fibromyalgia

Avatar n tn One reason many conventional doctors do not think fibromyalgia is a “real” condition is that no specific medication is effective for treating this illness. Some medications do help lower the symptoms of fibromyalgia. These include analgesics such as Tylenol and Motrin. Some doctors will prescribe antidepressant medications, although there are many adverse effects. Anti-seizure drugs are the conventional treatment for fibromyalgia. These include Neurontin and Lyrica.
Avatar n tn Other than depression, Cymbalta is more used in treating Fibromyalgia or Diabetic Neuropothy pain. It is not so widely used in chronic pain such as yours. The host of side effects it comes with is also a concern to me..Some of which include suicidal tendencys. Be sure to read your medication guide and I would discuss the headaches and ringing of the ears right after the Holiday. Med Help offers a forum by the name of "Ask the Pharmacist", this might be of some help to you also.
Avatar n tn Hi Mike Sorry to hear about your cancer. That explains it though why your doctor is treating you with pain medication. Because you have cancer and it is a proven fact that cancer causes great pain. I on the other hand suffer from chronic back pain due to three herniated discs in my lower back and they come up with this theory that alot of people have dics out and suffer from no pain at all. They also think it is easy to fake pain when you have back problems.
Avatar m tn Wow - 2-4 weeks? There is no possible way I could feel like this Elavil is making me feel for 2-4 weeks. I am "outa my mind." Not to mention, its making my pain even worse. I think I could suffer on a medication for a month if I knew it was going to lessen my pain. Nothing lessens it though, it only makes it worse. In regards to flexeril, soma, or klonopin, no I have not tried these as I only am taking what my doctor has prescribed me.
147426 tn?1317269232 People have a right to palliative care, be it from regular pain or neuropathic pain. Treating nerve pain and paresthesias is something of a guessing game. It is hard to predict what patients will respond how to each med. It is a system of trial and error. Typically they start with the "tried and true" meds and work from there. It is well known that traditional pain relievers like acetaminophen and ibuprofen are next to useless. Even the narcotics are pretty ineffective.
Avatar n tn I have severe tenderness in the back of my neck, shoulders and in between my shoulder blades.Nausea, vomiting and stomach pain. Since giving birth all of these things have increased as well as back and hip pain. I'm concerned because I'm 5 weeks post pregnancy and it doesn't seem to be getting better for me. I suffered from a considerable amount of depression for a number of years which the doctors seemed to always blame for these issues.

Is there a better doctor to go to for this?? I am currently seeing a knee surgeon and pain doctor as well as my general doctor with no real solution or help.

Avatar f tn Many of those already suffering from the pain of fibromyalgia also suffer from myofascial pain syndrome. Myofascial pain syndrome is another form of chronic pain that can affect the entire body, particularly the face and jaw. Myofascial pain can add to the already annoying symptoms of fibromyalgia, and can contribute to disability and a poor quality of life if not diagnosed properly. I have had fibro for years and most likely also have MPS as well although not diagnosed.
Avatar f tn Hi, 1tiredchic. So sorry you have fibromyalgia and also that you lost your job. I want to comment especially on one thing that you said, which is that a bunch of other things were ruled out before you were diagnosed with fibromyalgia. What I want to mention is that I have read many articles that say that people with fibromyalgia very often also have low thyroid and cortisol levels. I was terribly sick in 2009 and thought it was just a long, bad flare of fibromyalgia, but finally this year a dr.
Avatar m tn Even just walking down the street can seem like a feat at times. • Muscle and joint pain. My muscles and joints are soar all the time. It feels as though I have arthritis although I have been tested for it and do not have it. My neck is probably my largest complaint as it is so soar that I have a constant headache. If I do anything even slightly physical I will be even more sick and soar the following day.

Avatar f tn Before my illness I was a busy and active person, always wary about taking medication at all. Now I´m dependant on all this pain medication, and still I´m in so much pain that I´m unable to manage simple daily activities. Have had to stop working, need help to almost everything, and need a wheelchair to get around outside my home. My doctor suggests that I try Norspan/Transtec plasters, does anyone have experience using that for Fib/CFS?
1852058 tn?1320162300 Yeah, what Tuckamore said about treating Fibromyalgia pain and how we all respond differently is definitely the way it is. I keep noticing this one thing that is always consistent about treating Fibromyalgia. It's definitely true about how we all respond differently to the pain treatment. It seems like the only thing we can do is to keep making suggestions to each other about what works for us individually and to keep supporting each other.
401095 tn?1351395370 This association led to the discovery of the link between low serotonin levels and fibromyalgia, as well as to the use of 5-HTP in the treatment of fibromyalgia. Several clinical studies confirm the usefulness of 5-HTP in treating fibromyalgia. In one double-blind study, fifty patients with fibromyalgia were given either 5-HTP (100 mg) or a placebo three times per day. The group that received the 5-HTP experienced significant improvements in their symptoms.
880900 tn?1467273741 On the second day after stopping the Oxy, I was screaming in pain! It was pain that I had never felt before; pain that was completely unlike any that I had experienced from my RA or FM symptoms. It was at that point that I realized I was physically addicted to the stuff. Three months ago, I moved to Mexico to retire. Befoe I left Canada, I was given a 3-month prescription for 20mg of Oxy to be taken 3 times a day.
Avatar n tn They are both used to treat nerve pain (neuropathic pain), but gabapentin can be useful in treating other pain syndromes, like the pain of peripheral neuropathy, or the pain of fibromyalgia. The only way to know if this medication will help is to try it, but I repeat, it is not used to substitute for opiate treatment, so you will most likely continue your morphine and oxycodone while trying it. Pain management, like football, is a game of inches.
692643 tn?1372614827 In fibromyalgia medicines should always be used along with exercise and behavior therapy. Medications like Duloxetione, pregabalin and Milnacipram have been approved for treating fibromyalgia. See a psychologist for conselling. It will be best to discuss it with your doctor about which medication will be most suitable for you. Do keep us posted. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn They may be able to either increase your dose of your current med, or perhaps change it to something else - or even add something to your medication regime. Treating fibro symptoms is a lot of trial and error, so try not to get discouraged. It can be quite frustrating at times, for sure. Also, what works for one person may or may not work for another who is having the exact same symptoms.
20003388 tn?1515169640 What does anything else matter? It helps one decide when the risk of taking a medication -- any medication -- is worth it or not. If you just look at the science, it looks like a miracle, but in practice, it isn't -- it's an improvement over what we had before medication, maybe. As for the the theory of depression, the main area of current study is glutamate receptors, not dopamine or serotonin which are yesterday's news.
