Avatar m tn Good Doctors will not prescribe medication unless necessary. If I go to my Doctor and say "I feel fine", she will not prescribe anything unless a blood test states otherwise. For example, if you are rushed to hospital because you are having a stroke, do you A) have clot busting medication , OR B) say "don't worry, I will eat fruit and veg instead".
55646 tn?1263664409 Those are LIFE THREATENING condtions that can actually be detected with other tests besides a blood test. I am saying that just a HSV 2 blood test is NO WAY to simply diagnose someone with HSV 2 that is not fair to the patient and it is irresponsible Medical care. "First of all, the test is about $100, which is very competitive with the ELISA HerpeSelect in most settings.
4939681 tn?1361302899 But people have had proof of infection because blood that's donated is 'labeled' as to who and where the blood came from and also who received it. What I don't know is---- will there be any blood left from the 'donor' to test for presence of Babs? "On the basis of laboratory and epidemiologic information, we concluded that the patient acquired the infection via transfusion of infected PRBCs donated in a disease-endemic area thousands of miles away." http://wwwnc.cdc.
Avatar n tn Simple question here, has anyone ever had a negative blood test and negative urine test and went on with their daily routine and a month or so later found out you were in fact pregnant while having ultrasound done. If this has happened to anyone or perhaps someone you know, please respond, I'd appreciate the information. Thanks.
Avatar f tn A psychiatrist told me denial can be a good thing it keeps us from flipping out over overwhelming things. A diagnosis of MS is overwhelming. It is a chronic disease and they are hard to accept. It took me over a year to understand MS and accept it. You have o-bands in CSF and you can have them in your blood. That is why they take blood at the same time as a LP. With MS they typically only find o-bands in the CSF not the serum. I have learned to live with it and be happy by accepting it.
Avatar m tn I've been having pains in my penis for last 4 weeks (near where the head meets the shaft) Chlamydia and Gonorrhea urine culture came back negative. My question is... 1. If she has some blood in her mouth from a cut in her mouth/on her tongue along with her saliva (which I may have noticed) ,can that get into my anus and give me HIV? 2. Can these pains be HIV related from my exposures above?
Avatar f tn I saw in the Expert Forum a statment by Dr. said, in quotes..... " Further, HIV blood test results are always more reliable than symptoms, and your negative test at 8 weeks is highly reassuring; 98-99% of newly infected people have positive tests by then. Equally important, the test always become positive pretty soon after onset of symptoms; if your symptoms were due to HIV, your 8 week test would have been positive."......... That statement kind of confused me.
Avatar m tn i understand, but the thing is, her blood was directly on the spot where my healing sore was. isnt that considered blood to blood contact? thats what leaves me worried. sorry if im obsessing, its just leaving me extremely worried.

Avatar n tn She is in great health but recently, out of the blue she seems to have a drop in blood sugar. At least, that is my assumption. She is very sleepy looking and wants to go to sleep and is hard to keep awake. When give a little candy or some sweet tea she perks up within 15 minutes. Is this normal? Does she have more of a chance of developing diabetes than a child without the diagnosis of ketotic hypoglycemia?
534785 tn?1329595808 and absence of pupillary light reflection, which I am only now noticing) As much as I want this thing out of my head, this phrase makes my blood run cold: "Removal of pineal region tumors is associated with high mortality and morbidity." =( (
Avatar n tn I thought nothing of it until I went to donate blood yesterday. After reading the rear of the donor sheet about HIV (they really get you thinking) and thinking about it last night I became very nervous about the possibility of catching HIV from that encounter. I am scared that if I did I could infect someone else. Am I being over worried about this? Should I go for testing?
Tbd It's good advice that if you don't know anything about herbs and don't like reading about things, don't use them without professional help. The same is true for medication. The same is true for therapy. I agree with this part. I only put this in because the history of medicine is very little known because our profit driven system is oligarchical, and therefore the biggest players drive what we see and hear.
228686 tn?1211558307 It's no big secret that the American Economy (among others) is tanking quickly. The next six months are looking fairly grim. So in true American Spirit; employers everywhere are taking advantage of the situation by hiring qualified workers at slashed salaries and working them to the bone (note the sarcasm above). Not surprisingly, many of these employees are complaining (online mostly; in secret) of unfair working conditions.
Avatar f tn because she wanted to see how my immune system was doing since my original blood test last month. (There again immune system, not dna and blood system.) My acupuncturist was fascinated by the print out from the LLMD. She herself being a RN at one time, also was concerned about the high doses of abx's, but agreed on the supplemental and exercise routine. She is thus treating my immune system. This whole thing is like a crap shoot in which route one has to journey on to overcome this.
Avatar m tn The low cardiac output is the sytem's reaction as though there is a loss or losing blood. It is true the beta blocker maintains a lower heart rate, but it also stabilizes the heart rate to prevent arrhythmia (very fast heart rate that can harmful for some individuals).
Avatar n tn Sorry for the weird question, it's just it's so confusing when they tell us you can get HIV or any other STD while having protected sex, and then I hear, it's difficult to get from vaginal sex. So which is it?
Avatar n tn Experts here also don't encourage people to take blood tests for HSV2 unless visible lesions. I understand the frustration. I experience prodrome sensations from time to time with no visible trace of anything. This also started after a drunken sex worker encounter and yes, I also freaked out and regretted it. Take comfort in that the expert in this site MD HHH - believes that most people would present with some visible lesion in the first three weeks after a risky encounter.
Avatar n tn This would mean you are positive for hepatitis c antibodies which means you were exposed at sometime in the past. However, you test not detected for the hep c virus itself in your blood meaning you do not have any hep c virus circulating in your blood stream and you are not currently infected. If you were exposed to hep c in the past about 25% of people beat the virus without any treatment. You will test positive for hep c antibodies but not detected for the hep c virus itself.
Avatar f tn Second, even in the case where there is HIV blood -- and this has only been true with hollow bore needles -- the chance of getting HIV is .3% and the needle has to have been in the HIV+ person pretty deep. You need to discuss this with your doctor. Describe the situation. But you are at a very low risk for getting HIV this way. As far as an infected person -- and we don't know if you are --- can transmit HIV to a baby.

I am supposed to be attending UNCG in 3 weeks and I would really love go to, but I don't see that being possible in the condition I am in now. This has ruined my life, I would be SO HAPPY to have it back..

I would also add an increased risk of suicide to this list. The second article (

Avatar n tn Second set of questions, no, I don't think that is true. I have read recently on the board that a blood test for Celiac is not very acurate, but I don't know how true that is, either. I'd have to see reputable medical studies or reports before I believed any of the things you asked about. Just my opinion. It would take facts to change that opinion.
Avatar m tn 3) Is it true that 80% of sexually active individuals will have intercourse with someone with genital herpes (HSV2) at one point in their lives? This is a quote from Dr.Handsfield, which also alleviates my concern. But I am not sure if he meant HPV and the abbreviation was misspelled to HSV2. I appreciate both of your expertise and thank you very much for your service.
