herbals, teas etc included.
Avatar n tn I know too much about diabetes and its complications, that made things even worse. I just searched and searched the journals about type 1 diabetes and got scared by the poor prognosis. I'm a christian and I just can't understand why god gave me such a disease, I blamed god for that. Type 1 DM is very rare in Chinese, the incidence is around 0.14/100000 per year. Why am I so unfortunate?
Avatar n tn I'm just curious about your opinions on when you think a cure will be available? I'm thinking 3-7 years. Too optimistic? Maybe.
1272685 tn?1309051818 Basing it though the fact that I understand they've done alot of research and proven to literally cure mice in a week or so, of type 1 diabetes, I was wondering how close they are with it in humans. On behalf of that note, With getting kidney and liver damage, and such from running low/high here and there.....How hard is it too get damage, and can the cure work with a little damage? And is there a course of time that it develops?
Avatar n tn I didnt have any symptoms when I was diagnosed a few years ago but go ask your doctor for blood test but meantime try and lose weight by healthy eating and exercise, If you would like to learn how to cure your diabetes naturally ... without drugs, without risky surgery, without any typical diabetes treatments, and without any side effects, then this will be the most important site you will ever see, watch here: http://firstgq.
Avatar n tn My fiancee was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about 6 months ago. It seemed as if he lost his sex drive... he says it's not that he doesn't want it. He doesn't have a problem getting an erection either. Thats the only problem in our relationship, everything else, emotional is all perfect. We are completely in love. He is taking insulin and his blood sugars are being controlled, however he still hasn't gottan much of a sex drive back. What is it he is doing wrong?
Avatar n tn My daughter does have Type 1. Although it is unusual for adults to develop the illness, it happens occasionally. Also, my daughter ALWAYS ate a low carb, low sugar diet, with only occasional "fattening" foods. As a result, she is quite thin. In addition, she exercises regularly and is extremely athletic. She may well have had the illness for some time before it was diagnosed, following gestational diabetes.
Avatar n tn I have no damages at all after living for 26 years with type 1 diabetes, but I would not be so fortunate if I had ignored the disease when I was young. SO... one of the 2 situations I describe are probably what the doctor is responding to. You might ask him what his last hemoglobin a1c test result was. The standard is for doctors to tell diabetics that they need this number to be lower than 7 in order to protect themselves from damage.
Avatar n tn He is already on an ace-inhibitor for some kidney problems. My second question would be what type of damage does alchoal do to type 1 diabetes? I am very concerned about him. He has also gained a lot of weight at college. It would mean a lot to me to have some guidance. He claims that clear alchoal does not affect diabetics.
Avatar n tn She is 6 years old and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 1 1/2 years ago. Just a month ago she started complaining about stomach pain around her belly button. She only complains when she's really in pain. She also loves school and have been missing a lot of school because of the pain. At first it started out happening about every few days then it got more and more and now it was happening constantly. She said that she was always in pain but at times it would hurt very badly.
Avatar n tn Without insulin, people with type 1 diabetes cannot survive. JDRF is committed to finding a true cure, but this is not it.
Avatar n tn My 4 year old son was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes 18 months ago, and we have very gradually gained better control over that period of time. 5 days ago he woke up with a reading of 3mmol/l (54mg/dl). I reduced his insulin slightly. He ate breakfast normally, and then went into a severe hypo 2 hours later, losing consciousness.
Avatar m tn Hi forum members. I'm new to the site & hope that some of you might help enlighten me as I'm feeling pretty much alone about now. I'm 47, caucasian male, weigh around 118 kg, smoke 20 a day and 188cm. I've just found out I've got cirrohsis & about 6 months ago earlier that I have diabetes type 2 which I have under dietary control & so far so good - I've read diabetes medications are a big no no for compromised livers. I've had hcv since around 1984 I guess, making it some 25 years.
Avatar f tn I can't find any studies which describe that, but that was the information given to me when I participated in the TrialNet study. Not having a history of type 1 doesn't really mean anything, type 1 is being diagnosed more and more often in children that have no history in their families. It's unfortunate, but true. My suggestion would be to continue to keep in contact with your endo and family doctor, followups will be necessary to verify glucose scores and the status of the pre-diabetes.
Avatar n tn Many overweight folks who develop diabetes have Type 2, but you haven't mentioned whether you have Type 2 or Type 1. Do you know which type you have? Folks with Type 2 who return to a healthy weight can often stop taking meds and can control their diabetes with exercise and a sensible diet. Technically, however, I don't think they are cured because if they drop their good self-care, their symptoms (and potential risks for other nasty complications) will all return).
Avatar n tn in his vision field, cloudy areas) but upon further examination the doctor told him that his optic nerver had been damaged due to swelling and blamed his diabetes (type 2). He has had his diabetes under control for an entire year. Unfortunately, though the majority of the vision in his left eye is gone. Suddenly yesterday the vision in his Right (good eye) started going the same way with the opaque areas and purple curtains; spots in his field of sight.

Avatar m tn org) in 2003 - and now that Children's Congress 2011 is right around the corner, I just wanted to kind of reach out and let people know what a wonderful opportunity this is! Anyone who is 4-17 years old and has Type 1 diabetes can apply to go to Children's Congress. About 150 kids are selected, and they all get to travel to Washington, DC and attend meetings with legislators on Capitol Hill to explain why we need federal funding for diabetes research so we can find a cure.
1691407 tn?1332716147 He is eating more since stopping dbl TX. He also has had Type 2 diabetes since pre transplant, he is insulin dependent, He uses Novalog 70/30 mix twice a day, and regular Novalog short acting as needed. Thanks to everyone who reads this and gives us their advice. We are feeling so unsure right now.
Avatar n tn (Nothing like catching hot vomit in your hands, huh?) These fevers started at 1 1/2 years and were like clockwork; every 5-6 weeks, we were in the ER (her fevers ALWAYS spiked at night and it usually happened on a friday or saturday night.) with a fever of 105 degrees and no other symptoms. And they sent us home with antibiotics EVERY time. We would then follow up with the doctor ASAP. Very rarely was she still feverish, so the doctor ASSUMED that it was an infection and that the antibiotics.
Avatar n tn How do i know if i have diabetes? 2. What age does diabetes occur? 3. What is type 1 diabetes and type2 and which one is worse? 4. If i dont control my diabetes what are some risk that i can get? 5. Is there a cure for diabetes if there not how close are we to find one?
Avatar n tn html Its a petition I composed to help find a cure for diabetes, and to support funding for stem cell research! Being a Type 1 diabetic this is an issue that is very close to my heart and is something I am very passionate about. If you do not agree with the matter or research then of course you do not have to sign or pass this along, but if you do agree and can find it in you hearts to sign and/or pass it along then thank you.
Avatar f tn As a side note on my history, I have Type 1 Diabetes, Systemic Lupus, Srogren's, and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I am wondering, is this yet another autoimmune disease beginning to present itself? I know 106 is not that high, but while most people don't get blood tests every 3 months as I do for Diabetes, maybe we are just catching something in it's very premature stages. Is 106 high enough to be able to show a clear cut answer on an Isoenzyme lab should that be the next step?
