I cannot confirm anything witout examination but since the rash is in one dermatome,the first possibility is of shingles. Shingles is caused by the reactivation of the chicken pox virus and attack a particular nerve branch in your spine. They always affect only one side of the body (left or right) and never cross the midline. It may thus appear as a band around one side of the chest or abdomen, or down an arm or leg.
I just remember vaguely that nerves are where the shingles are, and it can goof them up. If your shingles goes away and you've tried various means of getting your digestion going, but it's still a problem, I agree with the poster Mammo about going to the ER, or go to a Gastoenterologist, or possibly even a Neurologist if it comes down to nobody having any answers, in case that paralysis thing with the shingles would affect your digestion.

Needless to say now it is 3 1/2 months and I have been through Nystatin, econazole, triamcinolone, cutivate, biafine, Valtrex (7 days in middle December for Shingles) and Elidel and none seem to make it resolve. It has gotten better and seems to do better when nothing is on it than when we try to treat it. It seemed to be doing fairly well. This past Saturday, I barely noticed it, but the last 48 hours I am feeling it more again though not as intense as at first.
Iam so tired of a rash that keeps coming up, it will clear up then a few days later come back.. My dr has put me on triamcinolone 1% cream. Iam a very clean person and this rash keeps showing up under my armpit and right below.. any suggestion. While i use the cream it will clear up then come back if i stop.. Iam so discourage from this. Any advice might help...
I started putting a steroidal cream, Triamcinolone Acetonide on my neck immediately and it helped. When the rash developed on my bellybutton I scheduled an appointment with my allergy/immunologist doctor. It was a Friday, so I had to wait until Monday. Over the weekend, the belly area got worse and blistered badly. When I went to my doctor, he wasn't sure what it was (shingles, herpes simplex or herpes genital). He prescribed Zovirax cream and ran a blood test.
Unfortunately it would recur within about a month. Visited derm dr. recently and he diagnosed as herpes. I have not used the cream and have had a lot of pain and outbreak in the same 2 sites. Slow to heal and feels like I have been kicked in the crotch, sore nerve pain.
I understand from what I have read that Triamcinolone cream is not to be used on genital herpes. However if the experience I have had without the cream is terrible.
How were you diagnosed as having shingles? Shingles very rarely reoccurs. I'd be questioning the diagnosis of shingles at this point if I were you.
I recently had an outbreak and my doctor tested for herpes by swabbing and blood test. The swab was positive and the blood test came negative. I was retested for shingles and herpes my results stated the following.
Varicella Zoster V Ab, IGG 3.66
Varcicella-Zoster AB, IGM 1.23
Herpes Simples Virus I/II IGG - 8.6
HSV, IGM I/II Comination 3.27
HSV Type 2 Specific Ab, IGG - 7
The first out break was on my right side on the gential area. I also develoed three blisters on my right foot.

Shingles is an infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which is the virus that causes chickenpox. Shingles occurs in people who have had chickenpox and represents a reactivation of the dormant varicella-zoster virus. If you do cunnilingus, then you may not get shingles but if you have not had chicken pox then it can be transmitted.

The emergency room told him he had Shingles and gave him medicine to get rid of it. But...It keeps coming back. The only time it comes back in when my daughter drinks a certain kind of alcohol and the kiss. The next day, the shingles are back in full force and sometimes even worse. Can my daughter drinking this be an allergic reaction to my son-in-law to make the shingles to this??
Today the rash is worse and now there is some on my tummy. I phoned the clinic and the nurse said it sounded like shingles. Has anyone else had a rash with a miscarriage? I guess it could be co-incidence or one has caused the other or something. At least that explains the weird pain which I thought was a very odd pain for a miscarriage.
I'm not sure if we will try again as I'm 41 and it seems all very hard to think about going through this all again.
The herpes virus which causes both chicken pox and shingles is not normally harmful to healthy adults and children but can be very bad for an unborn fetus and pregnant woman whose immune system is already lowered due to the pregnancy. It can cause intrauterine death, malformations and be transmitted to the unborn child so it would be best to wait until your wife is better.
Got diagnosed with shingles (swab test) on my chest,neck and shoulder area a couple of weeks ago. Major stress and tons of hours at work seems to be the cause. Noticed a single red pimple like blister on my pelvis just below my navel in an area with body hair right before the breakout. Eventually popped it. Pus and blood release. It is now fading away.

I looked online and it said HIV can cause shingles.
I was tested for HIV at 5 weeks with unigold, 6 weeks with oraquick mouth swab, 8 weeks with mouth swab again, and 11 weeks with another unigold test.

After a time I found an itchy area bellow the scrotum, when I use a cream the issue seems to be fixed for maybe weeks, in some weeks ago another similar area appeared below the head and also on top of the head.
