Trileptal for mania

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal for mania

trileptal

Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
1134609 tn?1269272200 We would really like to get down to 2 medications; Lamictal for BP depression and the other for the mania side of things. And then possibly a benzo as a PRN. But, I have Ativan and Xanax XR in the cupboard and I have taken one of the Xanax and two Ativan over the space of 6 months; all while I was still taking the Celexa.
Avatar n tn hey my diagnoses is bipolar depression i take 150 zoloft,50naltrexone,60mg inderol,trileptal 900,stelazine 6mg,cogentin 0.
Avatar f tn ve been taking Trileptal 300mg and Lexapro 10mg for over six years now and I did well for a while but about seven months ago started loosing my grip on the situation again. Please reply!
1100992 tn?1262357216 if you compare tegretol with depakote or lithium the 3 most famous classical old drugs for BP and mainly for mania then tegretol is the least harmful and this i read everywhere. So if you consider an MS then tegretol is your best bet. Sure you will need from time to time to do some blood tests (not with trileptal) but at least it won't make you put excessive weight or hair loss like depakote or the other known side effects like lithium BTW egyptian doctors write it all the time.
Avatar f tn Trileptal and Seroquel but they are not working. I am taking myself of the trileptal now. i am off the seroquel completely now. Like you said I have grown immune to them. I have an appt to see my psych doc soon. I had printed out a list of meds so hopefully we are able to get the right ones.
Avatar f tn I was on a larger dose of Seroquel than that (75-100mg), and never had any problems getting up in the night if the phone rang or my dog nudged me in the face with his nose. But I guess I took Trileptal a long time ago and it didn't do anything for my manic states, and the Seroquel didn't always help me sleep anyway, so it is possible that they affect you differently. I would suggest at least trying to take it.
1673169 tn?1316541930 Hi, I would suggest asking your doctor for medication that would have an immediate effect on your mania, for example anti psychotics, to bring you down a bit and some Benzodiazepine treatment to slow you down and help with sleep..I think its unfair for them to start you on a new mood stabiliser and just leave you to it, when you are manic..you need some extra support until the medication takes effect, try to remember this is just short term though. Do you have anyone helping you through this?
Avatar f tn lithium, depakine, tegretol are good especially for mania but now they have lamictal, topamax, etc... Also have you tried an AP (abilify) some people tolerate it very well. you said: "Apparently I have become much more emotionally sensitive, and I know, much more short tempered" I assume for this you use tranquilizers. In fact i found them the best in action except for addiction only one must be cautious. Sure there must be some other ways for people to calm them down.
585414 tn?1288941302 Could detail but it would go on for pages. But after the common ones proved intolerable Keppra caused suicidal ideations. Trileptal caused an agitated mixed state. Now at this point in time having run out of options I could see a mood disorders specialist (which was suggsted in the past) but I've been through their lists of what they've used and have been on what's available.
Avatar f tn I have more depression than mania. I was on Depakote 1000 mg a day . I felt pretty good but gained so much weight , which caused me to have prediabetes .I was changed to Lamictal which caused huge allergic reactions ! I just started Trileptal 300 mg twice a day. It's causing anxiety , but I also take Ativan . I seem to have more energy . Has anyone gained weight on this , and how does it work on the depression side of Bipolar 2 ?
5032487 tn?1365824021 I know lamictal has very low side effects for me, but I need something in addition for mania. I use Abilify which is supposed to be weight neutral, but I gained 35 lbs when I first took it. Now I have a solution to prevent weight gain no matter what I am on. I am on a grain- free diet and I rarely get hunger pangs. If I do, it is because I am truly hungry and need to eat. I have to try to eat enough calories in a day. Give it a try.
1967424 tn?1325633780 Hmm. Are you diagnosed as bipolar I or II? Bipolar I is probably a good enough reason to be medicated in some way, since mania can be so destructive, but bipolar II with few episodes might be controllable with therapy. Depression can be quite destructive too, so the question is really how much does whatever mood disorder you have **** with your daily life, your happiness, and your ability to function?
1108262 tn?1273179266 DOES ANY ONE TAKE TRILEPTAL FOR BIPOLAR ??? IF SO HOW MUCH AND FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING IT??
574118 tn?1305135284 As I stated it worked fine for me on both mania and depression. I was stable at 325 mg. for close to ten years. It did at the end worsen mania but that's an extremely high dose. But in the meantime it was working well the whole time on both manic and depression. As for mood stabilizers it is typical to change after a decade for some people at least. It does happen every now and then.
Avatar m tn I was on lamictal and trileptal but had to switch to lithium as my insurance allowance for medication has run out and lamictal and trileptal costs about $500.00 per month. Befor the month is out I'll have to go to lithium and depakote until I can figure something else out.
Avatar f tn I was on oxcarbazine for eight years. It's a really good drug. It's stabilizes mania. I just went off it in favor of topomax but I would recommend it-I had no side effects.
406957 tn?1202996900 They just seem to from what they have observed. Now the latest thing is to give us anti psychotcs for anti mania meds. Now admittidly there are about 1/3 of us that do show some psychotic feature, most of this 1/3? well their pshycosis is delusions of granduer. Less than 2% of all (way over 30 mil recieveing treatment way more not recieving) persons with brain disorders ever become dangerous or violent.
5101703 tn?1363720186 I've suffered from depression and mild mania for most of my life (although I thought the manic part meant you were euphoric, and I don't ever remember being that happy). I had a high stress job, teen with mental issues and a husband that is frequently out to sea for weeks at a time. I went to my MD in November because I wasn't sleeping, confused and angry. He diagnosed me with major depressive disorder - put me on Lexepro & Trazadone for sleep.
Avatar f tn I take 40mg of fluoxetine/Prozac and being an antidepressant I hear it makes mania in bipolar disorder much worse. I am currently being assessed for bipolar disorder but after starting on the antidepressant for a few months now I haven't noticed a significant change in mania symptoms whilst taking it compared to when I took no medication. Is it possible to have bipolar but not having worsened symptoms due to antidepressants?
Avatar f tn So I have been diagnosed by two different psychiatrists the first said bipolar II the second cyclomania. Also been diagnosed with ADHD but cannot take meds for it because of bipolar. Or maybe I am just bipolar and was misdiagnosed...anyways I have irritability, anger, mild depression, hypomania, am very figity, have sleeping problems...
Avatar m tn Thanks for your info on how Trileptal works for Tregeminal Neuralgia. I would be interested to see how it works with other people as well, in place of Carbamazapine and Gabapentin so I have some ammunition when I see my neurologist. I don't think Gabapentin is doing much if anything for me, I am currently taking 2700 mg per day in addition to Carbamazapine.
222267 tn?1253302210 Yes I took Trileptal (the brand name of what you are taking) years ago. It didn't work out for me but not for the reasons you said. Some people have found it tolerable and effective. It is clinically related to Tegretol which requires regular bloodtests to monitor for loss of white blood cells (which does not often occur but still must be tested for). It rarely happens with Trileptal, unlike Tegretol but it can on occasion.
Avatar f tn My dr put me on lamictal for mania. Couldn't use it and now am on Tegretol also. Never heard of the other drug. I didn't get bloated but after a week my system overcame it and the dose had to be increased. I find my thinking is slower and my fingers do what they want on the keyboard if not constantly watched lol. The only side effects so far are headache and restless legs which I think is funny if this is what they use to treat it.
925572 tn?1246540031 am BP II.....was afraid of hypo mania and went to my pdoc 20 days ago.....he raised my lamictal to 200 mg and put me on trileptal 150 mg........after 17 days my mood curve started to go down and i felt depression creeping and tried to fight it back but it defeated me two days now, today am kind of dead,,,,,,,,closing on my self do not leave bed only for bathroom.my social life is vanished,i cannot explain it to people coz they wont understand it and i do not like their sympathy..................
Avatar f tn Is anyone on here taking Trileptal for bipolar? Any comments or results?
Avatar f tn Due to the severe burning sensation I have in my hands from my current MS flare up, my neuro has put me on Trileptal. I have read great things about this med in regards to TN but not much about peripheral nerves. Anyone have any experience with this med for burning sensation NOT on the face? Hope you all are well!!
