Avatar n tn My wife is 82 she has a heart condition also has osthperosis she takes two tramadol a day she has started feeling tired all the while and has to keep going to bed to lie down after just a little effort she has to retire she says she feels just ill. She has no signs of chest pain but feels exhausted. Do all elderly people feel like this is it because of her age Brian?
Avatar f tn Tramadol does indeed lower the seizure threshold. Withdrawal from tramadol can provoke seizures in people who do not have a seizure disorder, as is also the case with many anti-convulsants used off-label in pain management but FDA-approved for seizure control. My docs won't even consider tramadol or certain tricyclics for me since I have a history of seizures. However, in your case the benefit of pain relief might outweigh risk of seizure.

Avatar f tn She is very, very frail and has been in hospice care for 3 years. She has been on 150mg of Tramadol for over 8 years. She is suffering from severe myoclonus and seratonin toxicity and hospice wants to take her off Tramadol and replace it with something else. I can find no info at all on withdrawal and tapering protocol in elderly debilitated Alzheimer's patients. My mom can't speak or communicate and I am absolutely horrified at what she may experience.
Avatar n tn Tramadol works on our(humans) receptors just like narcotics do. For humans it is probably the worst drug to come off. In some countries Tramadol is now listed as a controlled substance. Seizures are a side effect. Just wanted to get that out here. I have no idea if it affects animals the same way, i hope not.
Avatar m tn Another thought- has he been eating solid foods or is he only taking in liquids? If he has only been taking in non-solid food, this could wind up causing bulk not to form in stools.
Avatar n tn Are the blood blisters in the arms and legs of some elderly a vitamin or mineral deficiency? If so, what will help? This discussion is related to blood blisters.
Avatar f tn These events can occur at any time during use and without warning symptoms. Therefore, TORADOL is CONTRAINDICATED in patients with active peptic ulcer disease, in patients with recent gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation, and in patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding. Elderly patients are at greater risk for serious gastrointestinal events (see WARNINGS).

Avatar f tn According to an article in the international journal Research on Aging in 2009, the elderly population in China will have tripled by 2050. Norway and China are in many ways extreme opposites when it comes to family policy. Under China's policy responsibility for the family rests entirely with families themselves. There are almost no institutions for the elderly, and few elderly people receive pensions.
Avatar n tn I am being met with resistance and am concerned that the attending physician is completely in the dark about several studies regarding the negative effects of these particular drugs in elderly patients with dementia, or any helpful alternatives. Are there any alternatives to using antipsychotic medications in this case? I have a hard time believing he is being kept in this state for other than that it makes him less work for the staff. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn My brother is on welfare and the doctors at the clinic have given him the following meds. Tramadol 50 mg, Trazadone 50mg,Amitriptyline 10mg, cyclobenzaprine 10mg, Hydrocodone/APAP 5mg/500mg. In addition he was also given medication for Diabetes Type II, metformin 850 mg, glipizide 5mg, lisinopril 5 mg, simvastatin 20mg, Asprin 81 mg, Ranitidine 150 mg. Additionally he was also prescribed Naproxen 500mg and Alumina Magnesia 360 ml. I think this is too much medication. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn No, I don't think so it is the symptom of end of life. I lived with my father in law who was 94 years old when he came in. He's healthy, only with asthma. He offered help me to sweep the floor/yard. Hanging and picking up the clothes. He also concentrated on the weather make sure he picked up the clothes before it rained. He'll miss if he slept all the day long! LOL. He liked sleep (usually longer hour than us).
Avatar f tn are hydrocodin, percocet, roxicodone and tramadol in the same ingredients family meaning if i took a vicodin i should be okay to take a roxicodone or tramadol because they have some of the same ingredients in them thanks for the time to whoever answers the post
15746739 tn?1442713123 You said what I meant. LOL! Sherry2469. I understand that you have tried the heat and NSAIDs for the "Crick" in your neck to no avail. If you are taking Tramadol now for CTS correction - it will not hurt to continue taking it. Obviously you should always consult your physician if the Crick continues. Never should you use a medication to mask symptoms (SX) - nor would I suggest that.
Avatar f tn I have tightness and a dull ache in both the lower parts of my arms and legs. This occurs usually towards the early morning hours while I'm sleeping. The pain wakes me us and I am unable to stay a sleep. Is this a sign of heart issues or perhaps a thyroid problem.

Avatar n tn My Mom is 92 years old. Has been living on her own in Elderly housing for 20 years. Her dementia consisted of repeating and repeating, forgetting who visited, etc. but went throughout her normal activities w/some services very well and very happiy. Always knew us but was starting to forget other people but after prompting she would be ok. 3 weeks ago she developed a very severe resistant UTI and then got c-dift (not sure how to spell that). Anyway ended up dilusional, confused, etc.
Avatar n tn I have heard that Suboxone could be used for pain in the elderly population to take the place of the many pain medications they may be on. such as morphine and Oxycodone Does anyone do this and how would I approach my Mother's Doctor about this. .
Avatar f tn The elderly generally take smaller doses because the liver metabolizes drugs more in the elderly. And any antidepressant can cause increased anxiety particularly in the beginning, but even later, as they can be stimulating.
611606 tn?1315517767 Hi, I am owned by a wonderful 15 year old Kitty. Smokie and I have been together since he was 5 weeks old. A year ago he started showing his age and seemed uncomfortable. I took him to the Vet, and was told that h was very geriatric, so of course I brought him back home, so relived I didn't have to put him to sleep. Now he is getting worse, his cries sound like he is in pain, he longer walks well. I don't want him to suffer, he has been such a huge part of my life.
