Trileptal use in children

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal use in children

trileptal

Avatar f tn Due to the severe burning sensation I have in my hands from my current MS flare up, my neuro has put me on Trileptal. I have read great things about this med in regards to TN but not much about peripheral nerves. Anyone have any experience with this med for burning sensation NOT on the face? Hope you all are well!!
Avatar n tn I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.
Avatar m tn A friend of mine gets his Depakote from there it is so much cheaper, Trileptal I think in generic was $43 for 100 (150mg) generics. Check it out, they will tell you who makes it and what country, most are from Canada. PS.I know this stream is not really for this forum, but knowing where to get safe and cheap medicine is relevant for us all.
Avatar n tn currently 6ml in the a.m. and 8ml in the p.m. (the concentration is 300mg/5ml.) About 2 weeks ago, his dose of Trileptal was increased from 6ml twice a day to the present dosage (because he was still having some mild break-through seizures). Around the same time, his teacher has mentioned that he is not "listening" well to her directions, and sometimes she has to re-explain her directions to him.
1108262 tn?1273179266 t control, one so badly I ended up in an emergency room with a neurologist questioning if the Trileptal was causing the problem. After getting a new psych doctor and a therapist, we all decided to work together to get me off of Trileptal, as the pdoc felt it had not really helped me, and the therapist helped me deal with the depression and anxiety as well. Pdoc also was worried about the hyponatremia and "twitches".
664798 tn?1225821618 This is the first time I've seen anyone in here ask this question,....uh....Apparently it can and does effect your siezure condition if your meds are of a specific type, I had a severe epsiode back in december 08 and had to be put in a COMA because of the fact that I began hallucinating badly after I had just stopped tasking the chantix. I stopped taking chantix because of the nightmares it caused me,...Nightmares I'd rather forget about,.....
666129 tn?1225302040 I have been on it for only 5 months. I have had no lasting problems so far. It has completely stopped my seizures. I have TLE. Yes I was also told the same thing about being on it forever... I don't know how long the drug has been out in the US. Guess we need to do some research. Stay in touch.
Avatar n tn The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now. Can anyone tell me at what dose of trileptal you got some relief from the constant crawling, burning, crushing type pains? Also does the side effect of nausea and just feeling crappy all over from trileptal eventually subside. I also have MS. Thank you.
1011826 tn?1274492712 Anyone had any withdrawal side effects relating to Trileptal? Any suggestions in dealing with it? Anyone who has dealt with the same thing? My symptoms are that I am having horrible anxiety, insomnia and irritability since reducing my dosage of Trileptal this week. Backstory: I am switching from Trileptal to Lamictal over a long period of time.
Avatar f tn s common or uncommon but its not rare. Trileptal is similar clinically but better in one way in that the blood test is not required. I found that lithium worked well but had some trouble tolerating it for other reasons that were physical but did very well on Lamictal especially on rapid cycling. Each person reacts diffferently though. Speak to your psychiatrist about what is going on and if other options might be considered.
Avatar m tn My neurologist agreed to recommend Trileptal, but says I am being unrealistic to think I can get off Gabapentin in addition to Tegretol, as I am still experiencing pain using both, and higher doses really affect me in various ways. Since I am a Vet and going through the Veterans Administration, he said that the Trileptol needs to be approved by the pharmacy. If it is not approved, I won't be able to get it.
Avatar n tn Trileptal is gradually replacing Tegretol which is less in use now as Trileptal is much safer but has the same effect on mood stabilization. You should ask your psychiatrist about that. If you have any more questions about benefits issues ask me as I volunteer and do advocacy in that area. I'm sure there's a way you can find coverage. And if you are unable to work because of your disability apply for SSI/SSDI now not later so you can be eligible.
Avatar n tn My son just turned 4 in June--seizures started in March w/a grand mal. He's now on trileptal--unsure if we should go to zonogran. He's been have short seizures - yesterday 9 which was tyhe most--since he's been on that med. He's had seizure free days but it's unbelievable how he'll just short out!! I don't know what to do - he has a bad temper @ times from the meds OR the seizures--I'm afraid the Zonogram may make him worse????
Avatar m tn I am on 900mg of trileptal and had a healthy baby boy in 2013. I am still on the same meds and currently 10 weeks preggo again. Good luck.
4980051 tn?1361868778 Ask about trileptal! I have been experiencing chronic migraines for > 20 years now, and until trileptal, no other preventative meds have helped. I currently use Imitrex and/or Maxalt (generic, of course) for migraine attacks, but was often running out of meds before I was able to refill (lovely insurance companies dictating how many days one can have relief from pain). Although I had heard good things about maxalt, I am unable to use it d/t some other health concerns.
Avatar f tn I had very severe side effects w/Trileptal. I have been on this drug for about 1 year. In August, I was rushed to the ER with severe dizziness and headache (missed my trip to Hawaii!!!). Neutremia was discovered at this time. I have been going to doctors since trying to find the cause. My neurologist found the problem yesterday...yes, it is Trileptal. Side effects I have had recently are neutremia, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, headache....seeing my psych doc next week.

Avatar n tn Hi thebunn, Seizures has many possible causes, it could be illness, abnormal brain development, and in your case, brain injury. The main component of Trileptal is Oxcarbazepine, indicated in the treatment of partial and generalized toni-clonic seizures, just like in your case. It can be used alone or in combination with other antiepileptic drugs. If you are using this alone, usually, therapy is initiated in 2 divided doses and may be increases depending on the response of the patient.
207227 tn?1271416978 I am concerned about side effects and how children do on this medication. Does anyone have experience with this drug in children? I am also wondering if she really needs it. Is this a life stress situation or an actual mood disorder. Concerned. Any help or advice greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I just started taking oxcarbazepine 9 days ago and I built up to 300 mg,no high not even close. Not like with other drugs like oxycontin, were with in 30 min you get a buzz.I guess you have to take higher doses if thats were you want to go,but I dont know.
Avatar m tn My wife has been taking Tegretol 200mg X 3 tines a day, this has caused her to be disorientated and nauseous & still in pain, she is trying Trileptal 300mg X 3, whilst cutting out the Tegretol. My question is how much Trileptal can she take ??????
925572 tn?1246540031 Trileptal is clinically similar to Tegretol but because of the way it was updated its safer and doesn't require bloodwork. For some people its a good mood stabilizer. It depends. My experience wasn't favorable but I know for some people I know it was and it would work as an adjunct to Lamictal. The side effect profile is reasonably similar to Tegretol and its effectiveness about the same. You could look it up more on the websites we have linked up or the medication website itself.
Avatar n tn However, its less of a mood stabilizer so you might need to take one in addition and generally Lamictal is the least sedating out of the mood stabilizers in conventional use. You could speak to your psychiatrist about that as well.
Avatar m tn What is the most effective dosing schedule should I use for Carbamazepine? Would that be 4 pills 4 times per day? Or perhaps 5 pills 3 times per day? Or 3 pills 5 times per day (i.e. - Getting up in the middle of the night for a dose.)? I feel right now my schedule is rather willy-nilly... I don't want to be taking this many pills but I can feel huge pain is coming my way so I take 2 more, etc. Sometimes I "go fetal" I am in so much pain.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
