Trileptal and tegretol

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal and tegretol

trileptal

Avatar f tn ve read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP. But Tegretol usually has side effects. http://www.bipolarworld.org/bipolarworld/Medications/Mood%20Stabilizers/stabmeds_main.
1100992 tn?1262357216 I found Lamictal the most tolerable out of the 3 and it worked specifically on rapid cycling and mixed states and could not tolerate Tegretol, Trileptal and Depakoate because of personality changes (but that's a potential side effect of all anti-convulsants used as mood stabilizers including the one I take now) but each person responds differently to each medication although generally, side effect profile aside as it is the only medication approved as a mood stabilizer before any other usa
Avatar n tn Hi. I was diagnosed with ATN 14 years ago. The pain has been well-controlled with neurontin until 3 weeks ago. I had an exacerbation of pain, most likely brought on by dental work. The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now.
1374874 tn?1278686480 wondering if anyone who is taking Tegretol can let me know how long before the tegretol kicked in and you felt some relief?? They want me to go off of it already and try something new but I wanted to give it another week. Ive been on it 10 days and they want me to wean off of it on day 14 if still no pain relief...and try a new drug.
Avatar m tn Any diarrhea? How did you feel on Tegretol ? What was trileptal like?
Avatar m tn My wife has been taking Tegretol 200mg X 3 tines a day, this has caused her to be disorientated and nauseous & still in pain, she is trying Trileptal 300mg X 3, whilst cutting out the Tegretol. My question is how much Trileptal can she take ??????
Avatar m tn Being female -- I can't answer your question about ED. I do know that I tried gabapentin -- didn't work, Tegretol (Carbamezepine) didn't work. But Trileptal worked well. It DID cause nausea and drowsiness. The pain doc said to take it a half-hour to an hour before eating and that resolve the nausea. He also advised taking a No-Doz (equal to 1 cup of coffee) along with the daytime doses -- and that took care of most of the drowsiness.
2015036 tn?1332997788 Hi, Tammy, I'm no stranger to TN, and it's rearing it's ugly head again, lately. I take a combination of Gabapentin, and Trileptal (a kin to Tegritol). Trileptal makes me dizzy, but if I ramp up very slowly, it becomes tolerable. So, I start with 300 mg each of G and T at bedtime, for three days. Then, I add the same doses in the morning, so that my morning and evening doses are 12 hours apart. I do this for three days, and then add a noon dose if necessary.
Avatar f tn My daughter was a thin child, who took Tegretol for seizures, and gained a large amount of weight in a short time. We stopped the medication, but the weight did not reduce.
2080404 tn?1643113754 My doctor just took me off Lithium and what I was taking to sleep- Trazadone- and switched me to Tegretol and Ambien. I have Bi polar type II and Borderline Personality Disorder with Ultradian cycles. I just joined this site while doing absent-minded research browsing on the two disorders and decided "why not?". Set up a profile and even trackers which is something else. But I can't help but find purely scientific facts about the medicines, has anyone been on them?
471949 tn?1236904026 My 15 yr old son had a closed head injury and developed epilepsy. We have been thru several meds; tegretol, depakote, carbitrol, and topamax, and finally keppra. He too has nocturnal seizures arising from his frontal lobe. These meds come with terrible side effects, good luck finding the right one for your son. I know that on topamax my son had issues with memory and concentration, he couldn't even spell "if" when he was 12 ! I knew that something was wrong!
925572 tn?1246540031 Trileptal is clinically similar to Tegretol but because of the way it was updated its safer and doesn't require bloodwork. For some people its a good mood stabilizer. It depends. My experience wasn't favorable but I know for some people I know it was and it would work as an adjunct to Lamictal. The side effect profile is reasonably similar to Tegretol and its effectiveness about the same. You could look it up more on the websites we have linked up or the medication website itself.
Avatar f tn but i would like to share this with you lamictal and trileptal do affect birth control pills and vise verse i.e. you can get pregnant using these as they reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills by 40%to 50% ,,,,,,,,,,also (which done me a great harm) the birth control pills reduce the effect of BP meds up to 50% also. i read on some site (but i cannot remember which) that birth control pills can affect most of psychiatric meds.
233622 tn?1279334905 Apparently my last neurologist over-dosed my on both Tegretol and Neurontin and I am currently being weaned off of both and they are trying small doses of Lyrica (which I had horrible side effects with after taking 5- 75mg doses...not a large amount). What I would like to know is that if I am having side effects from the Tegretol, why would they now try this Trilepital? For you it looks like the cat's meow so to speak honey!
Avatar f tn tegretol is supposedly the safest among the 3 classical drugs for BP. the other 2 are lithium and valproex. Tegretal is not used much in the USA because of drug interactions and sometimes replaced by it's weaker cousin trileptal. i tried it myself 2 years ago but couldn't tolerate because of the headaches it caused me. However i assume it's better than the other 2. look nothing of the sort as which is better than such and such it's all related to the person.
Avatar n tn ve recently swithched to generic tegretol and feel a bit funny. my memory and reflexes are much poorer and i feel more fatigued.
Avatar n tn One thing that should be noted is that the medication Trileptal is basically clinically the same as Tegretol but because of some specific variations it has a safer side effect profile and does not require regular blood tests so if your psychiatrist decides to use Tegretol it would be worthwhile to ask about that.
959034 tn?1253671476 I take dilantin and tegretol. Soon zonegran too. Anyone know about that one? I had reactions to trileptal, depakote, and others. I had to stay in the hospital for Lamictal and topamax!!!!!
Avatar f tn t listed. Meds like Abilify, Trileptal, Tegretol, Seroquel, Resperidol......I think those are some that should be added! Thanks!
Avatar m tn Is it logical that I am now feeling over fatigued because of being on a fluid restricted intake because of low sodium readings and trileptal. 127 reading. Senior category age wise.
1134609 tn?1269272200 You might want to ask your psychiatrist about Trileptal which is basically clinically the same as Tegretol but because it has far less of a potential to cause the specific side effect that the Tegretol requires blood monitoring for, generally doesn't require blood tests and also in having less of a potential to cause that side effect is safer in general. You could speak to them about that option.
Avatar f tn I started taking Tegretol for Trigeminal Neuralgia, and now my neurologist has me taking it at a low dose three times a day for the nerve pain in my leg (from my waist to my foot). The generic name for it is Carbamazepine. My PCP thinks of it as a fairly benign medication with relatively few side effects, though you do need to have blood work done, since it's possible it can lower your white count. I've taken it for quite a while, and my blood work is always fine, normal.
Avatar f tn In addition, some doctors use Tegretol to treat alcohol withdrawal, cocaine addiction, and emotional disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder and abnormally aggressive behavior. The drug is also used to treat migraine headache and "restless legs." All of the symptoms you describe are consistent with the use of Tegretol especially in the early stages. As your body becomes acustomed to it, these side effects should dissipate.
967145 tn?1247497890 like the other night me and my husband was sleeping, and i heard myself talking to my husband but i knew that i was asleep! and my heart started racing really fast? is this suppose to happen? or do i need diferent meds?
1967424 tn?1325633780 ve been having mood episodes (especially manic ones), you need to start a different mood stabilizer, preferably before or while stopping the tegretol. And are you having major side effects, or are you just upset that you're still getting depressed? Major and/or intolerable side effects are the only good reason to quit fast. If it's not working well enough, a dose increase or adding something else could work.
