Avatar f tn I found this on Wiki and it does say it is and opiod and also says this - Tramadol is associated with the development of physical dependence and a severe withdrawal syndrome.[59] Tramadol causes typical opiate-like withdrawal symptoms as well as atypical withdrawal symptoms including seizures. The atypical withdrawal symptoms are probably related to tramadol's effect on serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake.
Avatar m tn when you were on your full high dose of tramadol, you were taking your zoloft regularly? that is when the seratonin syndrome could have happened...when you were on high doses of both drugs at the same time...but since you are tapering down the tramadol, i would think your chances of SS would decrease greatly and that you wouold need your zoloft now more than ever to avoid a severe depression crash?
1810386 tn?1405549577 Yes I was warned about that too - something called serotonin syndrome that can come from taking an AD with tramadol. Most Dr.'s would caution or advise against it. And tapering is supposed to be the better way to go - I didn't taper but only because I didn't know any of that when I quit.

Avatar f tn I read in one of the threads that you can't mix tramadol and antidepressants. Is this true? What are the risks? My Dr. has me on both - I am trying to very slowly cut back on the Tram. I pill every week. I know it is painfully slow - but it is all I am able to do right now. I am working on alternative pain management methods, and getting the courage up to dump the pills once and for all.
Avatar n tn Finally was able to take the medicine and all of the withdrawal symptoms disappeared! So from my experience, Morphine withdrawal was way worse than the Tramadol withdrawal. Unfortunately, many doctors prescribe this medication and say it is not addicting and you can't get dependant on it.
Avatar n tn [28] Tramadol causes serious or fatal[citation needed] side-effects in a newborn, including neonatal withdrawal syndrome, if the mother uses the medication during pregnancy or labor. Use of tramadol by nursing mothers is not recommended by the manufacturer because the drug passes into breast milk.[28] However, the absolute dose excreted in milk is quite low, and tramadol is generally considered to be acceptable for use in breastfeeding mothers.
Avatar m tn What is happening to you is a daily withdrawal from tramadol. Even though Tramadol is not considered a true narcotic medication and is relatively easily prescribed for pain by some physicians, it is as you have found out quite addictive and difficult to quit. As you already know, it usually takes several weeks of the really nasty symptoms of acute withdrawal, followed by several months of just insomnia and general weakness and depression.
Avatar f tn this last time I quit I went on ssri first while still on tramadol...I know everyone talks about the serotonin syndrome and to make matters worse I got migraines and took relpax which can increase serotonin too...but whether I was lucky or not I never had an issue with serotonin syndrome and I felt like maybe the ssri I was taking helped when I stopped the tramadol....withdrawal still was awful but maybe I felt a little stronger this time...idk...
Avatar f tn In most cases, tramadol withdrawal will set in 12–20 hours after the last dose, but this can vary. Tramadol withdrawal lasts longer than that of other opioids; seven days or more of acute withdrawal symptoms can occur as opposed to typically three or four days for other codeine analogues. --Rarely, dependence may occur after as little as three months of use at the maximum dose—generally depicted at 400 mg per day.

5639849 tn?1372346883 The worst part for me is the PAWS (post acute withdrawal syndrome) which is what happens once the worst of the acute withdrawal sickness is over. I've read a number of articles and medical reviews on this and much of it can be attributed to the 9 or so chemicals this drug interacts with in the brain. It's much more complex then medical professionals originally thought but the human body/brain is a remarkable machine and it will fix the damage these drugs have caused.

Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear about your medical problems. Yes, tramadol withdrawal can trigger upper respiratory symptoms along with abnormal sensations (cold feeling) and body pain. Also, it is not a good idea to smoke at this time. You need to consult a doctor to manage the withdrawal symptoms with medications. Also, you do appear to have water retention which needs to be looked at. Take care!
Avatar m tn Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Do not stop using tramadol suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, sweating, nausea, diarrhea, tremors, chills, hallucinations, trouble sleeping, or breathing problems. Avatar f tn You should definitely be tapering the pills to minimize the symptoms of withdrawal. The withdrawal from it is essentially the same as the one for the opiates and usually takes several weeks of the really nasty symptoms followed by several more of just insomnia and general weakness and depression. Switching to methadone would not be a good idea, because than you will have withdrawals from that.
8265858 tn?1403378544 ve been drinking lots of water, eating pretty healthy, taking a multi vitamin. I am also starting my day with one tramadol 50mg. I only use them when needed during the day and I take three .5mg ativan to help me sleep at night. I've been doing pretty good so far. Just mild depression, fatigue, goose bumps, chills, nauseous and loss of appetite. So I'm wondering if once I am off the tramadol and ativan will the withdrawals go full blown?
Avatar m tn com since we often detox patients with tramadol addictions.I know that you already read my bog about tramadol as I have notice and responded to your comment to it. Once you get through the withdrawals, the only thing you should keep in mind is as people start to feel really good after a few months out; they forget how bad the withdrawal really was and think they can start using again. Just once or twice.... and they get caught up yet again.
