You may want to ask for another test. A specialized one. Unfortunately, this can and does happen, false tests. It depends on how your body breaks down your meds and it also depends on what kind of test they're giving you.
I recommend you do some research in this and take. Print what you find and take it to your pain Dr.
Just recently moved to a new town and started seeing a pain management doctor the first month he gave me a urine test but wouldn't give me pain meds so I ask my regular doctor about it and she gave me Tramadol. The second month he didn't test me but he gave me a small script. It wasn't enough for my pain, so I've been supplementing the Tramadol. It's almost time for my third visit and I'm wondering if they're going to give me a urine test this time?
Thanks for the additional info LivingInHope. I appreciate it. I'll ask my doctor about the blood testing. The Tramadol actually helps my POTS. Without it I have a lot more tachy. It's a night and day difference. When I take Tramadol, my heart-rate goes down significantly. I also have pain issues from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and it helps my depression, so it's killing a lot of birds with one stone, so to speak. :P But yeah, a blood test may be a good idea, as you've suggested.
However it made no sense that it was released as a non-narcotic since it acts as an opiate. In the body, tramadol is converted in the liver to the active form of the opioid, called O-desmethyltramadol. Tramadol is a synthetic 4-phenyl-piperidine analogue of codeine. I don't do chemistry well - but basically it means that Tramadol is and always has been an opiate.
In Aug of 2014 the DEA- in all it's wisdom - rethought this drug and placed Tramadol in the Schedule IV category.
I've been prescribed oxycodone 10 mg for months. While I was taking it, I realized I was going to run out before I could get to the doctor for a refill and a drug test. I was at the ER two times in the last 4 days with flank pain around to the front near bottom of my rib cage, have spasms and bad back pain right side. I had a blood test a urine screen and cat scan This was 12 hrs ago They said kidney function was a little low and dehydrated everything else was ok. Tonight i have worse pain but now gurgling or bubbling in there and come an go pain in testicles and minor sharp pain in groin. IS THIS POSSIBLY A STONE?
Tramadol is not in the same class as anti inflammatories. I am too allergic to them but can take tramadol. I would try it and make sure someone is with you so if you do have a bad reaction they can take you to the ER.
Tramadol is a pain medication and it may help your pain. It is not a strong one but it will help better than nothing at all and if you go ahead and try it and it doesn't work you can tell the doctor this and get something different.
I see my pain Dr once a month and at each visit I roll dice, if I roll doubles I have to take a urine test. There was a month I rolled doubles, I took the test and the test came back negative for for anything. I was accused of the same thing, I do not know what happened but I have not stopped the Suboxone. I had to submit to a urine test every month for 6 months because of that one test.
Each individual dose can take approximately eight hours to go through the system. I'm not sure about how long after that that the residual takes to leave the body, but I do know that I'm allergic to this one myself. My own experience was that my entire body would itch during the entire eight hours that the drug was supposed to be active for pain. There were other nasty side effects, too, like bad nausea and extreme sedation.
Blood in the urine can be a nothing but also can be quite significant. The first thing that I do is ask my patients to repeat the urine sample a few times as "mid-stream" urinalyses. Most urine samples are provided as initial voided specimens, i.e., the individual just urinates into the cup from the outset of voiding. A mid-stream involves allowing the first portion of the stream (maybe a third of a cup or so) to go into the toilette, then collecting the sample.
I have had a pain in my lower abdomen since Friday, started on the left then moved over to the right.
