ve been given every cough suppressant from tussionex to robotussin with codine, to no avail. The cough only stops for a few hours once i'm so exhausted that i fall asleep for a few hours. I've had a CT (for elevated DDimer) and a chest xray within the past week, both clean. I'm now to the point where my normal breaths wheeze on the way in and out, and even if i try to breath through my nose, i still make wheezing. I'm clear so far as pertussis.

sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. Does anyone know anything about this cough syrup.?it is supposedly time released and I don't how that works. What is the deal with this stuff everyone says it's very dangerous but no one says why.

My addiction started around 1 1/2 to 2 years ago when I had a chronic cough and was given Tussionex - wow how I loved that stuff. It totally stopped my coughing and made you feel great. I took that stuff for heck months...until I was diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back - well as luck would have it I was prescribed Vicodin with has the same crap in it as the cough medicine Tussionex had. Well long story short I have finally come to my senses and gave it all up. I can do it...

im am addicted to this and hycodan at the same timw for about 3 years i take about a 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of tussionex a day i have drank 3 and 4 ounces in a day many times with ease thought and put any where from 2 tsp to a whole ounce in sprit and i never dont have a cup i also take klodipin i take 2 to 4 mgs a day and take at least 100mg of lortab about ten 10mgs a day but sometimes it does reach up to 20 tens a day plus the cough syrups how bad is my withdrawl for the codiene going to be i

If the medication is strictly for cough from collapsing trachea, or kennel cough than any cough suppressant should be effective. Prescription cough suppressants are usually human preparations that contain codeine or hydrocodone. Many of these are available in combination with an anti-histamine in a cough syrup and some are in tablet form. Your vet can give you a prescription of one that is appropriate for your dog's condition and the medication can be filled at a human pharmacy.

Thank you for your comments, Dr. It was only that one incident (thank goodness) - personally, I do think it was the Tussionex. I am much better - except for the residual cough. It's pretty much non-productive but hanging on. Others who have had this cold say the same thing. I've been taking honey and drinking lots of warm/hot liquids.

I listened to a pod cast and they highly recommended using brown or dark honey as a cough suppressant and said it worked better than OTC cough medicine we buy and take. I know you can't give honey to kiddos under 1 but has anyone ever tried this for a cough with success?

I'm in my 19th week of triple tx for 48 weeks, now all of a sudden I have this persistent cough! It keeps my husband and I wake, once I start coughing I can't stop. Is this ANOTHER side effect. once there was a little girl, or lady that had been diagnosed with chronic broncitis and chronic cough. This was often helped by the prescription given to her by her loving doctor, it was tussionex. After having this problem for years, one year, 2009 in January, this lady's illness was much worse than ever before. So the tussionex was prescribed again and again and again, hoping that after many tests, the problem would be solved and she could come off the tussionex.

I just had that virus too and you will want to take a suppressant to help reduce how much you cough.....a cold or virus can trigger symptoms to increase as can stress from our daily lives.....anything can cause the symptoms to change. Is it ok to take a mentol cough suppressant/ oral anesthetic while taking zoloft? I have a reeeeeeeally bad uncontrollable cough because of my allergies. I havent been able to find any relief so im trying these vapodrops by Vick's. I'm supposed to take 2 but only taken one and I feel uneasy all of a sudden. Is it ok to take these while on zoloft for anxiety?

I agree with the doctor that I had a reaction to the Tussionex, but I'm wondering why it affected me so long after I initially took it (I didn't have any symptoms for the first 7-8 hours). s when it can fester and become a secondary bacterial infection (bronchitis, sinusitis). For a cough, I use Delsom which is an otc cough suppressant. But coughs are usually actually a good thing as the reason for it is to move congestion through your system. Don't move it? That's again when secondary bacterial infections can happen. I personally take ibuprofen or tylenol, drink lots of nice tea, take my mucinex, maybe some honey and rest. That gets me through most viruses.

hi, how do u feel on days when u don't take it besides the cough? I know for me, when i finally stopped taking vicodin totally, i did have a cough & learned that the vicodin was actually a cough suppressant so it was a common w/d effect. I don't know if it is the same with the oxy.
