Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal uses and side effects

trileptal

Avatar f tn I am supposed to start trileptal this morning but worried about the side effects particularly dizzines. Has anyone had these symptoms? what are the likelyhood that I would become dizzy and nauseas while taking trileptal? I will be starting out w/ 150mg twice daily for 3 days then increasing?
Avatar m tn That went away and now its light weakness and numbness in the left side of my body. I am taking 1200 mg and am supposed to see a neurologist tomorrow hoping he will take it off. Any advice or feedback???
1212999 tn?1272305203 thanks for your answer. i will be talking to her more about maybe adding/switching to a new med. but i hate just switching. i get used to what i take and hate having to get used to a new set of side effects. :) a lot of times i don't think people give their meds enough time to really work because they cannot push through side effects.
Avatar m tn Trileptal is a newer drug than Tegretol (carbamazapine) and is supposed to have less side effects than Tegretol. You do have to have blood tests every three months because it can affect the sodium levels in your blood, which could lead to kidney problems. I went through 6 doctors before I found a Facial Pain Specialist at a large teaching hospital that actually helped me.
2047903 tn?1330187549 I'm wondering if anyone else has numb fingertips as a side effect from Trileptal...I am currently taking 600 mg. I'm also being worked up for MS, so I don't know if this is from the drug I take for TN or from some other cause?? Thanks.
Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
Avatar n tn Less common side effects include cardiac arrhythmias, blurry or double vision and/or the temporary loss of blood cells or platelets and in rare cases can cause aplastic anemia. The symptoms you are experiencing may be due to the effects of your medication. However, before starting or shifting to new medication, I suggest that you discuss this with your doctor first to avoid any adverse effects or seizure brought about by changes in medication. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn After only a week of being on this medication for the stabbing pain behind my right eye I feel horrible do the side effects eventually get better or should I stop taking it
Avatar f tn I never had that particular side effect when I was on Trileptal -- but you should definitely speak to your doctor -- find out if it IS the Trileptal causing the problem and if so -- there are definitely lots of other anti-seizure meds out there that you could be switched to.
1011826 tn?1274492712 The doctor wants to get Lamictal into my system and then decrease Trileptal slowly as our next step. Anyway, any comments on these side effects? Thanks for your help!!
1100992 tn?1262357216 I found Lamictal the most tolerable out of the 3 and it worked specifically on rapid cycling and mixed states and could not tolerate Tegretol, Trileptal and Depakoate because of personality changes (but that's a potential side effect of all anti-convulsants used as mood stabilizers including the one I take now) but each person responds differently to each medication although generally, side effect profile aside as it is the only medication approved as a mood stabilizer before any other usa
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response!! I am trying remain optimistic but Neurontin nor Lyrica have touched the pain. Here's to hoping Trileptal will take the edge off!!
Avatar n tn Can anyone tell me at what dose of trileptal you got some relief from the constant crawling, burning, crushing type pains? Also does the side effect of nausea and just feeling crappy all over from trileptal eventually subside. I also have MS. Thank you. I am hoping and praying that this drug will help. I am scared that there may not be another option as my MS neuro is advising against surgery, including gamma knife.
1108262 tn?1273179266 You can't always blame the drugs. Oxcarbazepine has different effects and side effects in different people. I also use it and has no issues YET, except the grogginess and drowsiness in the first week. Hope we all do good.
2015036 tn?1332997788 Just started tegretrol this week so far no side effects. I am weaning off lyrica for the 2nd time so I hope it works this go around.
Avatar n tn that is why they do blood work and have us watch for things and let us know what changes are happening, and will work with us to stop the medicine if they are having side effects that out way the risk. hope this helps and you should also talk to the doctor about everything you are feeling even if you have to ask it every time you see them.because this your child and you have every right to know everything there is to know.

Avatar f tn Where I come from (Egypt) pdocs are more accustomed to writing tegretol. They also say since it is old the complications and side effects are known to them. Lamictal in all yahooforums is more reputable i 've seen everybody on it. except for rashes. but tegretol does too. I would have thought - contrary to what you sai- that tegretol is more effective because all pdocs have 3 options (lithium, depakot, tregretol) so it is thought the 3 most effective.
Avatar f tn You do need a working mood stabilizer. Just ask about a different one. Tegretol isn't used quite as much now due to side effects. Trileptal has mostly replaced it because they are almost identical but Trileptal doesn't have certain side effects so they don't need to do blood tests. The 3 standards are lithium, Depakoate and Lamictal.
5032487 tn?1365824021 I am currently on Topamax and have been for over a year now.....when I was first put on it I lost 25 pounds. Then as my body adjusted to it the weight loss has stopped. I just has my dosage increased about a week ago and have lost an additional 5 pounds since then.... Topamax is a anti-convulsant and is used in Bipolar patients as an off-label med....
233622 tn?1279334905 ve been on trileptal, topomax, lamotrigene, keppra, gabapentin(neurontin) and lyrica. Side effects made me stop the first three, a suspected side effect stopped me from taking the keppra, though we know now that it wasn't the med (my facial sensory stuff), I have only been given the last two for nerve pain. My neuro put me on gabapentin (neurontin), to work on my seizures, and the rib pain (which was the first neuropathic pain my gp recognized).
397118 tn?1219762250 well i did look into it and somnolence sorry if it is spelled wrong is one of its side effects.
728313 tn?1260459629 t have epilepsy, but my questions is what happens to you possible long term effects from taking it;s medication. I had a Shoppers Drug Mart give me Trileptal 300mg instead of my medication. My memory had changed some what and don't know if it's from it or not. No one has an aswer to why I am still living after taking those meds? For 5 days I had to put up with barely keeping my eyes open and my husband couldn't wake me for two hours?
1011826 tn?1274492712 After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system. Of course this happens on the weekend, otherwise I would have called the pdoc by now-- anyway, let me know. Help is appreciated!
Avatar f tn It sometimes takes awhile to find drugs that work with few side effects. I ended up at a pain clinic run by Duke. There was a lot of trial and error.
