tramadol vs darvocet

I have been on Darvocet (3 x day) for ten years. I have severe scoliosis, deteriorating disks and bone spurs in my neck. With Darvocet being withdrawn from the market, my doctor put me on Tramadol, 2 x day. Today is my first day on the new meds, I feel rather out of sorts but not too bad yet. Can't tell yet whether it's helping pain or not, since I always hurt. Has anyone else switched to Tramadol? With the Darvocet dose I've been on, can I expect severe withdrawal symptoms?

If i took i tramadol last night at 8:00, Is it safe to take a darvocet today at 3:00 ?

My friend and I were talking the other day and she said, "Oh, my mom said a lady at her prayer group said that there was "a new darvocet out on the market now." Of course I am more than curious since my mom just had to stop darvocet herself. My friend then tells me this "new darvocet" is called Ultracet! Can you believe this? I knew this was coming since darvocet was pulled by the FDA, now the drs. are going to start prescribing ultracet/ultram/tramadol alot more.

Ultram was bad news for me after Darvocet was taken off the market. It is not a narcotic pain reliever but if you take a SSRI antidepressant it can cause a horrible reaction called seratonin syndrome. Will our doctors and the powers that be ever smart up with what is being doled out and how much? With the age of computers and big Big Brother insurance companies watching every move it seems not.

I was currently prescribed darvocet for pain but it was taken off the market. Since I haven't had anything. My doc gave me tylenol 3 but it made me sick. He then prescribed tramadol but I didn't fill it after I've read about the terrible withdrawal symptoms. Is there anything else that isn't real strong or addicting that is similar to darvocet?

Find a new doctor. If you've been on 10mg Vicodin for 5 years, and your back pain is getting worse, for your doctor to switch you to Tramadol is a bit of a slap in the face. On the ladder of narcotic pain relievers, Tramadol isn't even on the first rung-it's a non-narcotic that "mimics" opioid effects. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being pure morphine and 1 being Darvocet, Tramadol isn't even a 0, it's a -1.

So, I have been around and around since I was 20 with these withdrawals. First let me say I have been on methadone and gone through those withdrawals. That's pure hell. Now I've been on Darvocet for 3 weeks to get off Tramadol. And I'm wondering, since they are structurally the same, are the Darvocet withdrawals the same as methadone? Can I plan on going through withdrawals for the next 7-9 weeks?

I used to take Darvocet. I can not take Tramadol because of other drugs I'm on for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Both Hydrocone/APAP and Percot/APAP work for me as good as Darvocet - better actually because Darvo gave me stomach problems.

well, Oxycodone is a more powerful narcorin painkiller in general.. But you have to rememebr that people react to different meds differently as well. Because I know that for me oxycodone(my drug of choice) gives me a stronger buzz, longer pain relief, and worse withdrawls.. But, I know people that say the Hydrocodone does them better and makes their pain better than oxycodone.

Am taking Lortab and Fentanyl 25 MCG/hr patch. I was also taking Darvocet. I have tried COD # 3 and Tramadol HCL 100 mg. What next? My pain comes from peripheral neuropathy, degenerative disc disease, fibromyalga, severe osteoporosis, limbs where metal has been needed to fix breaks, arthritis. From one to 10, I am a 10 and can only get down to a lowest of 5 now. That is not bearable. Has someone found a sub for D that helps?

I know Darvocet works for me, I just take too many sometimes. Plus, I rarely drink alcohol while on the Darvocet. If I do, I make sure the 6 hours or so has passed before I drink anything. I have heard that Darvocet has Tylenol in it which can be damaging to your liver. How much Darvocet and for how long do you have to take it before it hurts your liver? I appreciate any truthful info anyone can give me.

I keep reading on here that tramadol can be very addictive...she also has darvocet and when I told her about the dangers of tramdol, she started on the darvocet and states that neither of these drugs make her high...I have also taken both i the past for pain and no high but am scared to take them right now...It is like I feel my receptors will stay dirty! dumb but I only have 5 days to get ok and go back to work...Any input...has anyone used either of these to decrease WDs? I wanted to get off Tramadol so I quit taking it 4 days ago and am having horrible anxiety, insomnia and having a hard time forcing fluids. Although I'm a nurse, I want someone to take care of me now! I was taking two 50mg Tramadol three times a day for a year and a half. I am seeing my PCP this Tuesday and was wondering what I can ask her about helping me these horrible unrelenting anxiety attacks and what is there that I can take for this daily chr pain that is not addictive.

with the Lortab and Darvocet N100. It can be JUST as addicting as Lortab (tramadol works like an opiate and restricts the blood vessels in the brain that sensor pain like Lortab or Darvocet) the addiction usually starts because of the "high feeling" obtained from opiates. Do not think that just because it's not a controlled drug doesnt mean it isnt dangerous. (this is most definatly not me on a high horse.

My doctor has prescribed Darvocet for me as well as Tramadol to switch off and on for chronic pain from fibromyalgia since I cannot take aspirin, motrin or anything that could cause problems with the stomach lining, etc. So far, that has worked for me. I'm very careful because my drug of choice was Hydrocodone as well and the withdrawals were horrible. I never want to go through that again.

The only reason why Tramadol (Ultracet, Ultram, etc.) is not considered a narcotic is because at the moment it is unscheduled in the USA and pretty much everywhere else. It is fairly new being researched and first put on the market in the 90's.

Can anyone help? Can I get off Hydro's by taking Darvocet? If so, how many Darvocet's can I take, not to be sick?

yeah, sorrry. I am on Tramadol. I was prescribed it after being on Darvocet and then Vicodin for 20 years. I have tried to taper before, getting down to 2 -50mg pills a day. Then I was going to have sinus surgery and just decided to wait until after that. Now, I just found out I am not getting the surgery.

If you are hurting so badly and are taking Darvocet, you are already taking opiates how long have you been on the Darvocet? Our bodies get used to taking opiates and need more; do you think you are at that point or do you think its not strong enough because you smartly have been conserative?

In general, drugs such as Ultram (or tramadol) are not recommended during pregnancy or during breastfeeding because there is a lack of safety information. This does not mean that it will necessarily cause problems for the fetus or baby, but since the information is not known, it might. Animal studies have shown that the drug crosses to the developing fetus, but the danger to a developing human fetus is not known.

100mgs of darvocet is equivalent to 650mgs of aspirin, so that right there kind of gives you a clear image of how damn weak darvocet really is. its crazy that it i still around, let alone taken, and a scheduled drug.even tramadol and codeine, which are both very weak opiates are way stronger than darvon. For the fentanyl patches and the wds, I would taper down slowly then explain to the doctors whats going on and they will def.

I had an unusual reaction to Tramadol, too. Although, Tramadol worked for a little while. I took it for only a few months, then it started affecting my speech and I was no longer able to take it. I wonder what the "experts" think people with chronic pain should do when these are the only pain meds that touch their pain? I realize that there is prescription pain killer abuse by both doctors and patients, but what about the people who aren't misusing these pain meds?

I have had fibro for about 3 years now and had been managing the pain with medications (tramadol every day and with vicodin on worse days) they made it so I could still manage living. I am pregnant now and finally weaned off the tramadol and the drs I am seeing dont know what to do with me anymore. I can barely get out of bed anymore let alone make it through a work day.

This is a very poor choice because the withdraws of tramadol are often as long and as extreme as methadone. Vicodin, subutex, (or perhaps darvocet IF used less than 1 month) should be the drugs of choice for someone coming off methadone maintenance. IF you are looking to get off of tramadol you definately should not quit cold turkey. Weaning off is more acceptable but is still described as very unpleasant by many users.

I had never, and I mean NEVER experienced depression before, and I have a new understanding and sympathy for people who experience this terrible, debilitating problem!!! When darvocet was taken off the market and tramadol was prescribed to me, I almost felt like my old self! I wasn't totally delusional though. I new this feeling was a chemically enhanced one. Unfortunately, I liked it too much to share this with my doctor.
