535089 tn?1400673519 Since his visit, he has been medicated with the Thyroid meds and Rimadyl (anti-iflammatory). The Rimadyl is quite expensive and he does so well on it so when it was time for a re-fill I had asked the Vet if there was a less expensive ant-inflammatory he could take that was close to the Rimadyl. She said no. Instead she prescribed my Dog Tramadol along with the Rimadyl. She said that by giving him the Tramadol on a daily basis, he would only need 1/2 a tablet of the Rimadyl daily.
Avatar f tn She was also on Carprofen and Tramadol for arthritis and Denamarin (1 pill daily). Dr took her off Tramadol as her counts went up to alp 588 & alt 1000. She weighs 80lbs. Could I give her both the Denamarin and super milk thistle pills (maybe 1) since by weight she should be on 2 pills. Dr's don't seem to like going natural as it cuts into their profits.
Avatar n tn Hello & welcome....Rimadyl is rather on the low end of quality pain control......There are many newer and better drugs available, now....Tell your Vet you need better pain management with something else....You could also ask to add "Tramadol" to the Rimadyl as a combination therapy....The two together work much better..... Good for you to have a dog of 18yrs.....Sounds like you have done everything right! I'm impressed......
Avatar n tn Hi, I have an almost 14yo pit bull that is on both Metacam and Tramadol. rimadyl is an NSAID, similar to metacam and some others. Tramadol is opiate based but considered safe for dogs. My pit was on rimadyl for a year or so, then we switched to metacam which the vet said was a little stronger, then after about 2 years we added the tramadol. Just last week we upped the tramadol as dogs can develop a tolerance just like humans.
Avatar m tn Actually, tramadol (brand name is ultracet) and rimadyl are safe for dogs. I've had dogs on rimadyl for many years due to arthritis and they never had a problem with it. Tramadol was reserved for post-op pain treatment and only for a few days. Can you give us more information on exactly what kind of pain your chow chow has and any other meds that have been tried?
Avatar f tn Please try our safe, non-toxic pain reliever for dogs-CanineActiv. No side effects or drug interactions. MUCH safer than Rimadyl and usually as effective. Go to the CA website and contact us for free 28ct capsule travel pack. We also have a vet only product called Rejuvenate Plus, but you would need to get through your vet.
Avatar n tn Took her to the emergency vet and they prescribed Tramadol and Robaxin (pain and muscle relaxer). Took her to our normal vet on Monday and he said to continue those meds and also gave her a steroid shot. She did well throughout the week... still stiff but seemed to improve. Last night, Thursday, she seemed to be in pain again. She wasn't as bad as she had been on Saturday but was walking stiffly and holding her head oddly again.
1653057 tn?1302368323 We mentioned those symptoms to our vet and they prescribed rimadyl again. My dog took the medication for about 2-3 days, then had a seizure. We didn't give her anymore of the rimadyl and called our vet back. They said that seizures were not a side effect of rimadyl, and then prescribed deramaxx.
172023 tn?1334672284 He's on Rimadyl 125mg bid, and Tramadol 50mg bid for now. He doesn't always get these twice a day--it depends on how much pain he seems to be in.
Avatar f tn He was on a special diet from the vet JD dry food, Rimadyl, Tramadol and a special vitamin mixture for his arthritis and tumors (not cancerous but one on his hip that grew to the size of half a soccer ball), I spent over 250.00 a month for over 10 months for Jake's health and comfort. He was 10 when he had a stroke (I pray not caused by the rimadyl - reading the info on it does not make me happy).
Avatar f tn Labrador retrievers are one of the breeds that are known to have adverse reactions to rimadyl, and sometimes the benefits just do not outweigh the risks in something like this. What you CAN do is to start giving him a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement. These have been proven to be of great help to arthritic dogs with an occasional dose of enteric coated aspirin to help them over the rough spots. Please let us know what your vet says.
Avatar m tn OK what pain pills is he on? My vet prescribed Tramadol for pain (post-surgical) for my dog and they didn't seem to upset her tummy. If by chance it is Rimadyl, you need to get a second opinion, as Rimadyl can have very bad side effects. Nevertheless, I think you shouldn't be put in a position where you have to ask for help and advice from an internet forum. The vet should be giving more help here if you are so worried, and your dog is suffering.
Avatar m tn My Boston terrior jumped off the bed, and hurt himself. He was yelping when I got to him. He favored his left paw. I took him to the vet, and she put him on rimadyl for a week. It didn"t seem to help. I took him back and another vet checked him, and put him on robaxin, tramadol and prednisone. He isn't getting better, he is worse. He goes into a room and stares at the wall. He yelps every time he walks.
Avatar m tn Thank you he is on pain meds ...tramadol 50 mg, every 12 hrs, rimadyl 25 mg, every 8-10 hrs and amoxicillin 250 mg every 12 hrs They gave him the tramadol the second day I took him back and the other the first day . He still lays and cries... He did just jump off the sofa and ran to the door when someone just rang the doorbell so I guess he is able to walk but chooses not to . Keeping it clean with compresses and sitting with him like a new born .
Avatar f tn t really know how long ago it may have started) and he has tremendous arthritis of the back hips and 2 discs missing from his neck. I was told we can't put him on any anti-inflammatory drugs because of the Cushings. No rimadyl , etc. I asked how can I help to ease the pain. He is still so full of life ! I put an ice pack on his neck and hips for a few seconds until he walks away from me. I asked about acupuncture. I'll do anything to help my little boy.
Avatar f tn Carol...I agree, it's a tough call!!! One of the leaders on the forum "Jaybay" used it many years (I want to say 6-7) on a dog with hip problems...The only reason she stopped was she felt it quit working and then moved on to something else....Maybe she'll see this post and pop in with more info. for you.... My 2 Regular Vets prescribe it for everything and any length of time.....My Holistic Vet won't use it at all.....
Avatar n tn I was once given tramadol and cocodamol together in hospital, and take them together regularly now. However, the tramadol must NOT be the type which is combined with paracetamol, as then you would be overdosingon paracetamol. What you don't say is what strengths you are talking about. I take cocodamol 30mg two tablets, which is extremely strong. There are cocodamol mixtures with less codeine phosphate in them. Personally I take the strong version and add in one 50mg Tramadol.
Avatar n tn Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories such as Rimadyl or Previcox do help with joint pain and work to decrease inflammation which can further help to deteriorate joints. Other medications such as Tramadol work with NSAIDS to help make them even more effective. Nutraceuticals such as glucosamine (which she is already taking) and Omega 3 Fatty acids also help adjunctively.
Avatar n tn Taking methadone and Vicodin together or taking methadone and heroin together is not "fine". Not sure where you got that information or why you're asking?
Avatar f tn it is twice a day, i take for depression and hope to help on stop smoking and lossing weight and the Tramadol(not prescribed for me) 50mg taking for pain and hope weight loss. I do not even know if it is safe. buuuuuuuut anywaay. funny you are sunny66, I am mary66.......
Avatar n tn Shen Ling Bai Zhu San for fecal incontinence and You Gui Wan for urinary incontinence. These are available on line and can be used together. Begin with 1/2 the dose listed on the bottles and gradually increase over a week or so to the full amount. A human dose and frequency would be appropriate for a large breed dog. Since these are herbs they can be used with any other medications that she is currently taking.
