Trileptal in bipolar

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal in bipolar

trileptal

Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar n tn t know what they specifically treat in bipolar disorder, but if it works similar to antipsychotics in the disorder, it would probably be better to switch to an anticonvulsant rather than continue taking an antipsychotic, provided it works for you. Prolonged usage of antipsychotics can have permanent side effects, but not always.
1108262 tn?1273179266 DOES ANY ONE TAKE TRILEPTAL FOR BIPOLAR ??? IF SO HOW MUCH AND FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING IT??
Avatar n tn hey my diagnoses is bipolar depression i take 150 zoloft,50naltrexone,60mg inderol,trileptal 900,stelazine 6mg,cogentin 0.
Avatar m tn A friend of mine gets his Depakote from there it is so much cheaper, Trileptal I think in generic was $43 for 100 (150mg) generics. Check it out, they will tell you who makes it and what country, most are from Canada. PS.I know this stream is not really for this forum, but knowing where to get safe and cheap medicine is relevant for us all.
Avatar f tn Is anyone on here taking Trileptal for bipolar? Any comments or results?
Avatar f tn What are some of the medications usually prescribed for bipolar disorder?? I've been taking Trileptal 300mg and Lexapro 10mg for over six years now and I did well for a while but about seven months ago started loosing my grip on the situation again. Please reply!
5153554 tn?1365430705 The day before yesterday he told me he was only taking one Trileptal a day because it made him too sleepy. When he brandished the bottle of Trileptal in my face as evidence he was taking them it seemed suspiciously full. Meanwhile he's been holed up in his room playing video games non-stop all hours of the night, sleeping all day. Leaves only to go to his PT job. His room is like a bat cave. Dark & gloomy.
Avatar f tn Holiday blues can affect anyone, especially people with things like bipolar disorder. Depressive episodes I don't think are required for bipolar disorder 1 to be diagnosed and only mania is required but they frequently occur. With psychotic features just means you experience psychotic symptoms when manic and/or depressed but particularly while manic.
Avatar n tn Trileptal is gradually replacing Tegretol which is less in use now as Trileptal is much safer but has the same effect on mood stabilization. You should ask your psychiatrist about that. If you have any more questions about benefits issues ask me as I volunteer and do advocacy in that area. I'm sure there's a way you can find coverage. And if you are unable to work because of your disability apply for SSI/SSDI now not later so you can be eligible.
Avatar m tn i have been bipolar for 20 years. i was taken off lithium 2 yrs ago because it was affecting my lithium--then i had a psychotic break and was hospitalized for over 8 wks. since then no meds have worked well for me and i was started on ect which has continued at intervals, now once every 2 wks. i feel the ect is helping me but is destroying my memory, both short and long term. now the doc wants to put me back on low dose lithium along with a med to protect my kidneys and monitor them closely.
Avatar n tn The doctor ordered Valium 2 mg because he thought it was seizure related, but the Valium does not help. He was in the ER for 5 hours during the weekend. Believe it or not Benadryl helped him. This might occur 2-3 times per day while in school. He cannot swallow. He does not drool and not having body movements or anything else that resembles a seizure. No pain involved and no spasm of the tongue. Student takes Geodan, Trileptal, Resperdal, Prevacid, and Concerta. He is 19 years old.
Avatar f tn unfortunately, a lot of these meds do cause problems with weight gain. However, if you can possibly try to set yourself up on a plan (sometimes it takes forcing yourself at that beginning), to get out and walk everyday, it will help you a lot. It helps with the weight and with the mood. My son has this problem. He has bipolar schizoaffective disorder. He is on Clozaril, Effexor and Trileptal.
Avatar n tn However, its less of a mood stabilizer so you might need to take one in addition and generally Lamictal is the least sedating out of the mood stabilizers in conventional use. You could speak to your psychiatrist about that as well.
Avatar f tn Neurontin, Topomax, Keppra, Trileptal, Lovaza (anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar it works like fish oil but is an FDA approved medication) and Clonidine (which I take having exhausted all other options). Those are only the ones I've tried and am familiar with. I wouldn't reccomend one over the other but speak to your psychiatrist about any of these options (or others listed on that site which is clinically accurate).
Avatar f tn He was prescribed Dylantin which was switched to Keppra. His neurologist recently added Trileptal to balance his levels because he was having seizures so often. His therapist also prescribed him Celexal and Elavil for depression medication due to bipolar disorder. Now it seems that the 2 anti-depressants have a side effect of seizures, which causes him to seize more than usual. Should the 4 meds be mixed, Keppra, Celexa, Elavil and Trileptal?
Avatar f tn Its possible but it could also be caused by stopping the medication to quickly - called withdraws. i would suggest to him about seeing his doctor do what ever you can to get him there and go with him and suggest your concerns.
Avatar m tn It causes mania and psychosis in bipolar people. It put me into mania both times I used it for my foot pain. I have plantar faciitis and it was used to bring down my inflamation. Anyhow, any steroid causes mania in bipolar people. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn What you should do is review Scientific American, which suggests that bi-polar disorder is the result of a specific infectious agent, and is in actuality an auto-immune disorder, rather than something caused by poor toilet training. And the good news is they have identified an organism. And there are clinical trials overseas on a drug that will counteract the affects.
1967424 tn?1325633780 Hmm. Are you diagnosed as bipolar I or II? Bipolar I is probably a good enough reason to be medicated in some way, since mania can be so destructive, but bipolar II with few episodes might be controllable with therapy. Depression can be quite destructive too, so the question is really how much does whatever mood disorder you have **** with your daily life, your happiness, and your ability to function?
Avatar n tn As you know I was on Trileptal but I have been noticing blood in my stool lately. It could be the Trileptal causing it. I talked to my doctor about this and he has put me now on Topamax. I take half of the 25 mg tablet. I am going insane. Which med do I take?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed as having bipolar disorder about 6 or 7 years ago. I now take Trileptal to treat it, and it has definitely improved my life. It was never something anyone, but my family or close friends were even able to detect. I have never been hospitalized as a result of the bipolar nor has it ever affected my physical health in any way. However, I am unable to acquire any health insurance because of the diagnosis.
Avatar f tn As for mood stabilizers you can go to the links page but assuming you tried Lithium and Depakoate (which are the most used mood stabilizers) there is Trileptal, Topomax, Keppra and Neurontin. Those are more in use. Lovaza is an anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar and it works in the same manner as fish oil. That is FDA approved and has shown promising results.
Avatar f tn my daughter is 15 yrs old and was diagnosed with bipolar about a year ago. In the last 7 months she has had 7 seizures. Is anyone else with bipolar having seizures?
5101703 tn?1363720186 My Aunt filled me in. Both sides of my family have bipolar. My father died of an OD at 31 - self medicating. Uncles, first cousins, grandparents... Deadly disease if untreated. Now I'm really eager to learn all I can & build up a network of support. Since it's a new revaluation I felt very alone, my son doesn't even want to discuss it. hates labels. But I've made a friend or two on here. I worry about venting too much. Don't want to sound like a chronic whiner.
967145 tn?1247497890 hi i am a 26 year old . and i am bipolar! i am taking this medication carbamazepin. is this a mood stablelizer? i have taken it before and this time i feel really weird! like the other night me and my husband was sleeping, and i heard myself talking to my husband but i knew that i was asleep! and my heart started racing really fast? is this suppose to happen? or do i need diferent meds?
574118 tn?1305135284 Its not a form of epilepsy. But since bipolar involves overactivity in the limbic system (the part of the brain that controls emotion) certain anti-convulsants (though not all) will lower the abnormal level of electrical activity there just like they lower the general level of electrical activity in seizures.
