trileptal

1108262 tn?1273179266 DOES ANY ONE TAKE TRILEPTAL FOR BIPOLAR ??? IF SO HOW MUCH AND FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING IT??
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar n tn There is some controversy about using antidepressants such as Zoloft for someone with bipolar depression. Have you consider Lamictal (lamotrigine) or Lithium? Re: Straterra, there have been reports of Straterra causing mania. Definitely not a reason to stop abruptly, but something to discuss with your pdoc. Re: Stelazine, this medication is used for psychosis or short-term for anxiety. How long have you been taking Stelazine?
Avatar f tn Is anyone on here taking Trileptal for bipolar? Any comments or results?
5032487 tn?1365824021 Trileptal is off label for BP, but it's used pretty frequently. It's apparently the new improved version of Tegretol, with fewer side effects. Topomax is also used off label, but it's gotten the nickname of dopomax because it causes cognitive issues in a fair number of people. It does tend to make you lose weight, though. I personally would go for Trileptal above Topomax, but I'm doing fine on Lamictal so it's a bit of a moot point.
Avatar f tn Trileptal is an anticonvulsant (used as a mood stabilizer for bipolar), and Lexapro is an antidepressant called an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor). If you are having problems with mania you might want to talk to your doctor about adding an antipsychotic. There are so many too many to list and there can be so many different combinations too. You should talk to your doctor about the specific symptoms you are having...
915369 tn?1355314810 m not finding sites that say it can be used for bipolar. Does anybody know if it actually works well? Had anybody else even been on it? I was also wondering what happens after I run our of medication to try? My psychiatrist said there's only two left, Seroquel and one that started with a "T". What happens if neither of those work?
574118 tn?1305135284 Right now I am manic with mixed states and rapid cycling. seroquel takes care of that. I saw my pdoc as i was convinced that it's time to add a mood stabilizer like the usual therapy. Back in time, I didn't tolerate neither tegretol nor lamictal. what is left is lithium or valproate. of course there are less famous drugs like trileptal, topamax,..... i took 2 pills of lithium and i had serious insomnia for 2 days, intolerable, dry mouth,...the usual.
Avatar f tn Neurontin, Topomax, Keppra, Trileptal, Lovaza (anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar it works like fish oil but is an FDA approved medication) and Clonidine (which I take having exhausted all other options). Those are only the ones I've tried and am familiar with. I wouldn't reccomend one over the other but speak to your psychiatrist about any of these options (or others listed on that site which is clinically accurate).
Avatar m tn You may want to post this on Neurology forum if you are using Trileptal for seizure disorder or using it off-label for anxiety, depression or Bipolar Disorder. http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn Holiday blues can affect anyone, especially people with things like bipolar disorder. Depressive episodes I don't think are required for bipolar disorder 1 to be diagnosed and only mania is required but they frequently occur. With psychotic features just means you experience psychotic symptoms when manic and/or depressed but particularly while manic.
Avatar f tn His neurologist recently added Trileptal to balance his levels because he was having seizures so often. His therapist also prescribed him Celexal and Elavil for depression medication due to bipolar disorder. Now it seems that the 2 anti-depressants have a side effect of seizures, which causes him to seize more than usual. Should the 4 meds be mixed, Keppra, Celexa, Elavil and Trileptal?
Avatar f tn As for mood stabilizers you can go to the links page but assuming you tried Lithium and Depakoate (which are the most used mood stabilizers) there is Trileptal, Topomax, Keppra and Neurontin. Those are more in use. Lovaza is an anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar and it works in the same manner as fish oil. That is FDA approved and has shown promising results.
5153554 tn?1365430705 The day before yesterday he told me he was only taking one Trileptal a day because it made him too sleepy. When he brandished the bottle of Trileptal in my face as evidence he was taking them it seemed suspiciously full. Meanwhile he's been holed up in his room playing video games non-stop all hours of the night, sleeping all day. Leaves only to go to his PT job. His room is like a bat cave. Dark & gloomy.
Avatar m tn I took ect from 4/2008 to 7/2009 and ended up with all kinds of problems. My memory is terrible, short term and long term. I've been on trileptal for 3 yrs and seroquel for a year. The seroquel helps but I put on a lot of weight. I'll never go back to ect.
Avatar n tn t have the same risk of blood dyscreias so there is no need for regular blood tests. Trileptal is gradually replacing Tegretol which is less in use now as Trileptal is much safer but has the same effect on mood stabilization. You should ask your psychiatrist about that. If you have any more questions about benefits issues ask me as I volunteer and do advocacy in that area. I'm sure there's a way you can find coverage.
Avatar m tn It causes mania and psychosis in bipolar people. It put me into mania both times I used it for my foot pain. I have plantar faciitis and it was used to bring down my inflamation. Anyhow, any steroid causes mania in bipolar people. Hope this helps.
574118 tn?1305135284 I started on an anti-convulsant used off label for my physical disability that is brand new and I was not very surprised that it stopped both the dysphoric mania that is neurological in origin and standard rapid cycling (which I didn't realize was going on but should have, staying up until 3 AM. is a good clue).
Avatar f tn If a person has epilepsy since they were a child and requires an anti-convulsant it should be noted that some anti-convulsants are used as mood stabilizers such as Depakoate, Trileptal, Keppra and of course Lamictal (and others) but the dosage and adjustment for bipolar would be different. Since some medications can on occassion raise the seizure threshold it would involve a close conversation between your neurologist and psychiatrist as for what medication is right for you.
967145 tn?1247497890 As for Tegretol it is not used as much now because Trileptal is basically the same medication but has far less of a potential to create blood discreias so it does not require blood tests. As for a complete list of mood stabilizers that are currently available this list should be of help: http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/meds/moodstabilizers.htm and this site should as well: http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.
Avatar n tn Concerta and Trileptal are for ADHD and Mood Stabilizers usually for Anxiety yes. The Prevacid is a stomach acid reducer. Geodan is a bipolar medication. Depending on how long he has been on them, he may have an allergic reaction. Id research.
5101703 tn?1363720186 Abilify is a third-generation antipsychotic, and also used a fair amount. The CrazyMeds website can give you info on almost everything that gets used for bipolar treatment, and it's a great starting point for figuring out what you want so you can bring it to the table at your appointments rather than having to passively agree with whatever the doctor says.
Avatar f tn Yes, I have used for TN and simultaneous leg pain. It works well with few side effects (drowsy at first which resolves with use).
Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
Avatar f tn unfortunately, a lot of these meds do cause problems with weight gain. However, if you can possibly try to set yourself up on a plan (sometimes it takes forcing yourself at that beginning), to get out and walk everyday, it will help you a lot. It helps with the weight and with the mood. My son has this problem. He has bipolar schizoaffective disorder. He is on Clozaril, Effexor and Trileptal.
Avatar n tn I did feel like I was getting a little pain relief while on the Trileptal. Just hoping Tegretol works for me. Want to get out of this constant pain so I can get back to doing the everyday things I used to enjoy.
