535089 tn?1400673519 Little advice tramadol in humans is very addictive. That's how my addiction started with pain meds so please do not say it's not addictive. Also live in my shoes as an addict then tell me addiction is better than pain. Yes for dogs it's great. My dachshund had been taking it for a yr now and has saved her. But please don't give uneducated advice on things you really don't know about.
Avatar m tn A Vet prescribed Deramaxx for my friend's dog, and ithe dog began having seizures within 24 hours- (never had seizures before). And then it was one problem after another. May have been coincidental, but my friend didn't think so. Maybe Metacam would be a safer alternative (?) There are over the counter (herbal/supplement) type painkillers available at pet stores or on-line, though I don't know if they'd work for the particular ailment your dog has.
Avatar n tn I know we had a Shepard and Husky mix on them for a few years before he died. Our vet recommended them as pain relievers. He had the dog on 8 pills a day, 4 in morning,4 at night. I know the amount startled me too but in dogs, thhey go by weight of the dog, different than people. Our dog had that hip displshia at 5yrs old and had bad joints since the operation. Our vet said safe for dogs. People, no. 8 is too much.
Avatar f tn Determining a dosage of tramadol for dogs is an exercise in futility. As with people, if the dog has a history of seizures it is important to let your vet know this, and they will likely tell you about alternatives. While the dosage amounts vary from dog to dog, the tramadol dosage for dogs can be put into effect by using the dog’s weight as the determinant. The usual range is .5 - 1.8mg per pound.
Avatar f tn What if I only use them until the hydrocodone is out of my system? I don't plan on taking them long term, I only have enough to last me about 5 days so I wouldn't be getting addicted to them. They do not give me a euphoric feeling and I have no issues taking them as prescribed. They just help subside the pain a little. I have a 2 year old so I have to be able to be functional enough to care for him. I'm also doing the Thomas recipe minus the large amount of bentos.
5986700 tn?1380791380 s prescribed pain meds....Tramadol..... Wtf, does addiction have a sense of humour? Rest assured, I did not take my doggies meds....I don't even want him taking them so two days was it, he's fine now. They sit downstairs on my counter, unmolested by sticky pawed spider. Sit there in a teeny bottle as a gigantic reminder that life is funny how tests come in all forms, making us have to make decisions, ugly ones that force us to question how low will we go? Peace out my angel peeps....
Avatar f tn t react any differently on a human than, say, a heavy dose of aspirin or Advil. A dog, though, never has cause to take anything for a headache and, unless the animal is severely lame, most of the sprains and strains they get are taken care of by the animal realizing its own limitations and curtailing its own activities until it feels better. So in a naive (meaning it has never taken a certain medication) dog, even a weak painkiller would probably work extremely well.
Avatar f tn I am looking for natural arthritis remedies for a 10 year old chihuahua. I read somewhere that blackstrap molasses works wonders for arthritis pain in dogs. I also heard of extra virgin coconut oil and apple cider vinegar. I am really tempted to mix all these and give it a try. Has anyone tried these? or are there any other natural remedies? My dog has been on metacam but it doesn't work very well, I can tell she is still in pain.
Avatar f tn t give up.....There are other choices for pain control......So your Vet sent you away without anything for your dog? I believe what your Vet is saying is no anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drugs like Rimadyl, Metacam, Previcox, etc. because of the way they are processed & possible side effects.....However, that does NOT mean that your dog cannot have just pain medication! My choice would be "Tramadol", but I'm sure there are others....
Avatar n tn My seniro 13.8 yrs old dog is on Carprofen for arthritis, tramadol for pain because bone spur is getting worse and locking up on him cause lots of pain laying and walking, and trazedone for anxiety and sleeping due to dementia getting worse.
Avatar m tn Speaking as a RN and a pain patient, it is most definitely the same pills for humans!
18777773 tn?1467834840 have been to vet daily and have a major concoction on drugs...rimadyal, tramadol, dog paracental and garen something! She is drinking more, but that probably the tablets? Brighter and so not ready to go......am begging for advice. vet appointment tomos to say goodbye, she is not ready!
Avatar m tn He should have never been sent home without any......You will need at least enough for a week.......Your dog should be on oral antibiotics for the abcess, also..........
1310633 tn?1430224091 So I almost killed my doberman a couple of weeks back. Went for a long bike-ride, and her arthritis flared up about 30 mins after our return home. Saw her with a slight limp, which I'd usually give a Tramadol for (Rx'd by her vet for just suck occasions). Couldn't find the bottle (just moved and haven't unpacked everything yet), so I figured I'd give her an Aleve® (Naproxen). DO NOT EVER, EVER, EVER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BE A DUMB@$$ LIKE ME AND GIVE YOUR DOG Aleve®.
Avatar m tn My dog is taking Gabapentin and Tramadol for an ACL injury. He will not eat anything at all and sleeps the majority of the time. He drinks some water from time to time and I've started giving him Pedialyte. I have tried hamburger, rice, chicken, turkey meatballs, McDonalds hamburgers, treats, ground beef.....all of his favorites and nothing. I can set the food next to him and I dont think he even smells it as he has no interest in it at all. Not sure what to do.
954920 tn?1254429338 I have finally realized that I have a problem... with Tramadol. And I am now realizing that I need help. I have been taking anywhere from 15-25 Tramadol a day, supplemented with 200mg of Benadryl at night to help me sleep. I know that I am poisoning my body, but I feel like I cannot function without the Tramadol. I want so badly to be able to stop taking it, but have read horror stories of the withdrawls, cravings, etc...
Avatar f tn Hi all, So I had tapered down on the tramadol I'd been taking (down to 1.5 pills BID), and was planning on tapering more as avisg helped me work out. Well, it turned out I need to have two teeth pulled (not fun), so because I failed at tapering in the past, I flushed all my tramadol down the toilet and survived my swollen mouth with vicodin I was given. Since i was only give 10, I figured it might help with wds and make my friggin mouth stop hurting.
Avatar n tn i have a dog who is on Tramadol 50 mg but i have a cat who sprained his paw can i give him one
176495 tn?1301280412 I took my last 1/2 Tramadol....haven't touched them since and won't..did a lot of tough yard work over the weekend (which 3 months ago I wouldn't have even started) and my back was killing me...my wife again offered me a perc "no and please don't ask again...I can call the pharmacy and get my tramadol refilled" "well, why don't you?" "I'm an addict, remember...
787406 tn?1339203183 My aussie started hiding today, which is what my boxer did the day he died,he is in so much pain that he groans all day,I tried Tramadol last night but had no effect on the pain. Can dogs take morphine when they have kidney failure?
Avatar m tn I would take the dog in to be examined. What you describe is not a side effect of gabapentin. They contraindicate its use in dogs that have kidney deficits, but the only side effects are vomiting, depression, excessive sleepiness and loss of balance. None of the other medications should cause otic issues either, especially since he's not new to taking them.
Avatar n tn We noticed a slow down a couple of months ago but the last 2 weeks my dog has had a lot of trouble walking. The vet tech noticed when he was in the kennel and alerted the vet. When we brought him home he was really bad but the vet thought it was maybe because he wasn't getting up enough in the Kennel. We put him on rimadyl and took him for lots of short walks. He seemed better and then after about a week he was having trouble with his front legs too.
Avatar m tn we have a 13 yr old blue tick hound that is not feeling good he hurt his leg a couple of months ago torn a c l and has been on tramadol and deramax for it but still having trouble getting around but now he is throwing up and wont eat or drink anything and has no energy we are at our wits end any suggestion
Avatar f tn Avisg can help you with a taper plan for tramadol. She has a purple flower by her name, just click onto it and send her a message. She may also have something in her journals about tapering. Tramadol was my DOC too. For over 3 years. I've been clean for over 200 some days. You can do this, you just have to want it. Get your life back! Check out the health pages here, its a huge help.
1325193 tn?1450127436 HI chad, I don't know much about the meds and how they make people act but I know how I can be. I tend to be an emotional eater. I don't necessarily eat because I'm hungry. I'll eat when I'm bored or ticked off. Sometimes I'll come home from work and just snack to "wind down." These are things I've had to become aware of and take a serious look at. For me I try to maintain a balance between mental, physical and spiritual health.
Avatar m tn But you should never give a dog a drug any more than you would a human before seeing a doc.
Avatar f tn Hi keetzy, I came off morphine 1 1/2 years ago and the withdrawal made me very sick for about 6 weeks. And I have also been on and off tramadol quite a few times. At the moment I'm taking aprox 200 mg of tramadol a day, along with Tylenol 3's. I didn't find tramadol addicting at all. I don't go into withdrawal if I miss a dose.
2121656 tn?1395674749 She seems to be walking ok, but once she lays down for a long period of time, she yelps when she tries to get up. She weighs 35lbs. and wondering what I can give her for pain. My lab takes tramadol for pain related to arthritis. Was wondering if anyone knows if one tramadol or a aspirin would be ok to give to her?
