Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
1108262 tn?1273179266 You can't always blame the drugs. Oxcarbazepine has different effects and side effects in different people. I also use it and has no issues YET, except the grogginess and drowsiness in the first week. Hope we all do good.
5032487 tn?1365824021 I am currently on Topamax and have been for over a year now.....when I was first put on it I lost 25 pounds. Then as my body adjusted to it the weight loss has stopped. I just has my dosage increased about a week ago and have lost an additional 5 pounds since then.... Topamax is a anti-convulsant and is used in Bipolar patients as an off-label med....
Avatar n tn t know what they specifically treat in bipolar disorder, but if it works similar to antipsychotics in the disorder, it would probably be better to switch to an anticonvulsant rather than continue taking an antipsychotic, provided it works for you. Prolonged usage of antipsychotics can have permanent side effects, but not always.
Avatar n tn i've been on stelazine for about a year now along with the rest of the meds i started strattera about last month...
Avatar f tn I am supposed to start trileptal this morning but worried about the side effects particularly dizzines. Has anyone had these symptoms? what are the likelyhood that I would become dizzy and nauseas while taking trileptal? I will be starting out w/ 150mg twice daily for 3 days then increasing?
Avatar f tn Is anyone on here taking Trileptal for bipolar? Any comments or results?
Avatar f tn So I have been diagnosed by two different psychiatrists the first said bipolar II the second cyclomania. Also been diagnosed with ADHD but cannot take meds for it because of bipolar. Or maybe I am just bipolar and was misdiagnosed...anyways I have irritability, anger, mild depression, hypomania, am very figity, have sleeping problems...
1967424 tn?1325633780 s mainly side effects that are bothering you, trileptal is related but has fewer side effects, although bipolar is an off-label use of trileptal. Lamictal is good for depression. There's also the atypical antipsychotics, like seroquel and geodon, or the third generation antipsychotic abilify. They all have mood stabilizing properties, although most of them can cause weight gain.
Avatar f tn well you should tell teh doctor what is going on with your husband, and that he is having side effects. no they should not be mixed no matter what. hope he gets better!
Avatar n tn You need to get coverage and get back on Tegretol. If you are not working you would be eligible for Medicaid. You can get emergency Medicaid by going to the local emergency room. If you are working there is a program called the "Medicaid Buy in for Working People with Disabilities" in most states where you can work and still be eligible for Medicaid as long as you have a disability and of course bipolar qualifies as a disability.
Avatar n tn Therapy lies in identifying the allergens and avoiding them and anti histamines. His symptoms could also be due to side effects of his medications. Discuss these options with his consulting doctor. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Trileptal is a newer drug than Tegretol (carbamazapine) and is supposed to have less side effects than Tegretol. You do have to have blood tests every three months because it can affect the sodium levels in your blood, which could lead to kidney problems. I went through 6 doctors before I found a Facial Pain Specialist at a large teaching hospital that actually helped me.
574118 tn?1305135284 I've just come off of trying to switch to Seroquel monotherpy. I maxed out on 800mg of Seroquel before I was able to totally get off of lithium and hadn't even started to lower my Lamictal dose. I don't tolerate lithium well and side effects have gotten much worse over time. Lamictal has been okay for me as long as we watch the dose - it's very reactive to hormones and that has been a huge problem. Was soooo looking forward to only one mood stabilizer...
Avatar n tn Trileptal is off label for bipolar, but it apparently has fewer side effects than Tegretol and apparently works just as well. Tegretol interacts with a LOT of things, and needs blood tests, but Trileptal at least doesn't need the blood tests. Those are all in the anticonvulsant class. In the atypical antipsychotics class, Geodon and Abilify are supposed to be weight neutral (olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic that is known for weight gain).
909257 tn?1242668182 Pain medications have numerous side effects and those who do take pain meds on a regular basis do usually have some kind of depression due to the fact that they do have chronic pain but as far as the meds causing depression or bipolar no I do not believe so.
Avatar f tn he said the side effects were not good and he quit taking the medication. Two days ago he got angry over something trivial and again today slamming doors and yelling at me and our kids.
585414 tn?1288941302 On this subject I would defer to my psychiatrist and work with them for this - I have never experienced a mood stabiliser that makes bipolar worse but some of them have side effects that can exacerbate things - suicidal iteration for example.
Avatar f tn After only a week of being on this medication for the stabbing pain behind my right eye I feel horrible do the side effects eventually get better or should I stop taking it
5544493 tn?1369608788 If the side effects look scary, go look up the full side effects profile for an OTC drug you use often (like ibuprofen), which will give you an idea of how scary the full side effects profiles sound.
Avatar f tn I never had that particular side effect when I was on Trileptal -- but you should definitely speak to your doctor -- find out if it IS the Trileptal causing the problem and if so -- there are definitely lots of other anti-seizure meds out there that you could be switched to.
1100992 tn?1262357216 If so, what are your side effects like? Does it do a good job with managing symptoms? Any other reason why you love it or hate it?
1212999 tn?1272305203 If the Trileptal is raised you may encounter these side effects at an increased rate. It might make sense for your psychiatrist to add another medication but there may be some interactions so he might want to change or adjust the medications you are on but that's their decision. This is a list of all current mood stabilizers that you could discuss with them: http://www.psycheducation.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response!! I am trying remain optimistic but Neurontin nor Lyrica have touched the pain. Here's to hoping Trileptal will take the edge off!!
