Common Questions and Answers about Tramadol vs hydrocodone pain

ultracet

Avatar f tn Vicodin is a higher pain killer than tramadol. Tramadol to me is no different to tylenol, then i have some friends that are addicted to it. I am coming off of vicodin and i dont sugest anyone take it for any periods of time. I dont know your story but if possible i would stray from vicodin. LIke i said i have used them both and vicodin gave the the pain relief and the "high" i was looking for tramadol didnt even touch the pain.
403399 tn?1201833095 The only reason why Tramadol (Ultracet, Ultram, etc.) is not considered a narcotic is because at the moment it is unscheduled in the USA and pretty much everywhere else. It is fairly new being researched and first put on the market in the 90's.
Avatar n tn Vicodin is stronger then Tramadol. I think if you get put on tramadol you will be in alot more pain. My father inlaw takes it and it does nothing for him. I took it and it did nothing for me. Vicodin on the other hand did help my pain alittle. I would try to talk him into not doing it, ask him what is the main reason for changing your meds. I hate to say it but if you get them changed like that you will be in alot more pain. This is just my option. Tramadol did nothing for me.
Avatar n tn The reason you're not feeling any better pain-wise is because tramadol is weak as pain medications go. It's not as strong as Vicodin. The reason you're not having any withdrawal symptoms from the Vicodin though is because the tramadol is still stimulating your MU receptors, which are the same receptors that the Vicodin attaches to, therefore as far as your body is concerned, you are still taking a narcotic. That's the problem with tramadol.
Avatar m tn yes i am on day three of detoxing from hydrocodone and am currently taking tramadol bout 150 mg a day and it seems to be helping im not really as sick and am pretty mobile i have also used prayer but was wondering if im going to be in the same boat when the tramadol runs out
Avatar n tn Can i mix tramadol 100mg with hydrocodone 10 mg? I can't get my pain under control and I can't even get out of bed. My husband works all the time and I have a 4 year old son to take care of. This is the 6th day that i haven't gotten out of bed. Someone please help with some advice on mixing tramadol and hydrocodone. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Your body gets use to the Tramadol. And Tramadol works pretty good for pain, especially when you dose every day for years. Your body becomes saturated in Tramadol. When you quit, you have more pain because the Tramadol is leaving the system and not working as well and your body is damaged and can't produce the natural chemicals in the brain, that makes pain tolerable. So the pain can be very acute.
Avatar m tn I have been off of it for about 6 months and now the Dr put me on Tramadol for more pain and he chose that because I told him of the issues I had coming off of hydrocodene. Im taking 50mg three times a day. How long can I take it without having the withdrawal symptons? ALso has anyone experienced any kind of rash while taking it? I dont know if this is coincidental or not but after 4 days of taking it I got a red rash like that is red and then scabs over when I scratch it.
Avatar f tn After I posted the above plea, I was shaking and hurting so badly that I called my daughter. Except for the tramadol, I had 6 or 7 hydrocodone pills left. She said, Mom, you’ve got to taper off. Take one now, and then call me in 30 minutes. I did, and it shocked me how quickly I felt better with the one pill (I normally took three). I spread the remaining pills over 3 or 4 days, then went to the Tramadol. I was not taking more than prescribed, but I was addicted.
Avatar n tn I dont think using 1 drug for getting off another is a good idea but has anyone ever tried using Tramadol to help get off Hydrocodone during withdrawal period? I stopped taking hydro's about 6-8 10/325mg a day and started taking some Tramadol and it seems to help with the withdrawals. I thought that it would ease the symptoms while the opiates get out of my system. Tramadol is not an opiate correct? I was gonna use for a few days and see what happens. Any ideas? THanks.
Avatar m tn Your prescribing physician should always taper-off any patient who needs or wants to stop taking Tramadol just like any pain medicine, esp. opioid pain meds such as Tramadol. But more important, Hydrocodone WD's(withdrawals) is much more difficult to endure than Tramadol's WD's BY FAR!!! In fact, all/most pro football players who get hurt w/minor injuries on the field are given Tramadol to ease the pain so they may continue to play the rest of the game.
413886 tn?1203607351 Because I know that for me oxycodone(my drug of choice) gives me a stronger buzz, longer pain relief, and worse withdrawls.. But, I know people that say the Hydrocodone does them better and makes their pain better than oxycodone. I even know a girl who prefers Darvon's(darvocet) over anything, and it is one of the weakest narcotics available.. So it really odes depend on how the drug affects the individual persons body. I also think this would apply to withdrawl as well.
Business man2 Hydrocodone can be combined with Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for pain. Both preparations have similar outcomes for pain relief.
1182411 tn?1265321044 Hey all... Well I've made it to day 13, absolutely zero vicodin / hydrocodone... BUT... I threw my back out pretty good last night and have been having horrendous pain. I went to the chiropractor today and got an adjustment and a few hours later it was worse! (The doc warned me of that, he say's it's pretty normal for that to happen.) I finally had to break down and take some Tramadol... I took 2 at about 2:00, 2 more at 6:00, and I took 2 more at 9:30.
699217 tn?1323438700 I wanted to know what the difference is between hydrocodone and like-oxycontin or oxycodone, Percocet, tramadol, is this all just types of hydrocodone? All I ever took was hydrocodone....
Avatar m tn I have no idea about robaxin - but my guess is that any drug after 5 years is not going to work as intended. I've seen many people here have the same experience that I've had though - that after coming off the pills, your pain isn't nearly as bad as it is ON the pills. I really think because your body craves the opiates, it creates more pain - and creates a vicious circle. I have severe disc degenerative disease - 4 of my discs are pretty much non-exisistant.
Avatar f tn Before going to pm Drs i was being treated by my GP for 10 yrs of my pain managment. I was on tramadol short acting and hydrocodone. I alternated them through out the day. Wel my PM DR wont keep me on two short trem pain meds. I dont think the tramadol er is as effective as the regular. So I'm looking to talk to my PM Dr about next step up. Im not comfortable with fentanyl cuz its so strong and have to bite the bullet and so a med switch to something diffrent for a med break.
Avatar n tn TRAMADOL IS VERY VERY ADDICTIVE! I USED TO TAKE VICODIN THEN THEY CHANGED ME TO TRAMADOL AND I HAVE BEEN ADDICTED OVER 10 YRS NOW. TRAMADOL IS NOT A NARCOTIC SO IT IS PRESCRIBED LIKE CANDY BUT IT IS VERY ADDICTIVE! SAVE YOURSELF THE MISERY PLEASE! AND YES TRAMADOL GIVES YOU A HIGH JUST LIKE VICODIN BUT MUCH LONGER. BUT U WILL HAVE TO TAKE MUCH MORE TO KEEP GETTING HIGH WHICH IS DEADLY! JUST DO NOT TAKE IT!!!! DR's DO NOT KNOW IT ALL!
Avatar n tn Can I take Hydrocodone 10/325, Cyclobenzaprine 10mg, and Tramadol 50mg together safely?
Avatar f tn I am in the process of quitting Tramadol now! 13 Sep I was at 13 per day, and today was my first day at 6. It's taken over a month for me to drop 7 pills per day. And my withdrawals will be worse than any withdrawals anyone has ever had from hydrocodones ever, when I jump off 100%! That's guaranteed! Tramadol are very very dangerous! Just don't start!
464393 tn?1206755395 I definately feel hydrocodone is overall safer and more effective for pain relief then tramadol, yet not as sedating or addictive as percocet. Like I said, they still can be addictive, especially if taken in high doses so try to keep your dosing at 5 to 10 mgs if possible. I've found that taking 800 mgs of ibuprofin is a good secondary pain reliever for treating moderate pain and moderate severe pain.
Avatar f tn I've been taking hydrocodone/Lortab and tramadol for about 5-6 years, all doctor-prescribed for chronic pain. I've never taken more than prescribed over the life of each refill, although I sometimes take extra on worse days and less on others to make up for it. After doing some research about the w/d symptoms, I wonder how much of my chronic pain is due to fibromyalgia and psoriatic arthritis, and how much is due to w/d symptoms?
968560 tn?1307451498 Hi mpace6983, all I can say is I had the same problem with Tramadol and I also got insomnia from Tramadol and hydrocodone. So, I think you could try Valium but that is stronger I think. Maybe you have a cross reaction with another drug too? I know you will get a better answer on this site. Good luck and hope your pain gets better.
Avatar f tn I am guessing that your brother is taking tramadol regularly to control his pain and using the hydrocodone for break through pain. This is a very common practice. Trazodone is an antidepressant. It may also be used for relief of anxiety disorders (eg, sleeplessness, tension) and chronic pain. As you suggested it is probably prescribed to help him sleep. Again he is on a very low dose. The Amitriptyline, also a low dose is most probably being prescribed to aid in the pain control.
