trileptal

738075 tn?1330575844 I missed your orignial posting. I am sorry to hear of your TN. I, too, have bilateral TN. Trileptal is a wonder drug when it comes to TN. Once you acclimate to the Trileptal it's a life saver. Unfortynatley , I had to stop taking due to too much sodium loss (my kidneys were misbehaving). I am SO glad to hear that it is improving!! Wishing you continued sucess with treatng this extremely paiful disorder.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia. When I first started taking trileptal the pain completely went away and I was sure I was cured. But only within three weeks I was woken up with the same pain again, though not as severe as before. The pain has made all my top left teeth extremely sensitive which is normal with the condition but now, the left side of my palate is also swollen. I am not sure if this has anything to do with the neuralgia or not.
Avatar m tn I am a sax, flute, clarinet player with Trigeminal Neuralgia. Very annoing to have daily pain when practicing my proffesion. Have been taking Carbamezapine and lately Gabapentine, which both cause Erectile Disfunction. Have read that Oxcarbazepine does not have this side effect. Have not convinced my neurologist to let me switch meds. What success have people had using Oxcarbazepine for TN, and does it also cause ED? I don't want to use either carbamezapine or gabapentine if possible.
Avatar m tn I was dignosed with MS in 2003 after 20 years of off and on symptoms. The last year I have experienced off and on stabbing hot pain down the right side of my head and neck that last for 3 seconds to a minute and comes on at any time of the day or night. It doesn't seem to be associated with head movement or jaw activity. The Doctor says it sounds like Trigeninal Neuralgia but it doesn't seem to follow the same pattern of pain that Trigeninal Neuralgia produces.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was put on Trileptal for the TN. It did relieve it somewhat. What helped the most being on the steroids, and about a week later most of my symptoms improved. I would call your doc and ask if there is another med that might help you even more. Sorry you are going through this, I know how awful it is.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever been prescribed Baclofen for migraines and facial neuralgia?
Avatar f tn My sister in law is diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia ... she is currently on Pregalin 75 for 6 weeks ???
Avatar f tn I have typical Trigeminal Neuralgia and had a Gamma Knife treatment 6 months ago. I was told to begin weaning off my medication (Trileptal). Since reducing the medication by 150 mg, I am once again experiencing TN pain triggered by chewing, talking, washing my face, etc. Is this normal when weaning off anti-seizure medications used for TN?
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia, It started with tumors in my sinus', is it normal to loosen teeth? Also I have been advised to have these tumors removed, what does this entail? I also have Pilocytic Astrocytomas growing towards my brain stem , in the cerebellum and a Venous Angioma, also in the Cerebellum. I also have Tympanosclerosis and am allergic to Morphine. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you, Sharon.
2047903 tn?1330187549 My neuro ordered the typical blood tests for the disorders that mimic MS: lupus, Lyme's, B12, sarcoidosis etc. All have come back negative. So I guess the UBOs in my periventricular and deep white matter, subcortical, as well as the brainstem and cerebellum are a mystery. Today is the day I " up" my dose of Trileptal to get relief from this trigeminal neuralgia. Looks like a groggy weekend is ahead!I just wish I had some closure on what is going on right now.
645390 tn?1338555377 Usually it goes away in about 2-3 days, but not this time. I think it is trigeminal neuralgia, have had it off and on for many years, but it has taken a huge change for the worse lately. I thought it was improving, but I was wrong. It is the right side of the middle of my face, and gives off shooting pain towards the middle of my cheekbone, and then also above that going towards my eye. My skin hurts SO bad.
233622 tn?1279334905 I have been on Tegretol for about 14 years...firstly for seizure control, secondly for pain management for Paratrigeminal Neuralgia (which differs from trigeminal neuralgia). I was intrigued by this drug when I saw your post so I looked into it. The following is copied and pasted from a website explaining anti-seizure meds... "The seizure control abstained with Trilepital is as good and in some situations better than with Tegretol.
233622 tn?1279334905 I TOOK MY MEDICATION FOR TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA AND I AM ACTUALLY GETTING SOME RELIEF! I AM SO AMAZED,, AND HAPPY!! I WAS TOLD IF IT IS TRULY TN THAT I HAVE THE MEDICATION WOULD WORK QUICKLY. I GUESS THAT IS ONE MORE QUESTION I CAN MARK OFF OF MY LIST! AND I WAS SUCH A CHICKEN THINKING ABOUT TAKING THIS MEDICATION..............
Avatar m tn When she was almost done with the medicine she started having facial pain on the same side of ear infection. Has had MRI and taken meds for the neuralgia to no avail. Seeing Neurologist tomorrow. My question is why did an ear infection cause this? Could it be a vascular compression problem? That would be the easiest to fix with long term results.
2047903 tn?1330187549 I called my current neuro to see if it was a side effect/reaction to Trileptal which I take for trigeminal neuralgia. I finally got a call back from him 3 days later. He says it could or could not be related to the medicine, but basically said to deal with it because the medicine seems to be helping some. My MRI showed lesions and the report states the lesions are consistent with MS. I have symptoms but they are subtle (except for the trigeminal neuralgia...that is far from subtle!
378497 tn?1232143585 Hi, all. I've appeared to develop occipital neuralgia, a shooting, stabbing pain that comes on suddenly and bores from the nape of my neck on the right, through my head, and then end behind and over my right eye. It comes on suddenly, does the thing where it bores through my head, and then resolves. The pain takes my breath away when it happens, and I pretty much have to stop what I'm doing--talking, eating, working...
Avatar f tn i believe that i have trigeminal neuralgia but i do not know what tests are done to confrim this . can you tell me what tests have to be done so i can ask my physician to ruin these tests or demand they run them ? i have been so sick for so long . i literally have been to 25 -30 doctors to find out what is wrong with me . and every test comes back negative except that a test came back positve for fungal aspergillosis .but they do not say anything about treating it .
Avatar f tn Which medication are you on? All of the anticonvulsants can cause side effects, but some people report they get used to the drugs after a few weeks. Be aware that the drugs used to treat TN can cause depression -- as if dealing with the diagnosis isn't depressing enough! They can also make you drowsy. My doctor suggested I take a NoDoz with the daytime doses. But talk to your doctor, because caffeine can be a trigger for some people. People describe a "brain fog" feeling.
Avatar f tn I've had a huge worsening of the trigeminal neuralgia and occipital neuralgia (zaps and pain in the back of my head and scalp). At times it's just been a continuous series of zaps, they don't last too long, but there will be one after another for 10-15 minutes (or maybe it just seems that long). Then there's the pain in my teeth and jaw, behind my eye, and *ohhh* did I mention the back of my head??? Each "zap" feels like I fell and cracked my head on the cement!
Avatar n tn - offered clinical diagnosis of glossopharyngeal neuralgia; currently using medication - have tried tegretol, trileptal, amitryptiline without much success neurosurgeon: suggests vascular decompression of 8-9 (glossopharyngeal) nerve bundle.
405614 tn?1329144114 Hi Kathy, I am on for Trileptal for Trigeminal Neuralgia. The neuro also gave me a script for Tegretol, but felt the Trileptal does the same thing with less side effects. I know Tegretol is usually the 1st choice for TN. It does help me, sometimes not fully, but definitely lessens the pain. I don't know much about the asymmetry of the face. As far as I know it wouldn't have anything to do with TN, but again, I don't know much about it. Good luck and I do hope your pain lessons.
Avatar m tn I suffer from constant pain - pain specialists here have tried injections - burning the nerve, botox and every possible drug - Lyrica, indomethacin, neurontin, dilantin, elavil - opiates make it worse (trileptal was the only one that helped but lowered my sodium to 118 within 48 hours at just 300 mgs a day) 3 neurologists have suggested just living life out on klonopin but i refuse (high gaba covers the pain - ironic - depakote and tomomax make it worse.
Avatar m tn I have had TN (Trigeminal Neuralgia) now for about 17 years. Sharp stabbing pain at times right side of face, usually centered around upper right teeth/top of lip/bottom of nose area. Have had two Gamma Knife procedures done 10/05 and then 10/08 after pain had returned early '08. Pain has returned this spring and continues. Recent MRI shows no changes from before.
Avatar f tn My doctor confirmed yesterday, 8/27/2012 that I do have trigeminal neuralgia on the left side of my face. She prescribed Tegretol 200mg to start. I was supposed to start last night however I am a little scared of what kind of side effects I will experience from this medication. I left a message for my doctor to call me back as I would like to see if I could cut the pill in half to take only 100mg to start.
Avatar f tn I started taking Tegretol for Trigeminal Neuralgia, and now my neurologist has me taking it at a low dose three times a day for the nerve pain in my leg (from my waist to my foot). The generic name for it is Carbamazepine. My PCP thinks of it as a fairly benign medication with relatively few side effects, though you do need to have blood work done, since it's possible it can lower your white count. I've taken it for quite a while, and my blood work is always fine, normal.
