trileptal use

Due to the severe burning sensation I have in my hands from my current MS flare up, my neuro has put me on Trileptal. I have read great things about this med in regards to TN but not much about peripheral nerves. Anyone have any experience with this med for burning sensation NOT on the face? Hope you all are well!!

DOES ANY ONE TAKE TRILEPTAL FOR BIPOLAR ??? IF SO HOW MUCH AND FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING IT??

The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now. Can anyone tell me at what dose of trileptal you got some relief from the constant crawling, burning, crushing type pains? Also does the side effect of nausea and just feeling crappy all over from trileptal eventually subside. I also have MS. Thank you.

After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system. Of course this happens on the weekend, otherwise I would have called the pdoc by now-- anyway, let me know. Help is appreciated!

I am a sax, flute, clarinet player with Trigeminal Neuralgia. Very annoing to have daily pain when practicing my proffesion. Have been taking Carbamezapine and lately Gabapentine, which both cause Erectile Disfunction. Have read that Oxcarbazepine does not have this side effect. Have not convinced my neurologist to let me switch meds. What success have people had using Oxcarbazepine for TN, and does it also cause ED? I don't want to use either carbamezapine or gabapentine if possible.

I tried tegretol once for a month but gave me headaches that was the only MS i used before my today lamictal. In the USA they don't use it anymore because it's interactive with other drugs. Trileptal is its cousin though weaker and as IL said doesn't need blood test. Incidentally lamictal sometimes they mix it with depakote it says in its brochure. I wonder why he recommends tegretol. Is it he is suggesting any MS and that's all.

Trileptal is gradually replacing Tegretol which is less in use now as Trileptal is much safer but has the same effect on mood stabilization. You should ask your psychiatrist about that. If you have any more questions about benefits issues ask me as I volunteer and do advocacy in that area. I'm sure there's a way you can find coverage. And if you are unable to work because of your disability apply for SSI/SSDI now not later so you can be eligible.

Ask about trileptal! I have been experiencing chronic migraines for > 20 years now, and until trileptal, no other preventative meds have helped. I currently use Imitrex and/or Maxalt (generic, of course) for migraine attacks, but was often running out of meds before I was able to refill (lovely insurance companies dictating how many days one can have relief from pain). Although I had heard good things about maxalt, I am unable to use it d/t some other health concerns.

I am supposed to start trileptal this morning but worried about the side effects particularly dizzines. Has anyone had these symptoms? what are the likelyhood that I would become dizzy and nauseas while taking trileptal? I will be starting out w/ 150mg twice daily for 3 days then increasing?

I did Trileptal instead. I had no issues with it. Then I went to a pain clinic where they think outside the box. They had me on so much medication before the pain clinic it was not funny with each symptom they upped dosages or added pills. I was a walking Pharmacy. I was on 4 anti seizures at once. Now I am on none. They have to keep tweaking at the pain clinic and it takes time, but I take way less medication and do not feel as gross from side effects.

My wife has been taking Tegretol 200mg X 3 tines a day, this has caused her to be disorientated and nauseous & still in pain, she is trying Trileptal 300mg X 3, whilst cutting out the Tegretol. My question is how much Trileptal can she take ??????

I've been taking these two for 2 months. 1800 mg trileptal 10 mg abilify. i'm doing a lot better (rages getting under control, manic moods lowered) but i'm still so depressed. my irritability is still off the charts. do you think adding another med will be the most likely next step or will my doc just keep raising my dosages?

I was on Trileptal for a while. After that my psychiatrist transferred me to Lamictal. It took some time to have the withdrawal symptoms to pass (and the efficacy of the other medication to start) but it settled after some time. Generally things begin to improve within a few weeks. As long as you followed your psychiatrist's titration schedule it should be fine. Keep your psychiatrist updated on how you are doing and they will know how to follow up.

Trileptal is clinically similar to Tegretol but because of the way it was updated its safer and doesn't require bloodwork. For some people its a good mood stabilizer. It depends. My experience wasn't favorable but I know for some people I know it was and it would work as an adjunct to Lamictal. The side effect profile is reasonably similar to Tegretol and its effectiveness about the same. You could look it up more on the websites we have linked up or the medication website itself.

currently 6ml in the a.m. and 8ml in the p.m. (the concentration is 300mg/5ml.) About 2 weeks ago, his dose of Trileptal was increased from 6ml twice a day to the present dosage (because he was still having some mild break-through seizures). Around the same time, his teacher has mentioned that he is not "listening" well to her directions, and sometimes she has to re-explain her directions to him.

What is the most effective dosing schedule should I use for Carbamazepine? Would that be 4 pills 4 times per day? Or perhaps 5 pills 3 times per day? Or 3 pills 5 times per day (i.e. - Getting up in the middle of the night for a dose.)? I feel right now my schedule is rather willy-nilly... I don't want to be taking this many pills but I can feel huge pain is coming my way so I take 2 more, etc. Sometimes I "go fetal" I am in so much pain.

I am on zyprexa and I taqke it at night and it works great for me. Have you had your thyroid checked? Blurred vision and fogginess are a symptom of hypothyroid. Get it tested and let me know what you find out.

I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.

I'm wondering if anyone else has numb fingertips as a side effect from Trileptal...I am currently taking 600 mg. I'm also being worked up for MS, so I don't know if this is from the drug I take for TN or from some other cause?? Thanks.

t have epilepsy, but my questions is what happens to you possible long term effects from taking it;s medication. I had a Shoppers Drug Mart give me Trileptal 300mg instead of my medication. My memory had changed some what and don't know if it's from it or not. No one has an aswer to why I am still living after taking those meds? For 5 days I had to put up with barely keeping my eyes open and my husband couldn't wake me for two hours?

To take this test my doctor weened me off Trileptal over a three week period. After off the drug for a couple weeks my symptoms returned - full force. Now after two weeks back on, I'm feeling much better. Any ideas?
