Hi everybody,
Would anyone be so kind to share his/her knowledge on how the side effects of topical corticosteroids, namely that of swelling/edema in subcutaneous tissue, as well as dilation of superficial blood vessels(capillaries), develop. I have developed these side effects from usage of two different corticosteroids for different skin problems.
What does skin atrophy look like? I used a steroid cream Triamcinolone on my face months back. I used it periodically over the course of 3 to 4 months. Now my facial skin looks almost scarred. I can't quite tell if it is permanent scarring or atrophy. Can a steroid cream produce scarring? Is this reversible? How long does it usually take to reverse?
I went to the doctor and he said it is irritated and gave me Triamcinolone Acetonide Topical. Its a steroid and antifungal cream. Hasnt been so effective though.
I also used Aldara on the same spot but that was over 2 months ago.
The current symptoms have been present for almost 2 weeks now.

Triamcinolone is a high potency steroid and is not without side effects. Regarding the fungal infection, wash the area and then dry thoroughly by pat drying, not rubbing. It is important that the skin is not damp because the damp skin is an ideal site for fungi to multiply. Also wear cotton underwears and change them twice a day.
Also apply topical antifungals like Lamisil or Monistat. Severe cases may need oral antifungals for which I suggest you to consult a dermatologist.
t comment on the herb or the Triamcinolone but like all steroids there are many side effects....do speak with your Vet and tell them whats happening.
Atopica(cyclosporine) is prescribed OFF label for cats...usually to treat Feline Granuloma Comlpex. the side effects are less than that of steroids.esp for long term use. .

If you just want something to add some color, you could try self tanning lotions. But, if it were my child I might take him to another dermatologist for a second opinion. If you are still in the military, I know how difficult "on post or Tri-care" providers can be sometimes. Just be persistent and make demands not requests, it is their job to care of you properly!

However, my eye pressure went up to 36 and my eyelid started to droop and it took several months before these side effects resolved. Now my CME has recurred. I am seeing a retina specialist who is very conservative in using steroids. I have had 4 intravitreal Avastin injections since April with absolutely no improvement. I'm beginning to worry about permanent consequences from CME lasting as long as 4 months.

Showering or bathing daily, keeping the groin area dry, using powder around the groin area to prevent excess moisture, avoiding tight fitting clothes and changing underwear at least once a day may help.
The immunosuppressant Tacrolimus or pimecrolimus can be used as a topical preparation in the treatment of severe atopic dermatitis instead of traditional steroid creams. However, there can be unpleasant side effects in some patients such as intense stinging or burning.

Triamcolone acetonide is a more potent type of triamcinolone, being about 8 times as effective as prednisone.It should not be used to treat fungal infections without consulting a dermatologist.
am a dark skin person, i have keloid scar on my face by the side-burn, i don't know if applying triamcinolone injection to the affected area is advisable. thank u!
Along with topical steroids, you should use good quality moisturizers on the area. Immunomodulators like tacrolimus and Pimecrolimus are not without side effects and should be used after a dermatologist’s prescription.
If the eczema is more severe, phototherapy (a type of treatment that uses light therapy) or systemic (circulates throughout the body) medication like oral steroids may need to be prescribed.

Please help, Doctor. Chemistry and Biology are really complicated. By the way, apart from HIV Test, I have did other STD Tests too like VDRL, Gonorrhea and Chlamydia. All negatives. I do not have any symptoms of STD.

Burning and itching are very common side effects. Hence your daughter must have screamed. For fungal infections this cream is available with nystatin in it. However please consult your daughter’s pediatrician or skin specialist before starting any medicine.
