trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar n tn Just the other day I saw a neurologist and got Tegretol which is supposed to help the pain cuased by Trigeminal neuralgia which I have same symptoms for. BUT taking for 2 days 100mg per day didn't do anything. and yesterday I even felt some mild but still dull toothache one the other side of my face. My symptoms are generally get worst as the day goes by. and I have this constant tender point on end of my jaw line since the very beginning of the extraction.
Avatar f tn Without the medication I could not live with this pain, it does help but the pain never goes away, and I dread it when I know that I am going to have an attack, nobody seems to know exactly what is what is causing this, I have looked up Trigeminal Neuralgia and I have these symptoms along with other symptoms, can you please tell me if you think that I may have this or a combination of Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemicrania Continua. I live in the UK and would really appreciate your advice.
Avatar f tn Tegretol is the medication of choice for trigeminal neuralgia. Have you gone to the dentist to make sure you don't have a dental issue that should be fixed? Dental issues can inflame the nerves under the teeth and the pain can migrate into ear and sometimes face (generally not lightning bursts like TN) so it's a good idea to make sure you don't have a tooth issue on top of the TN.
Avatar f tn Did you ever get a reply? Sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia Type 1 or Atypical. There is help for this! Same needs used for seizures help condition and pain attacks. Tegretol is one but many more. Thank you Neurologist treats TN. Studies happening now.
Avatar f tn Could compression or stretching of the trigeminal nerve during surgery cause damage which is causing this neuralgia and head ache. I have no infection and normal blood counts. After trying two steriod dose packs and a Zpack suggested by my neurosurgeon, I went to a general practioner to make sure I had no infection or other cause. Except having high blood pressure, which I usually have low blood pressure, everything was within normal limits. I feel the BP is due to pain.
Avatar f tn Anyhow, the pain just suddenly went away after like a week and a half, and is fine. I have read that trigeminal neuralgia can feel like a toothache, does that sound like that could have been the case here? I only connect it because it was the same time and the legs/exhaustion thing. I'm new to this, I was diagnosed in April with RRMS and am taking Copaxone, Do you think this was a relapse or just overdoing it?
429700 tn?1308007823 Sounds like Trigeminal neuralgia (TN). The Trigeminal nerve has 3 main branches. There are motor component along with the sensory ones. It can cause motor tic and was known as tic douloureux at one time.
Avatar n tn Then large lumps under arm began, antibiotics did not work and had allergic reaction. Regular doc referred me to a neurologist who diagnosed trigeminal neuralgia and prescribed anti-seizure and anti-depressant. Had MRI and EEG. Tests showed nothing. So now I am not sure what to do, I am 23 and can't live the rest of my life like this. The pain wakes me up at night and I have very bad head aches. What is the next step to take? Any similar stories?
Avatar n tn Clinical differential diagnosis includes, but not limited to, atypical odontalgia, neurovascualr orofacial pain, and trigeminal neuralgia.

Avatar n tn hi again....I looked this up on MAYOCLINIC.COM its referred to as TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA....it follows the branches of the trigeminal nerve...look at the site for more info.
Avatar n tn , She flew on a plane a few days later and thought her tooth would explode Pain continued in the tooth with the root canal, was sensitive to heat and cold, and I put ambsol on that tooth only with a q-tip, she felt the liquid on the tooth with the root canal and it was painful, a few weeks later and another root canal, then a crown and two bite gurards in 2 months and still the pain continued -- pain is located on left side of face lower jaw (where the root canals were) later after trips t
Avatar f tn Thanks for your reply. So you don't think this Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN). My lower back teeth are still hurting and my jaw is really tender, feels like it could be bruised but isn't. I take Allegra everyday for my allergies/sinuses. I just don't know anymore, I have so many health concerns going on. 7 years is to long.
1175164 tn?1274116632 I have had Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia for almost four years. I also have Anesthesia Dolorosa. I was wondering what everyone's triggers are. I seem to have some that are not "textbook" like you read everywhere. For instance, I find that if I am anywhere with a lot of noise or external stimulation, I get triggered. Please share what you experience. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Trigeminal neuralgia is nearly always unilateral. In rare cases of bilateral trigeminal neuralgia, individual attacks are usually unilateral, with distinct episodes involving each side of the face at separate times. A change in the location, severity, or quality of the pain should be an alert to the possibility of an alternative diagnosis. Symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia is usually caused by multiple sclerosis or by tumours arising near the trigeminal nerve root.
Avatar n tn Sharp pain in the side of face could be due to injury to a nerve or pinched nerve, an infection or a trauma. Hence it could be Trigeminal neuralgia, abscess in tooth, exposed root canal, internal ear infection, maxillary sinusitis, TMJ, migraine, herpes (recurrent) without rash or fibromyalgia localized to face. Since you have difficulty opening the mouth dental cause and TMJ should be ruled out first by a dentist. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
Avatar f tn Was also told I have trigeminal neuralgia. I am starting to wonder if my face pain is related to my migraines and not TN.
Avatar f tn Hello unnerved, Trigeminal nerve which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause trigeminal neuralgia is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek.
Avatar n tn Hi, The common causes of shooting pains on right side of head are trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, tension headaches etc.In trigeminal neuralgia there are successive bouts of face pain. This pain occurs when a blood vessel compresses the trigeminal nerve as it leaves the brain stem. Temporal arteritis is caused due to inflammation of medium and large sized arteries bringing blood to the head.
Avatar m tn Hi Lulu, Yes, I've been MIA for mostly good reasons. Sept/Oct is also a terribly busy time at my job, so that has something to do with it...but the symptoms have improved tremendously. I haven't stopped taking Wellbutrin, nor do I plan to in the immediate future. I also have mood/emotional problems that my psych medications do help with. How have you been? And Dagun...thank you, too. I've read about trigeminal neuralgia, as well.
Avatar f tn Hi all, small question for you, i had no symptoms for 5 months, which was wonderful, and then i got this urinary infection , and the next thing i knew i had severe face pain, particularly in my nose, where it feels lie i have been bashed in the face with a pan, i have buzzing in my ears, and just a general tightness in my neck and shoulders, i got my eyebrows tattooed also, could this have caused trigeminal neuralgia ? or would it have been the infection, ?
