Trileptal and mania

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal and mania

trileptal

Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
1134609 tn?1269272200 We would really like to get down to 2 medications; Lamictal for BP depression and the other for the mania side of things. And then possibly a benzo as a PRN. But, I have Ativan and Xanax XR in the cupboard and I have taken one of the Xanax and two Ativan over the space of 6 months; all while I was still taking the Celexa.
Avatar n tn hey my diagnoses is bipolar depression i take 150 zoloft,50naltrexone,60mg inderol,trileptal 900,stelazine 6mg,cogentin 0.
Avatar f tn ve been taking Trileptal 300mg and Lexapro 10mg for over six years now and I did well for a while but about seven months ago started loosing my grip on the situation again. Please reply!
1100992 tn?1262357216 I found Lamictal the most tolerable out of the 3 and it worked specifically on rapid cycling and mixed states and could not tolerate Tegretol, Trileptal and Depakoate because of personality changes (but that's a potential side effect of all anti-convulsants used as mood stabilizers including the one I take now) but each person responds differently to each medication although generally, side effect profile aside as it is the only medication approved as a mood stabilizer before any other usa
Avatar f tn Trileptal and Seroquel but they are not working. I am taking myself of the trileptal now. i am off the seroquel completely now. Like you said I have grown immune to them. I have an appt to see my psych doc soon. I had printed out a list of meds so hopefully we are able to get the right ones.
Avatar f tn This is what I could find as per the interaction between Suboxone and Trileptal but all this should be discussed with your psychiatrist who could (and should be doing) a search on the physician's only database all doctors have access to.
Avatar f tn I was on a larger dose of Seroquel than that (75-100mg), and never had any problems getting up in the night if the phone rang or my dog nudged me in the face with his nose. But I guess I took Trileptal a long time ago and it didn't do anything for my manic states, and the Seroquel didn't always help me sleep anyway, so it is possible that they affect you differently. I would suggest at least trying to take it.
Avatar m tn Yes right now I am taking lithium and trileptal. I was on lamictal and trileptal but had to switch to lithium as my insurance allowance for medication has run out and lamictal and trileptal costs about $500.00 per month. Befor the month is out I'll have to go to lithium and depakote until I can figure something else out.
1673169 tn?1316541930 I am manic and am starting trileptal tomorrow. I know it will take weeks to work. What do i for with my manic self in the mean time? Should i go to a crisis center or just ride it out?
Avatar f tn If you have taken tegretol I would be interested in hearing from you about your experiences with this medication. Apparently I have become much more emotionally sensitive, and I know, much more short tempered. Has this happened to you and what did you do about it? I don't know whether it's me changing and not putting up with as much as I used and those around me can't handle it or if it's the meds. Maybe it's both - I really don't know.
585414 tn?1288941302 Its important that when people run out of standard mood stabilizers that some of the remaining choices do have potential side effects of concern, especially personality alterations. That's why some of them aren't often used. I've been through every mood stabilizer. Could detail but it would go on for pages. But after the common ones proved intolerable Keppra caused suicidal ideations. Trileptal caused an agitated mixed state.
Avatar n tn I have not actually been given more than a hazy diagnosis. No offense intended to the professionals, but, every psychiatrist seems to hedge when I ask what my diagnosis is, or why the particular med is being prescribed and what it will do.
Avatar f tn So I have been diagnosed by two different psychiatrists the first said bipolar II the second cyclomania. Also been diagnosed with ADHD but cannot take meds for it because of bipolar. Or maybe I am just bipolar and was misdiagnosed...anyways I have irritability, anger, mild depression, hypomania, am very figity, have sleeping problems...
5032487 tn?1365824021 Someone mentioned trileptal above and I have taken that before too. I just wanted to compare it to topomax- they are both anti-convulsants/ anti seizure medication. I do not know if they are both used in treating bi-polar, topomax is for sure. The trileptal was given to me for panic attacks- or my moods I don't remember. I know it worked well. Anyway, if you like the weight your at try one of the above mentioned options.
1967424 tn?1325633780 This sounds like a bad plan. If you truly cannot stand tegretol, but you've been having mood episodes (especially manic ones), you need to start a different mood stabilizer, preferably before or while stopping the tegretol. And are you having major side effects, or are you just upset that you're still getting depressed? Major and/or intolerable side effects are the only good reason to quit fast. If it's not working well enough, a dose increase or adding something else could work.
574118 tn?1305135284 As I stated it worked fine for me on both mania and depression. I was stable at 325 mg. for close to ten years. It did at the end worsen mania but that's an extremely high dose. But in the meantime it was working well the whole time on both manic and depression. As for mood stabilizers it is typical to change after a decade for some people at least. It does happen every now and then.
406957 tn?1202996900 I dont know what I would have done if the doc hadnt put me on zyprexa and celexa. Its very important for bi polars to be on and Ad and a mood stabilizer. go tell your doc what you are experiencing and if you need to tallk just message me when I was going through my stuff I would tell my self just one more hour, just one more day .I can do this we are here for you.Hang tough.
5101703 tn?1363720186 I am a type 1 and although I still cycle pretty fast between mania and depression it is not near as bad as it was before the meds.
Avatar f tn I am a type one and EVERYTHING that you just said pretty much describes my cycles and severity of my symptoms. Also I was on trileptal and it was the first med that they put me on after diagnosing me with bipolar at the height of a major manic attack. It worked great for a couple of days but then I started having some major side effects and they switched me to another medicine.
2047903 tn?1330187549 I was lucky and after 3 procedures have been pain free and medication free for almost 4 years. So I was able to wean off the Trileptal under doctors orders.
222267 tn?1253302210 I would see the doctor if I were you. That sounds more serious even if its not from the Trileptal. I don't remember having any side effects of that severity on Trileptal. Just some cognitive confusion and sedation. Same as many other medications I've been on. Are you still taking Lithium? And if not how long were you off the Lithium?
Avatar f tn Mood stabilizers vary in effectiveness on both mania and depression. Lamictal from what I believe is better on depression than mania. Depakoate is better on depression. Lamictal in high doses can enduce mania as it did in me so it had to be discontinued by my psychiatrist. However, that was over time. Generally I found it safe and effective. Tegretol is hardly used in the United States anymore due to drug interactions.
