Trileptal mood

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal mood

trileptal

Avatar n tn Trileptal is an anti-convulant that is prescribed as a mood stabilizer but it can be less than effective (although each person responds differently to each medication). Abilify is specifically FDA approved for both mood disorders and psychotic disorders. If a person has a mood disorder that would have any type of psychosis as part of it they would most likely need an antipsychotic.
1100992 tn?1262357216 I needed the extra help of seroquel with that one. I would say that it has been a good mood stabiliser, but with time (years) the effectiveness has decreased for me. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar f tn ve been taking Trileptal 300mg and Lexapro 10mg for over six years now and I did well for a while but about seven months ago started loosing my grip on the situation again. Please reply!
397118 tn?1219762250 HI EVERYONE I WAS WONDERING IF ANY BODY CAN HELP ME WITH QUESTIONS ON TRILEPTAL, I BEEN REALLY TIRED AND I WANTED TO KNOW IF YOU GUYS KNOW IF HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH TRILEPTAL?
Avatar m tn Which mood stabilizers don't require monthly blood testing? Which of these is best to use?
1212999 tn?1272305203 I've been taking these two for 2 months. 1800 mg trileptal 10 mg abilify. i'm doing a lot better (rages getting under control, manic moods lowered) but i'm still so depressed. my irritability is still off the charts. do you think adding another med will be the most likely next step or will my doc just keep raising my dosages?
Avatar n tn Trileptal is gradually replacing Tegretol which is less in use now as Trileptal is much safer but has the same effect on mood stabilization. You should ask your psychiatrist about that. If you have any more questions about benefits issues ask me as I volunteer and do advocacy in that area. I'm sure there's a way you can find coverage. And if you are unable to work because of your disability apply for SSI/SSDI now not later so you can be eligible.
1134609 tn?1269272200 Lamictal and Neurontin actually are mood stabilizers. Klonopin is an anti-anxiety medication used as a mood stabilizer. Clinically in general the most effective mood stabilizer is lithium but each person reacts differently to each medication. Seroquel causing mania is rare. My experience with mood stabilizers was different from yours because I responded very well to Lamictal and Seroquel (which is an antipsychotic used as a mood stabilizer).
Avatar f tn s common or uncommon but its not rare. Trileptal is similar clinically but better in one way in that the blood test is not required. I found that lithium worked well but had some trouble tolerating it for other reasons that were physical but did very well on Lamictal especially on rapid cycling. Each person reacts diffferently though. Speak to your psychiatrist about what is going on and if other options might be considered.
Avatar n tn Abilify is the least sedating out of all the antipsychotics currently available. You could ask your psychiatrist about that. However, its less of a mood stabilizer so you might need to take one in addition and generally Lamictal is the least sedating out of the mood stabilizers in conventional use. You could speak to your psychiatrist about that as well.
Avatar n tn ve stopped taking trileptal (for mood stablizer) and experiencing ear ringing and tremors. Can one ever find something that works????
925572 tn?1246540031 my pdoc raised my lamictal to 200 mg and gave anther mood stabilizer.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm new to the sight but have been doing research on Trileptal and MS. I currently take Trileptal for Partial Seizures (my seizures are well controlled with it) but whenever I miss 2 doses in a row (which I obviously try not to), I experience numbness and tingling in my face and head. I know these are symptoms of MS and I know Trileptal can be used for MS patients to help with nerve issues. I guess my question is should I see my neurologist?
Avatar f tn For the last 6 years I've been seeing my psychiatrist every 4 weeks. For the last 2 years she's been pushing Tegretol on me. That's in addition to Abilify, Buspar, Lexapro, and Tofranil. The last time I was hospitalized for psychiatric reasons the psychiatrist there in the hospital put me on 600mg of Tegretol nightly. I was a zombie for the 6 months that I gave it a full shot.
1108262 tn?1273179266 Trileptal is Oxcarbezepine a good mood stabilizer.I am on Carbamazepine which is also very similar and effective for bipolar disorder.if your Pdoc has started it,then it is a good descision as on Trileptal you need not undergo regular blood tests initially or later to check your white cell count. You will have to take this for a long time if you respond well to this medication which is generally well tolerated.
5153554 tn?1365430705 The day before yesterday he told me he was only taking one Trileptal a day because it made him too sleepy. When he brandished the bottle of Trileptal in my face as evidence he was taking them it seemed suspiciously full. Meanwhile he's been holed up in his room playing video games non-stop all hours of the night, sleeping all day. Leaves only to go to his PT job. His room is like a bat cave. Dark & gloomy.
Avatar n tn Concerta and Trileptal are for ADHD and Mood Stabilizers usually for Anxiety yes. The Prevacid is a stomach acid reducer. Geodan is a bipolar medication. Depending on how long he has been on them, he may have an allergic reaction. Id research.

Avatar f tn He was prescribed Dylantin which was switched to Keppra. His neurologist recently added Trileptal to balance his levels because he was having seizures so often. His therapist also prescribed him Celexal and Elavil for depression medication due to bipolar disorder. Now it seems that the 2 anti-depressants have a side effect of seizures, which causes him to seize more than usual. Should the 4 meds be mixed, Keppra, Celexa, Elavil and Trileptal?
585414 tn?1288941302 Its important that when people run out of standard mood stabilizers that some of the remaining choices do have potential side effects of concern, especially personality alterations. That's why some of them aren't often used. I've been through every mood stabilizer. Could detail but it would go on for pages. But after the common ones proved intolerable Keppra caused suicidal ideations. Trileptal caused an agitated mixed state.
207227 tn?1271416978 I have to get after her to bathe. We went to a child psychiatrist who diagnosed her with nonspecific mood disorder and prescribed Trileptal. I was concerned about giving her the meds and decided to go the route of counseling. At this point, I am thinking of trying the meds. I am concerned about side effects and how children do on this medication. Does anyone have experience with this drug in children? I am also wondering if she really needs it.
Avatar n tn Tegretol is one of a variety of medications in potential use when lithium (which is the only medication specifically developed as a mood stabilizer) no longer is effective. This is some information on mood stabilizers in general including Tegretol: http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/meds/moodstabilizers.htm For some people it has an easier to tolerate side effect profile than lithium.
Avatar f tn t listed. Meds like Abilify, Trileptal, Tegretol, Seroquel, Resperidol......I think those are some that should be added! Thanks!
1967424 tn?1325633780 This sounds like a bad plan. If you truly cannot stand tegretol, but you've been having mood episodes (especially manic ones), you need to start a different mood stabilizer, preferably before or while stopping the tegretol. And are you having major side effects, or are you just upset that you're still getting depressed? Major and/or intolerable side effects are the only good reason to quit fast. If it's not working well enough, a dose increase or adding something else could work.
