Ibuprofen is not recommended for long term use for people with kidney or stomach problems. Tylenol should never exceed 3000mg a day and be avoided by people with severe liver problems. However flank pain can be caused from kidney stones, kidney infections, a kidney abscess or disease, arthritis of the spine, disc problems and as said earlier, muscle spasms. There are also other causes of flank pain...often other conditions can produce referred pain to the flank. Meaning the pain is actually being produced in one location but felt in another.
I would return to your PCP and investigate possible kidney issues....
I am afraid that it may be doing damage to my kidney. I recently had a terrible kidney infection having nothing to do with the pain meds....it was E.Colli. Now, I still have pain in my kidney, and i think it is getting worse again. My dctor doesnt think another infection could be possible because i was on a very high dose of antibiotics for two weeks. Can anyone give me some information on this topic? Anyone been through something similar?

You could also have muscle spasms that can cause your flanks to hurt. In your case you said you have had kidney problems not to long ago. I know with that in your mind every pain coming from around that area you may be scared is coming from your kidneys. If all the tests are coming back okay and you have exausted everything possible to make sure it is not your kidneys, the next logical thing to assume is that it is coming from somewhere else.
I had a blood test a urine screen and cat scan This was 12 hrs ago They said kidney function was a little low and dehydrated everything else was ok. I am scheduled for rotator cup surgery in two weeks and during my last surgeron visit I was prescribed TRAMADOL 50 MG for pain. I am now experiencing frequent ( at night about once per hour/during the day about once every 2 hours) urination. The urge to urinate requires immediate attention, and I have not had this problem in the past. I am 67 and my usual frequency at night was about two times per night. I dont seem to have any other symptoms such as pain urinating or blood in urine.

the extent of the damage to your liver/kidneys? Now I know its best not to take anything, but thats not an option for my right now. I take around 10 a day and have for many years. You find lots of info on the internet about tylenol and its effects but very little about tramadol. Any website that you know of that discusses the effects of tramadol on the bodies organs???
