trileptal and seizures

I currently take Trileptal for Partial Seizures (my seizures are well controlled with it) but whenever I miss 2 doses in a row (which I obviously try not to), I experience numbness and tingling in my face and head. I know these are symptoms of MS and I know Trileptal can be used for MS patients to help with nerve issues. I guess my question is should I see my neurologist? Is it possible that this face numbness/tingling sensations are symptoms of MS? FYI I am a 33 yr old female.

My son takes Trileptal for his Epilepsy...(he is 16)...it's affecting his memory more and more; does anyone else here take this med and have similar problems? His dosage is 900mg/twice a day. Any lower dose and his seizures return. This has been the only med that has been able to control his seizures. He has frontal lobe epilepsy with seizures that only occured in his sleep (with a couple of rare exceptions). Thanks for your help.

Ok so, I have been taking the's meds for like 2 months now. I am taking 150 mg of Zoloft and 1800 mg of Trileptal daily. I have been very emotional, like it's that time of the month but it's not, for the last week and for like 2 days now, just randomly I smell weird as ****... Like I was warming up some pizza rolls and it smelled like sweaty day old gym clothes and then I heated up something else and it smelled like day old pissy clothes... Is this normal??

I finally found a med that works miracles....Trileptal. His seizures stopped completely!!! And zero side effects!!! Now, this drug is expensive as hell, but my insurance pays for it...but even if they didn't it would be worth it. Best of luck!!!

Hi Sherry...I don't believe that we have spoken before but I have been diagnosed with MS and I presented with grand mal seizures! My name is Rena and I have been a member on the Forum since about October of last year. I was first diagnosed with MS in 1993. I presented though with grand mal seizures that I had only when I was in bed at night. I don't know that I would have been aware of them if my hubby hadn't been there. I would only wake up in the a.m.

He was prescribed Dylantin which was switched to Keppra. His neurologist recently added Trileptal to balance his levels because he was having seizures so often. His therapist also prescribed him Celexal and Elavil for depression medication due to bipolar disorder. Now it seems that the 2 anti-depressants have a side effect of seizures, which causes him to seize more than usual. Should the 4 meds be mixed, Keppra, Celexa, Elavil and Trileptal?

Hi, my son is 4 and just went on trileptal a few months ago. He has focal seizures/temporal lobe (partial and partial complex) not sure if this is the same as your sons-it seems these seizures have many names. He has had them since 2 1/2.. My son does have a strong tempermant and is very particular about things-I have seen a bit of increase since the meds started but not much.

My daughter was a thin child, who took Tegretol for seizures, and gained a large amount of weight in a short time. We stopped the medication, but the weight did not reduce.

I am 47 and have had seizures since the onset of my menstrual cycle when I was 13. As the years have gone by new medications came about. At first I was on phenobarbital and tegretol. Those only lightened the seizures. Later I was put on Dilantin. A little more helpful but not controlling. When I was about 28, a doctor put me on Depakene (Depakote). It suppressed my seizures well. I always felt worse during my periods or when i was stressed or lack of sleep.

She has now, at age 21 yrs complex partial seizures and when she is in them she asks the questions over and over again within seconds, "What time is is? What day is it? Do I have anything to do today? What am I doing tomorrow?" This goes on for 2 mins and last night it was about 12 minutes...the longest ever. She has had one EEG and CT scan.

The EEG report suggested to consider complex partial seizures. I was placed on Topamax to which I had a bad reaction and was taken off after two weeks. I am now on Trileptal for now to see how my body tolerates that. WHatI need to know is if there are any other tests that can be run to confirm if in fact those spikes or discharges are complex partial seizures. The only physical manifestion I presented with was a tremor in my right arm.

I have tonic-clonic seizures, and absence seizures generally. I have headaches that cause blurry vision. I see these color blobs that move in my vision that shouldn’t be there, they don’t show any connection to stimuli so I don’t have synesthesia. I’m on levetiracetam aka keppra and clobazam aka onfi.

That's very interesting! I havent heard of seizure meds being used for MS. Although I am on Keppra now for a week due to recent seizures. I have been wondering all along if I have MS although testing thus far has not proven so. Erica mentioned side effects, I have to agree: i couldn't take trileptal and now seem to be having some problems with Keppra and am on a very very low dose 125mg twice daily, supposed to increase tomorrow but think I will wait another week before I do.

said they were complex partial seizures and she went on dilantin and depakote then keppra and ended with trileptal and now on keppra and trileptal...seizures still are not controlled and she goes through cyles of increased seizures and memory loss and headaches and seizures seem to be getting more frequent and the keppra is terrible...and now they want to try lamitra or zonegran...every mediceine is so disruptive to her and do not control the seizures..

currently 6ml in the a.m. and 8ml in the p.m. (the concentration is 300mg/5ml.) About 2 weeks ago, his dose of Trileptal was increased from 6ml twice a day to the present dosage (because he was still having some mild break-through seizures). Around the same time, his teacher has mentioned that he is not "listening" well to her directions, and sometimes she has to re-explain her directions to him.

I have epilepsy and headaches as well. I don't know if they are related. I don't know why I have seizures. I am on trileptal and take maxalt for my headaches. Docs don't know what else to do for me. My seizures are under control pretty much. Only have them in my sleep and only when I miss my medication or when I need to up it.

Could it be solved another way cause she is still experiencing the seizures ..and with all those meds going into her pore little body?? Could someone please help me if you have experienced anything like this or know of posibble other tests that I should be asking for?? My daughter and I are forever in your debt...

I have lived withe epilepsy all my life and have partial complex and simple seizures due to tuberous sclerosis on the brain. Is it logical that I am now feeling over fatigued because of being on a fluid restricted intake because of low sodium readings and trileptal. 127 reading. Senior category age wise.

Hi ggreg, Thanks for the reply. My Dr. Took me off all my Meds and so the only Meds i am currently on is the Ativan 1mg and there tapering me off of that also... ever since i was placed in the hospital the day i had (2) Grand Mal Seizures the Dr. put me back on Ativan and i had no Seizures again since. I wish I could get an answer to that as well. I was dx with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) a few months ago and taking Trileptal (450 mg per day), it seems to be working pretty well for me (I was having simple partial seizures and still have some aura on occasion, I will be talking to my neurologist about this on the next appointment). My neurologist was not able to tell me what caused it, I don't think I ever had a head injury.

will chantix efect the use of all my meds for seizures/hiv.
