Common Questions and Answers about Tussionex narcotic

tussionex

Avatar n tn Had all the allergy shots available on the planet (allergies to dust/dust mites) and today, I read about Tussionex. I control my blood pressure very well with Adalat once a day. I'll be seeing my GP on April 8. I pray that Tussionex (taken only 8 hours or 12 hours prior to my show/s as opposed to taking the narcotic regularly - that's scary) would be permissible for me even when taking Adalat.
Avatar m tn Each teaspoonful (5 mL) of TUSSIONEX (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) Pennkinetic Extended-Release Suspension contains hydrocodone polistirex equivalent to 10 mg of hydrocodone bitartrate and chlorpheniramine polistirex equivalent to 8 mg of chlorpheniramine maleate. TUSSIONEX (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) Pennkinetic Extended- Release Suspension provides up to 12-hour relief per dose. Hydrocodone is a centrally-acting narcotic antitussive. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine.
1003776 tn?1360197582 Hi there. I never thought in a million years I would be here, I mean at the point I am at and searching for help in this area, thats for sure. But drug addiction apparantly has no boundaries, rich or poor, young or old-it can happen to anyone. But for me, i feel especially guilty because I am a mother to 5 great children who dont deserve the bad mood and the way I am while I am trying to come off this RX addiction.
286124 tn?1214938528 wow!!! now thats a word i havent heard of in years, tussionex... what do you mean "back you up?
Avatar f tn I am hopefully going to start treatment AGAIN for tussionex withdrawal and treatment. Pray for me. Any suggestions or any other people out there like me? I am so alone.
Avatar n tn sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. One day at a time, because that's all we've got.
636562 tn?1223667445 I recently had a bad reaction to Tussionex Suspension and had to go to the ER. I agree with the doctor that I had a reaction to the Tussionex, but I'm wondering why it affected me so long after I initially took it (I didn't have any symptoms for the first 7-8 hours). I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, but I thought a pharmacist would be the best one to answer my question. How do extended release medications work?
Avatar n tn Vicodin, Vicoprofen, Tussionex, etc... and thay may be called in or faxed in to a Pharmacy and can have up to 6 refills.
Avatar n tn I have a bottle of Tussionex since the last time i was pretty sick. It was filled may 15 2008 and Im not sure what the expiration date is on it. would it be fine to take?
Avatar f tn I took Tussionex for the first time at 11:00 pm after I took a Levaquin at 10:00 pm. I have bronchitis. I awoke suddenly from my sleep at 2:00 am and had no breath - and could not speak or call my husband although I was trying to say 'help'. I got my breath back after a minute or so and was pretty shaken up by this. I'm very tired but reluctant to go back to sleep if it happens again. I was pretty shaken up. Is this an allergic reaction or a side effect?
Avatar f tn Last night and today, I have relapsed yet again on Tussionex. For the past two weeks, I have felt nothing but excruciating pain in my heart from so many losses. My divorce, my ex boyfriend and my recent ex boyfriend. Then, I used last night. I took a tablespoon of the tussionex and I felt numb. I felt happy. I felt like I didn't want to kill myself. So I took two teaspoons today. The pain is still nagging at the back of my head.
1071153 tn?1255369215 I knew I liked the feeling and what it did for me. Every chance I could call in a cough for some Tussionex I would. I grew up in a Godly home and was in church every week, so I knew it was wrong. A friend had some Ultracet. I tried some and liked them. I justified they were ok because it was not a narcotic. I have been taking Ultracet weekly and sometimes daily for four years getting Tussionex and other opiates we I could.
Avatar f tn A lot of factors would determine if someone is charged, and how severely they are charged, including which medication was involved (for example, a schedule 2 narcotic, like Percocet/oxycodone would be treated more seriously than a schedule 3 narcotic like hydrocodone/vicodin), how many scripts were involved and how many pills were Rx'ed (difference between being charged with distribution or not), whether insurance was used or not to pay for the subsequent scripts, if you have any criminal
Avatar n tn After having an endoscopy and going to several gastroenterologist and ENT specialists I found that the only drug that helps is Tussionex which is a narcotic that combines Hydrocodone and Chlorpheniramine. The problem is ofcourse that no doctor will give that on a daily bases for the rest of my life. If anybody know about any other any other non addicting drugs that may be related or not to Hydro that would give the same relief?
Avatar f tn My addiction started around 1 1/2 to 2 years ago when I had a chronic cough and was given Tussionex - wow how I loved that stuff. It totally stopped my coughing and made you feel great. I took that stuff for heck months...until I was diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back - well as luck would have it I was prescribed Vicodin with has the same crap in it as the cough medicine Tussionex had. Well long story short I have finally come to my senses and gave it all up. I can do it...
Avatar n tn For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!
Avatar f tn Hi, That's absolutely horrible. I'm so sorry to hear about what is going on with your hubby. Go see your doctor and ask your doctor to give you a cough medication and the name of it is Tussionex suspense. It's amazing it does have a hard narcotic in it but it will definitely stop the cough in its tracks. My hubby takes it and we call it Liquid Gold here at our house. It's amazing. Good luck. Keep in touch. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn im am addicted to this and hycodan at the same timw for about 3 years i take about a 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of tussionex a day i have drank 3 and 4 ounces in a day many times with ease thought and put any where from 2 tsp to a whole ounce in sprit and i never dont have a cup i also take klodipin i take 2 to 4 mgs a day and take at least 100mg of lortab about ten 10mgs a day but sometimes it does reach up to 20 tens a day plus the cough syrups how bad is my withdrawl for the codiene going to be i
Avatar m tn Well, tussionex is part hydrocodone which is a semi-synthetic opioid and part chlorpheniramine which is a type of antihistamine. So some people can be more sensitive to the hydrocodone (vicadin) part of the cough syrup. It is a fairly addictive drug and some people have genetics (an enzyme called cpy 2d6) that increases the duration the hydrocodone is elevated in their blood. This leads to exaggerated effects or feeling of euphora and other symptoms.
Avatar n tn I was also given a three day regiment of azithromicin (zythromax) and Tussionex to control the cough. I was also given a DuoNeb. None of which seemed to work. After checking in with my primary care, i was given a flovent inhaler, to no avail. Following that, i was put on 80mg of prednisone, down to 60, then weaned off.
Avatar f tn Isn't there a law that states a doctor who gives you narcotic pain meds for several years then discharges you, that he has to, at least, write you out a prescription for one month so you can find another doctor?
Avatar f tn After reading your post it gives me some hope. Thank you and congrats to being 90+days clean. Can you please tell me how you did it. What sort of habit did you have and how did you get off of them? Did you do a taper plan or just go cold turkey? Excuse me for asking so many questions its just that I need as much info as possible. I wasn't strong enough this morning when I woke up, I was throwing up and had gone the whole night in and out of sleep so I took the last two I had.
Avatar m tn Methadone is still a narcotic, and does nothing for pain, right? That sounds like the exact opposite of what I need?
Avatar f tn t remember what it felt lilke to feel normal without narcotic opiates. i could not remember what it felt like to not have to plan my week (life) around where and when i would get my next "batch"... that is no way to live your one and only life. opioids grab hold of you and grab hold of your life. they take away your social life and all your money. remember when a few 5mg vicodin would make you feel invincible and ultra-energetic?
Avatar f tn I would not be able to deal with an acute attack (while functioning in my job) without strong narcotic medication. In addition, I use some narcotic medication for the chronic pain (but I try to keep that to a minimum... use things like tramadol instead of oxycodone.) Here is my advise regarding your question. Only you can determine your level of pain.
Avatar f tn Narcotic bowel syndrome (NBS) is a subset of opioid bowel dysfunction that is characterized by chronic or frequently recurring abdominal pain that worsens with continued or escalating dosages of narcotics. This syndrome is underrecognized and may be becoming more prevalent. In the United States this may be the result of increases in using narcotics for chronic nonmalignant painful disorders, and the development of maladaptive therapeutic interactions around its use.
