Common Questions and Answers about Tramadol in early pregnancy

Avatar f tn I'm not a medical professional, but I think the odds are that you'll be okay. From what I've read, it seems that the major risk with Tramadol in pregnancy is with long-term use at high dosages, which doesn't sound like it applies to you. Women do all kinds of things before they know they're pregnant and 95% of the time, everything turns out okay. I would, however, not take any more, and I would tell your doctor.
Avatar f tn In general, drugs such as Ultram (or tramadol) are not recommended during pregnancy or during breastfeeding because there is a lack of safety information. This does not mean that it will necessarily cause problems for the fetus or baby, but since the information is not known, it might. Animal studies have shown that the drug crosses to the developing fetus, but the danger to a developing human fetus is not known.
Avatar f tn It says tramadol is category C though. If you don't know what that means just type in goggle pregnancy category C.
471344 tn?1228755027 Tramadol (Ultram is the brand name) has very little data regarding usage during early pregnancy. Although animal models have shown some toxic effects, there is virtually no human data. The general class of pain medications that include tramadol do not have a high association with fetal defects. They can sometimes be associated with withdrawal symptoms in the newborn baby, although this is not common.
Avatar f tn I do not know about the effects of these meds used in early pregnancy; hopefully there will be some others along to give you more information on that. I do know that you should NOT just stop them suddenly if you have been using them regularly. Please call your doctor as soon as possible - you CAN get free of these!
Avatar f tn I have tightness and a dull ache in both the lower parts of my arms and legs. This occurs usually towards the early morning hours while I'm sleeping. The pain wakes me us and I am unable to stay a sleep. Is this a sign of heart issues or perhaps a thyroid problem.
Avatar n tn Labor and Delivery ULTRAM ER should not be used in pregnant women prior to or during labor unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Safe use in pregnancy has not been established. Chronic use during pregnancy may lead to physical dependence and post-partum withdrawal symptoms in the newborn (see DRUG ABUSE AND ADDICTION). Tramadol has been shown to cross the placenta. The mean ratio of serum tramadol in the umbilical veins compared to maternal veins was 0.
Avatar f tn That early in the pregnancy it is unlikely that there are any ill effects. The point is that you have been weaned off now (I am assuming under a Dr.'s care - you should never stop any medication cold turkey while pregnant without a Dr.'s approval or guidance). Please do talk to you Dr. as I have no doubt he or she can put your mind at rest. Chances are that baby is just fine. Congrats on your pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Gday is there anyone in Australia on these forums having trouble with tramadol...I am in Queensland..
Avatar f tn NO TRAMADOL!!! I had ankle surgery in the beginning of my pregnancy and was prescribed pain killers (vicodin and percocet) I was always more comfortable with the tramadol since it's non narcotic. I looked it up and it said it's absolutely not ok during pregnancy, however the narcotics were (also recommended by my dr) hope you feel better!
Avatar f tn Thank you! The tramadol was for headaches and a swollen knee. I took the pregnancy test yesterday. I'm not very pregnant at all. Had last period in beginning of February. I want to be completely off by 8 weeks, not 20. I tried cold turkey and it was too much. I mentally feel happy. Its just the physical pains..body, mouth, tummy, heart beat..I would never take methadone. I don't even know what that is. This tram was prescribed. I don't drink or anything but tramadol.
Avatar f tn I was wandering if there are people out there who have successfully weened themselves off of Tramadol? If so, could you tell me a little about your story and how you did it and any suggestions you might have? I am currently trying to ween off of tramadol because I found out that I am expecting. I'm only 6 weeks along. Avisg is trying to help me ween and I'm ever so grateful for that. Weening isn't easy and any advice or words of encouragement would be great right about now.
Avatar f tn being so early in pregnancy you COULD be at risk for a miscarriage because of the trauma that severe withdrawals can cause. Ok...now..if your OB doesn't know, make an appointment immediately (tell them it's an emergency and you can't wait until the normal 8 week appointment) and confess it all. tell them you want off, but you want to do it safely.
Avatar f tn Im 39 weeks pregnant, all day today ive been cramping (like menstrual cramps)and its been mild. Its been consistent... Not like contractions. Wednesday i went to the DR and i had a super high amount of protein in my urine & normal blood pressure. My.doc is concerned about preeclampsia. So i did a 24HR pee thing .. Which came back super elevated for protein. He told me to come back Monday to check my blood pressure. But today has been really painful with these cramps that havent went away.
544292 tn?1268882668 s not the most alarming part of Tramadol in my case. In my case the antidepressant that they tacked on to the cocktail is the thing that causes all the rough psychological and mental symptoms. It's a Two Fer One! I've been feeling like I was going crazy for a long time. And in addition to that; the scary suicidal ideation. The suicidal ideation vanished and returns ONLY if I get a flare up of withdrawal symptoms. That happens if I get over stressed. So i need some coping mechanisms.
Avatar f tn Gday is there anyone in Australia on these forums having trouble with tramadol...I am in Queensland..Thanks Anyone can join in any help is great thanks everbody.......
Avatar n tn Hi, I am running out of my percocet script early, is it ok to take tramadol in between to try and extend the few percocets I have? I cannot do withdrawel right now. I need something to stretch the Percocets out for about 5 days until my next script is ready. I use my meds for pain, but I ALWAYS run out about 4 days early. I am currently not using tramadol, but I have some, will they be an ok substitute for a week or so? Or will I still get W/D? Thank you, and God Bless Us all!
Avatar m tn I had never heard of Tramadol till I started reading these forums. I understand, in certain situations it can be addicting. But Most Dr.'s who prescribe it, do it becuse they belive it not addicting like a opiate based drug. I dont know if Tram is opaite based myself. I am currently in remission of abusing my oxy for chronic pain. I got into this bad habit of snorting them and taking too many and running out early of course. I started my recent refill off correctly this time.
621711 tn?1223570604 yeah i'm definataley thinking he needs to taper. his doctor knows he's in drug court, that info was pretty much given to every doctor around. he's scared and i'm scared for him, i know he'll start buying from the streets and then he'll start showing it in his urine test(i guess? does tramadol even show in a urine if its not and opiad?) but anyways, yeah, the first time he gets caught thats it, the pen for him.
Avatar f tn When I was in my early stages, I didn't believe I was pregnant. I had cramps just like my period, just a bit lighter. I ended up taking 5 tests and guilting my midwife into giving me an ultrasound because I didn't believe it!
Avatar f tn Does sex in early pregnancy cause bleeding and if so what color is the bleeding supposed to be and how long ?
